    A53 5G for $249
Wow that's a steal, waiting to see what happens in 2 days

    • +6

Can't believe it. Bought it for $478 a week ago.

    • +1

Was holding off getting one as all the reviews say it's a slow phone and was looking to get an A73 at a steep discount. Can't justify the difference in price now if I can manage to get an A53 for $249.

      • -4

        Is a53 a 5g phone?

        • +4

It's name is literally "Samsung Galaxy A53 5G"

    • -4

wow daylight robbery and a heist tab s8 ultra for $99

      • +4

        $99 ? what am i missing? I mean it shows for $1349

    • think i am going to cancel my amazon pixel 6 order!

      • +2

Great deal, I'm trading my iPhone 13 for this!

    • -1

      probably require a phone plan

    • +4

They just fixed the price and it is $449 now….and my desire to buy one just vanished.

      • +1

Yeah, I'm going to wait for the A73 or something similar to get as close as it can to $500, be it with cashback or vouchers etc. Maybe Black Friday?? I've said that for the past 3 years or so though. Hopefully something good this time around.

  • +6

How many Telstra Day(s) are there in a year?

    • +19

12, seems to be running a promo every month

    • first Thursday of every month

  • +2

    I think its every month

  • +12

Whilst the A53 is a let down compared to the previous model, at $249, it's a bargain!

    • +2

      100%, especially you’re getting a 5G compatible device at $249 (dropped from $699)

      • +3

It's a 5G device, with OIS on the camera, 120Hz screen and a proper OS. Yes, the Exynos chip is poor but at $249, it's a bargain. If I didn't have the superior A52s 5G I'd have bought one for sure.

        • do either the a52 or a53 use UFS3.1 storage?
          Can't find that detail anywhere..

Also it's kinda crazy the performance difference between the two considering the a53 is supposed to the the successor..

          • +2

@DeToxin: No UFS3.1 storage here. The issue with the Exynos chip isn't just the fact it's around 35% weaker than the SD778 but, the reviews suggest it has a negative effect on the quality of the photos as well. Having said that, there is no better phone on the market at $249.

            • @sinners007: Damn. Was hoping to move from my Motorola Edge 20 Fusion with SD778 to this phone.

I already feel like the 778 is slightly slow.

I need Android 12 and Motorola are slacking.

          • @DeToxin: @lyle88 According to www.gsmarena.com both the A52 and A53 5G have "USB Type-C 2.0, USB On-The-Go".
It's a great website to find any stats on phones/tablets.

            • @PukeyLuke: I've already checked gsmareana thanks. I'm not asking about the USB specification, I'm referring to the internal storage specification.

        • -1

Would you rate this A53 over a Pixel 5?

I'm sick and tired of the shit battery life on my P5

          • @bisaya: curious to know this as well

          • +5

@bisaya: The A53 has the better screen, battery, memory expansion. The P5 has the better chip, camera, stock Android. At $249 it's best to buy first and ask questions later ;)

            • +1

@sinners007: "buy first and ask questions later" A true Ozbargainer haha

          • @bisaya: What SOT are you getting in A12 July security patch?
I’m getting max 5~6 hrs just using wifi, Bluetooth off, location off, auto brightness On (brightness average 40% in slider)

Battery was decent in the beginning but going downhill.

Wonder what A13 will bring hmmmm

    • +1

Would you consider the A53 to be an upgrade from a Samsung Galaxy S9?

      • At $250 it's looking like a decent refresh for my S9+ which is starting to get some weird bugs. New OS and ongoing support being the main benefit.

A53 wins on: refresh rate, cameras seem to be better, new OS, longer lasting battery, faster charging, bluetooth 5.1

A53 retains: expandable storage, NFC, similar internal storage and RAM, same weight, similar size, gorilla glass 5

A53 loses: always on display, wireless charging, 3.5mm jack :( , loses 60 fps 4k video, not as waterproof at IP67 vs the S9+ at IP68, plastic build vs S9's aluminium / glass.

For me at this price I think it's worth while, especially since I really care about keeping expandable storage and most new flagships have dropped that.

More info and camera / video comparisons available here

        • +1

          Sorry bro, it's $449 now.

        • +3

Just FYI, my wifes A53 camera was SO terrible, we have onsold it and gone and gotten a Pixel 6. So much better.

Anyone who cares about the camera should not grab the A53.

    • EDIT: It's a hard pass at $449.

      • +3

It's an Easy Pass at $449.

Is Telstra Day a public holiday in all states? My HR department refused to allow me the day off and I couldn't find reference to it in the EBA. I'm in NSW, btw.

A co-worker said it's only for Telstra customers but isn't that the same as saying Christmas day is for Christians only and all others don't get it..

    • +2

Bloody Telstra man. always scamming the little guy!

      jk btw

    • +7

SlavOz would be proud of this post, well done.

    • +5

A co-worker said it's only for Telstra customers

      $2 Sim should do it

      • +1

sort of what do they ask before you can buy—like do they check your number is telstra locked

    • +2

The problem is you're in NSW. Always missing out on the public holidays others get!

  • thats cheap sony xm4's. saying that I was underwhelmed with my xm3's

    • +1

I find the xm4's much better than xm3

      • I own both XM3 & XM4 and there is practically no discernable difference

        • Yeah I got the XM4's a couple months back to give the 3's to my partner, and beyond the sensor to pause music when you take them off. I can't tell any difference at all. Fantastic headphones though.

