Thanks for the cheap and fat lunch.

    • +1

how many calories you ultimately retain as fat from the lunch is up to you….

  • +39

They are not Big Macs anymore. They are Small Macs.

    • +38

Maybe it is us who are big, and not the big macs that are small

    • +8

I've had people say that Big Macs have reduced in size in the past couple of years.

I think they have been the same size for the past decade or so. Would be good to confirm.

Maybe a Big Mac when you were 12 seemed big and over the years your stomach has increased but the size remains the same.

Anyway, I'm not usually a big eater (unless it's a 500 gram well marbled Rib Eye), but a small Big Mac meal is sufficient for me.

      • +4

Didn't they just shrink the bread, and keep the beef the same size?

        • +4

Yea the meat has always been the same size. Bread size has been reduced over time though

        • The beef is FLAT and dry and tiny. It doesn't even fill the bread diameter. All I could taste was the sauce and bread, so much bread. It is so tiny.

      • +6

I worked at Maccas in 2003 and the Big Mac burger bun was slightly smaller than a quarter pounder bun and slightly bigger than a cheeseburger bun. The cheeseburger bun has definitely shrunk in size (not by much, maybe 10-15%) and the Big Mac buns are about the same size as the cheeseburger bun now.

Big Mac buns are much smaller than the quarter pounder buns too now, those haven't shrunk (though I last had a quarter pounder in 2017ish, so maybe they've gotten smaller too now…)

        • OK… good to know… so it's true.

I wonder when the change(s) occurred.

Rarely have a quarter pounder so wouldn't really know the difference in size.

        • +2

just the bun? if it is then its fine, the bun size doesnt really matter

      • -2

They've always been the same size, we can't say the same for waistline of those complaining though I'm sure.

    • +3

They should rebrand it as the MiniMac

  • Not targeted right?

And you're associated Savas? Get a new job?

    • +1

Like the deal I posted, not targeted; new deal every week

    • +17

Only got the job last month. Working in McDonald's is fun !! I am applying for graduate jobs though…

      • +3

        !!

is the use/spacing of the !! in lieu of /s or is it actually legit fun working at maccas corporate? I always imagined super happy fun crazy slides that go from like top floor to ground floor for when you want a fun alternative for a lift.

        • +6

          No… i'm a crew member.. I studied civil engineering.

          • +4

            @Savas:

            i'm a crew member

Nothing wrong with that, in fact you're probably making more than I am and I can almost guarantee you have better benefits.

Whats your favourite go to off the menu? / Custom off-the-menu order hack?
I was reading about a custom order some people get where you get a normal big brekkie burger, add another slice of cheese, and add mccchicken sauce..and tbh that sounds awesome.

            • +4

@Jimothy Wongingtons: I used to work for Maccas for about a year and half before I got into the grad program in Canberra

Was a crew member too but mostly did night shifts until like 3am and yeh made my own custom burgers. Changed the sauces, put random patty combined etc

              • +5

@BargainsGrabber: im thinking breakfast tomorrow to try- hotcakes, add bacon, add sausage patties x 2, smother in syrup and butter oh boyyyyy

                • +3

@Jimothy Wongingtons: and that was the last time anyone heard from @Jimothy Wongingtons. After three weeks of custom burger making Jimothy exploded, rectum first.

            • +3

@Jimothy Wongingtons: When I worked at Maccas (twenty years ago) it was McChicken
              - McChicken sauce
              + Big Mac sauce
              + ketchup
              + cheese
              + tomato
Also nuggets wrapped in cheese slices and dipped in Big Mac sauce 👌🏻

            • +4

@Jimothy Wongingtons: I don’t have much experience but some custom orders I’ve seen are…

              • Double chicken Big Mac
              • Burger with only the bun
              • Large cup of pickles
      • What does maccas pay a newbie these days?

        • +5

I honestly don't do it for the money… i just checked my payslip and it days $29 per hour ?? Seems higher than i thought. that is for casual though.

          • @Savas: This is higher than I thought it would be. Grats on getting the job!

          • +5

@Savas: 29 is great imho… far out. Ask a pharmacist how much they get paid these days.

