Bosch or LG Dishwasher?

Hey all,

So our Smeg dishwasher is failing and am pretty unimpressed with how unhelpful and expensive the repair is so thinking of switching to Bosch or LG.

Like LG because a bunch of other stuff we have with them and it all works well together but Bosch seems to get a good amount of support.

Any experience here I can leverage?

Thanks

If the Bosch is Made in Germany then go for that, else LG, would be my personal choice.

My 12yo Miele died and was recently replaced with a Bosch series 6. Much cleaner and dryer than my old machine. No experience with LGs.

    • We did the same thing. Couldn't bring myself to pay almost 2 grand for a new Miele so got a Series 6 Bosch and it has not missed a beat.

  • We installed a German-made, Bosch series 8 fully integrated about 9 months ago to replace a dying AEG.

Can't fault it. It's very quiet and does a great "quick wash" in 30 minutes that does 95% of the clean of a full cycle.

Not only that, as gimmicky as I thought the whole home network connectivity thing would be for a dishwasher, programming via WiFi and updates on, finished cycles, rinse-aid and machine care etc.. It's actually quite useful!

    For dishwashers: Bosch
    LG for Washing machines

  • We had a Fisher & Paykel that came with the house. Lasted over 10 years. After it died, bought a Bosch with extended warranty. Made in Germany. Worked well then developed an E14 error just before the extended warranty expired. Called Bosch repairer who replaced a small circuit board which had a small reed switch. Five years on, E14 error developed again. Called Bosch who quoted $100 call out fee and $50 per hour for service. Googled the problem. Took out the circuit board. Bought a reed switch for $3 from JayCar. Got a relative to do some soldering. All fixed now. I expect it to fail again in 5 years. So in my experience, Bosch is good. Has some faults but easily fixed if you know what you're doing. One other thing, with the F&P the dishes were dry once the cycle finished. With the Bosch I have, it relies on the heat absorbed by the dishes during the washing process to dry the dishes. So they are still wet after the cycle. Not a big deal since I run the cycle after dinner and the dishes are dry by the morning.

  • We love our Bosch Series 8.

  • Why not start a poll?

I’ve got a Bosch series 6 dishwasher (the lower of the ones made in Germany) and been happy with it. The cycles are reasonably long 2-2.5 hours for a standard Wash and dry cycle but otherwise quite and generally clean and dry coming out.

Haven’t used LG dishwasher but have washing machine and dry with LG and also been very happy with them.

If they were the around the same price I would get a Bosch, but if there was a good deal on LG, based on my experience with them in other appliances I would probably give it a try.

  • Bosch over lg anyday. See if you can find similarly priced aeg model (aeg is same as bosch except differently branded and offers longer warranty and replacement / installation)

    • Only if it's the German made model Bosch.

Otherwise LG over cheaper Turkish made Bosch.

      • are they not maintaining quality assurance across different factories?

It's not just the quality, it's different materials.

I think the Turkish made ones are made by another company for Bosch.

The cheaper Turkish made Bosch Serie 4 has a plastic bottom inside the dishwasher which points to cost cutting. You wonder what else is inferior to get it to the price point.

The German made ones are all stainless steel. Spend the extra for the German made ones.

          • @JimB: Okay thanks tor the info. Just checked mine and its made in Germany.

Do certain retailers sell one over the other or is it depending on the model number itself? I got mine from bosch australia itself.

            • @kaleidoscope: I think it's usually the series, ie series 6 and up is German made.

            • @kaleidoscope: Retailers will sell all the different models to cater to what the customer wishes to spend

          • @JimB:

            I think

Sounds like speculation to me, what if made in Germany use the same parts?

But in Miele, made in Germany doors are heavier than made in Turkey Miele, which mean less noise. Rest of the components are same.

Other than that quality of the washing all depend on the actual wash, motor, seal and electronics. Rest are just options/good to have based on amount of $$

            • @boomramada: Regardless if the serie 4 is made by Bosch or rebadged, it's definitely not the same quality as the serie 6 & 8.

Serie 6 & 8 are made in Germany.

If they used the same parts, I'd have no issues with the Serie 4, but the plastic inner tub in the Serie 4 screams cheap.

  • Bosch all the way - especially for dishwashers (make sure they are the German-made units).

  • Have a fully integrated Bosch series 6 at home, can't fault the thing. Quiet, efficient, and does a great job washing/drying.

  • Bosch serie 8 with autodoor for fast drying.

  • Bosch, I hate LG
