  • Do you need to have the foaming dispenser for the foaming refills or will they work with the normal liquid soap dispensers as well?

    • I used an ikea soap dispenser ( which not form type), it didn’t work.

      • Thanks. I assumed that would be the case. Looking at the palmolive foaming soap dispensers, they seem to be of a different shape, so Im assuming it pushes out the foaming liquid soap differently to the normal dispensers.

        • Yes foaming dispensers are different to ordinary handwash dispensers

      • Did it leave you… foaming… at the mouth instead? :P

    • -2

You need to mix it with water.

You'll needed a foaming dispenser, the foaming bottles have an extra contraption that introduces the air into the pump. Foaming refill can be used in regular dispenser, but it'll just be watery.

I advise against buying foaming refills, as it's just 1 part hand soap, 2 parts water. Literally paying for diluted product, which is worse value for money (more expensive???) and emission efficiency. I use diluted hand soap in an old foaming facial cleanser bottle.

      • i was trying to get the ratio right, is that 1:2?
have you tried this? I would think that some sort of sterile/distilled water would be needed because if you don't use the soap fast enough, there would be some nasty growth inside?

        • Usually 1:2 or 1:3 works for me.

Great point. Definitely could/recommend sterile water to mix. Admittedly, I only mix a small amount at a time and my household speeds through the soap so growth has been minimal to none.

        • +1

I usually use 1:4 ratio with warm water (seems to mix better than cold water). The soaps I've been buying seem quite thick so this seems to work well.

        • You can do 1:10 - that's what I do. And it never goes off in my experience - over the course of 3-6 months.

          • @naomieve: thanks, will try this ratio out, good to know about the time period too. my foam soap bottle runs out within a month so i shouldn't be too worried.

      • I did the dilution trick for a short time, thinking it was a great idea. But then I read it's not a good idea as you are changing the % balance of the ingredients formulated to clean, kill germs etc. The analogy given was baking a cake - you can't just add water to make 2 cakes. I can't prove this as I am not a chemist but went back to buying foaming soap to be on the safe side

        • i might be wrong but here's how i think of it, normal liquid soap is concentrate, and requires dilution before use, we do it manually by introducing it to our wet hands and or add tap water while the soap is in our hands to start the 'foaming' action (typically due to the SLS ingredient). what foam soap does is that there is an air agitation 'pump' built in that does it for you, by the time the soap leaves the bottle, it's in a foam bit.

so the tricky part in my mind, is the 2 factors I raised earlier, 1) ratio of water to soap - which i find that it's a tricky balance depending on ambient temp as well as brand of soap. thus i was asking what works for others, so i can try it out myself. 2) quality of water in the mix, because mould/bacteria growth will eventually happen if the water mix is not sterile enough.

it's also a time vs effort thing, how much are you going through that it's really worth doing this? I typically get the cheapest home brand liquid soap because having kids, it's a matter of time that they decide to just watch the bubbles go down the drain for minutes instead of washing their hands. :/

    • Yeh it won't foam without the foaming dispenser. It will just come out as liquid

    • Palmolive Liquid and water 1:1 with the Palmolive foaming bottle. It will work for you.

    • Soap is generally considered better than foam FYI, people get lazy with foam and don't apply mechanical action leaving hands less clean.

  • cheers just what I was looking for

  • +1

Saved me a trip to the supermarket, thanks.

  • how is the smell of white tea one?

    • white tea

    • Too strong for me. I didn't like it

  • OP how do you find similar deals on Amazon?

    • +2

      By visiting ozbargain

  • +1

These have been $3.35 with additional 10% off S&S before. So 50c/bottle more in the past, not just $9.95.

  • Cheers, missed this last time.

  • Does anyone have recommendations for a nice foaming soap dispenser? I have not been able to find a nice one

    • Just buy a small foaming hand wash from coles or wollies and once it’s depleted, mix the solution

I am cheap. So I use about 1:7
But we go through a bottle in about 2 weeks

    • I like the one I got from Muji.

  • cheaper at reject shop

    • I thought the reject shop was selling 500ml…?

  • What's the difference between this and body wash?

    • +1

body wash typically introduce oils back to avoid drying your skin out.
hand wash typically is functionally used to remove oils/grease from hands.

a closer match would be using dishwashing liquid as handwash.

  • +1

Getting closer, you can now get this with S&S. Down to $9.44, so just ~10c to cheapest price.

    • Thanks for the heads-up, bought another 2 lots.