          • +4

@Savas: nothing wrong working at maccas. better to be working than sitting on computer playing games all day. grats on the job

            • +5

@edBARGAIN: It’s honestly always been my dream to work in McDonald’s.. I’ve learnt a lot about team work.

              • +2

@Savas: What's the best and worst role? Drive thru, front counter, grill, assembly ect?

You should do an AMA in the forums if you get the time

                • +7

@brandogs: drive thru is stressful because we have to serve at least 60% of cars within 120 - 180 seconds depending on time of day.. you don’t have time to double check everything is in the bag.. mainly shift managers bag the drive thru orders since they have experience and can yell at the back area what they need..

Burger assembly is relaxing because you’re just standing in the same spot.. but the other day there was only one person on back area so they had to do grill, fried products, cook eggs and assemble the food products…

All the stations are easy and fun .. the most difficult part is needing to memorise stuff.. like I might read 5 different drinks to make and then I forget which size cup etc…

          • @Savas: Are you a RAFFWU member?

          • @Savas: After 9 years banking.. a finance degree (with a law major) I’m a whopping $50/hr. Maybe I should have worked at hungry jacks. Wow $29 for Maccas is better than I thought.

  • +1

Thanks Savas! Lunch sorted for one of the days this week :)

    • +4

      1 day?

dont you have 5 burner accounts like every other true bargainer would have?

      • +1

Only have another account set up on another phone. Sadly I gotta hand in my Maccas OzB license

      • +1

The ones with the burner accounts get the best deals. 2 small big mac meals for $8 often comes up in the rotating offers ;)

        • +1

          Sumo life

  • +5

At least Big Macs have actual lettuce.

    • +6

The last big mac I have they were very generous with the lettuce. I enjoyed picking out the extra pieces of lettuce from the box after finishing the burger.

      • +5

The lettuce is worth more than the rest of the burger… welcome to 2022

  • +2

I always thought the OP was a Real Estate Agent from the profile pic! haha

    Anyway, thanks for the post.

    • +1

Some might consider McDonald's a real estate company, but that's just a theory…

  • +1

Between this and hungry jacks, we're gonna get fat this week / month

    • +1

Don't jinx it. KFC and Domino's incoming.

      • Pizza hut just landed.

  • -2

it should be called small mac now. the shrinking in size is pathetic

  • Awesome! Needed a quick option for this evening.

  • i have this and small double beef and Bacon meal at $5.95 in the app, which one is better?

    • +1

This because it’s got the cheeseburger too

    • +4

the small double beef and bacon deal is… small. More like a snack-size

      • +1

It's a basically a double cheeseburger with bacon

    • +1

The Big Mac and cheeseburger comes with 3x 10:1 beef patty total (2x 10:1 on the Big Mac and 1 on the cheeseburger)

Double beef and bacon only comes with 2x 10:1 beef patty and a bacon. Carbs and meat wise, you get more value on the Big Mac and Cheeseburger deal

Go with the deal that Savas posted

    • +1

I hate McDonalds but rating by scale, the bacon one I had several days ago was the best thing I've had there. It was about 25-30% better than their sloppy Big Mac. The bacon wasn't what I'd call crispy, it had no "snap" when biting into it, but was cooked until hard. It's not as good at the Hungry Jacks beef & bacon one (whatever that is called).

There's no order limit on the bacon one though. So you can buy it over and over (before 5pm) until the cows… uhm… don't come home because they've been minced for McDonalds.

  • +4

This might be targeted but do check your "Bonuses" section. I think you can stack this with 500 bonus points when you spend $5

    • Targeted, I got it on one.

    • mine didnt stack

  • +1

Thanks! I'm trying to restart low-carb/keto-ing this week but really wanted a cheap snack.
I ordered the burgers without buns, with salad instead of chips and coke no-sugar.
I mixed the bunless-burgers with the salad and had a somewhat tasty low-carb-ish cheap lunch.
    I would actually recommend this!

    • +3

      You're doing it wrong

      • +1

I did it wrong the last time these deals were on and had the full burger and chips multiple times and pit on 12kg in a couple of months!

    • +1

      What did I just read

    • Either eat rubbish and exercise or eat healthy. There’s no Keto or no keto. Energy is Energy. You either use it or keep it.

      • +2

I'm wary of health advice given in maccas bargains :D

        • Keto is a train of thought which is really helpful for people who can’t control their weight. The ideology is good. Cut out sugar. Eat meat and veggies. Hopefully lower overall carb count. Most people who are overweight usually are quite inactive but certainly eat more than they should given their activity levels.
Problem is, all these companies have now come up with “keto friendly” food. Like sugar free chocolate, sugar free sauces, sugar free flavoured drinks, sugar free cake… it’s crazy. They end up eating heaps of sugar replacement type energy and/or a lot of fat.. too much fat, and bad fats. So they still get the energy intake just not in carbs. Weight loss is minimal, if any, and they are probably no healthier and potentially even moody as they don’t have carbs and some sugar which you do need a bit of to get through your day. Most of my mates are very active like myself and in quite good condition, we eat well, occasional/daily junk but quite healthy otherwise, however but of the few people I know (friends at work, relative) who do keto, they have little success or it is short lived, due to the above and are not very lean or healthy looking. There’s a lot of information explaining all the above scientifically but as you mention it’s Maccas bargains right now haha.

@BusMan247: Everyone is different. I'm training for a marathon in a couple of months and right now I am generally following a fat-adaptation program, which suggests having carbs in recovery periods, which I was doing for the last few days, but for early training the recommendation is to go as low-carb as possible and to not eat for at least 12 hours before training.
It has been a big change for me as I was a heavy carb loader during previous training and I have found massive benefits, which not only include significant weight loss, but also greater wellbeing with greater clarity of mind, never feeling hungry, no cravings, higher energy levels and recently I have begun seeing improved endurance running performance. It's been an amazing couple of months.
There is always better ways to do things, but I started down this path due to previous success with keto, which has also worked for me and quite a few other people I know.

            • @choofa: Congrats on setting up that marathon target.
Genuinely keen to read your time.
I used to do the city to sea but they axed it in 2018 and didn't pick up another race (15km was the sweet spot, can't see myself doing half or full marathon)

            • @choofa: Firstly that’s awesome and hope your run goes well!
I think you are literally the person I am not talking about in my post when it comes to keto. You have discipline and goals and are fit. Sounds like you are doing plenty of exercise per my point.
Personally I’ve never been a long distance person, 10km is great for me. In my 20s I was probably running about 3:30m/km, reasonable hilly suburb. Now I’m 41 and running 4:30/km and flatter run, but certainly not training for anything, running once a month if that, due to kids work old etc. still single digit fat % though.

What you wrote is interesting because I don’t read too much about nutrition I’ve just learned through trial and error, and I guess the way you are eating is similar to how I am now naturally.
I don’t eat before I train. Smash it, come home and gorge on food - anything healthy or not depending on my mood. I’ll eat a lot at breakfast (couple of steak sandwiches or a curry) and at dinner (steak or chicken and chips and salad) but honestly just have coffee and maybe a biscuit during the day.
My sister does half full marathons.. I could never haha

              • @BusMan247: Interesting topic on running and just to add my 2 cents… I think for most amateur runners, I would argue that it really doesn't matter that much what you eat. Of course, if you want to get the best results you need to optimise everything - nutrition, sleep, training regime, mental, etc.

I ran the full marathon in 2013. Wasn't an active runner before that and definitely not now. My time was average by the overall standard (4:40 hrs) but to me it's a really great achievement.

But if you put your mind to it, you are likely to achieve it. (This is assuming you don't have limiting medical or physical conditions.)

Use commonsense in terms of nutrition and enjoy the training because that is actually the best part of the endeavour.

                • +1

                  @ksj 007:

The journey… It's an amazing experience to get to that starting line. Whatever happens on that day is what it is, but the journey is life changing!

  • Can anyone select low calorie lemonade in the app? I keep seeing it, wanting to order it, but it always says unavailable at this time.

    • +2

Order water - it's so much healthier for you!

      • +4

If you're buying McDonalds, I'll go out and guess health is not priority at that moment in time.

      • I usually go with sparkling water.