Edit; and jsut confused them for the headphones not the earbuds. Forget me

          • @ONEMariachi: I reckon people should refer to them as earbuds, but for some reason they're calling 'em headphones for maximum confusion/product obfuscation.

        • What about between XM2 to XM3/4?

      • How do you find the fit? I do like my XM3s but comfort over a longer timeframe (say a couple of hours) is maybe the one thing I'd really like to see an improvement on. The case being much more compact and Qi compatible is a nice bonus too.

  • +3

Is that an unlocked phone or a plan with Telstra is necessary?

    • +1

You can buy it outright without adding a phone plan

It may be hard to get JB or OW to price match since they’ll say you’d need a Telstra ID to purchase

      • I'm confused by this in the FAQ. Does this mean you need to sign up for a service to get an ID?

You don’t need to be a Telstra customer, but you do have to have a Telstra ID to checkout at the store for Telstra Day.

New customers looking to take up Telstra Day device or accessory offers can just simply add it to their no lock-in plan online at purchase.

        • Old Telstra customer will still have their Telstra ID, just signed in then and it all seem to work.

          • @annarchon: I just tried this, I'm not sure that works.. I can login but it asks me for my mobile, landline or telstra account #. None of which are currently with Telstra…

            • @bisaya: Might depend on how old the ID is?

I have had a few, the latest one was one that was linked to both a Telstra prepaid and Boost prepaid. (I used the same email and some how they managed to linked the Boost one to it as well. Telstra one expired years ago, but Boost only expired back in May). When I logged it, it just shows no active service.

            • @bisaya: Telstra account number should work (2000 number), unless it has been long enough that the account has been placed into final status (effectively closed)

              • @ONEMariachi: Yeah my old account# might be too old. I just tried and got this error. Thanks for the tip anyway

"The details entered don’t match our records. Please check the account details and try again."

  • Some good deals lined up this time around.

    • +3

they don't seem to be repeating the GOAT iphone 13 for $999 deal

      • I wish I knew about that at the time, I absolutely would have grabbed an iPhone 13. Later in July they had a 7-day sale and it was $250 off, I said to the Telstra employee that I would wait for the August Telstra Day. Well, that didn't go to plan. I'm, so annoyed, I don't want an iPhone 14, especially at what I expect will be a higher price that the iPhone 13 RRP.

  • +6

Damn, got excited thinking those were headphones not bloody earphones.

  • +2

in case of the mobile phones, are they locked to Telstra network?

  • +1

FYI guys, still waiting for my iPhone 13 Pro 256Gb ordered on last Telstra day to get dispatched. The status is still showing as - Waiting for Stock from day 1. I'm thinking of cancelling it now. It's been almost a month. Seems like Telstra just gets money for items that they don't have in stock and keep orders on stand by. Very unhappy.

    • +9

send me a pm with your order number

    • +1

That’s strange, I ordered iPhone 13 Pro Max Alpine green from the previous Telstra Day aswell and got it within 2 business days. You should follow up with Telstra support.

      • Yeah, me too, ordered on the same day, iPhone 13 Pro 256Gb Alpine Green. Still showing as 'Waiting for stock' status in Telstra app.
Contacted Telstra support a couple of times since I bought it. First time, was advised to go to any closest Telstra store and get the phone from available stock. When I did and showed their specialist the chat history with Telstra support, was advised that the stock they have could not be used for fulfilling my Telstra day order since it should be fulfilled by Telstra warehouse only.
Second time I called Telstra by phone and was asked to wait for the stock patiently with no ETA provided lol. Or go buy it for full retail price haha.
Anyways, I've already requested to cancel my order since it's been a month waiting and the new iPhone 14 is coming out next month. Just feel sorry for Telstra customer support and the time spent on trying to get what I paid for.

  • +2

So how much would be the S22 Ultra. Waiting for a good deal. Cheapest I have seen is ~ $1200 but that doesnt happen alot.

    • +2

At original price, but you’d be getting $792 of bonus value on Xbox All Access bundle

      • s22 base is 1250 at telstra i think

wonder what you could sell it for, would be nice to get a cheap xbox

        • Yeah I'm wondering if I can get it, sell the phone and xbox and get free ultimate that way

  • Is Telstra day like those other feeding frenzy too good to be true days where they only have a few items and it just about impossible to get one??

    • I don't think so. You just might have to wait a while for new stock to be despatched.

    • generally the never sell out you just go on a long waiting list until they get more stock

  • Noob question - can you use Telstra points to pay for these?

    • Have done it before though not sure whether its a specific telstra day deal

    • Usually applies in both locations as points discounts

  • +1

Is Telstra Day meant to celebrate the day that Sol left the building, or is it just a monthly 'let's get the crap out of the warehouse' day?

    • +1

      /r/inclusiveor

  • Awesome price on the SO tab Ultra. Cheaper than my staff discounted price :(

    • But why buy that over a laptop at that price..?

  • Are these sales limited by numbers i.e selling 10k devices or unlimited sales on these prices? Just thinking about my chances to get a mobile. Thanks

  • +3

I got my hopes up that it was the WH-1000XM4's.

  • +2

Even though A53 not as good as previous A52S but for this price, its a no brainer.

  • +10

    I think it's a pricing error on the a53

    Normally is listed as $699
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-on-a-plan/s…

Tesltra day it says RRP $499 and with a $250 discount

Wouldn't be surprised if it's suppose to be 250 off 699

    • +7

      stop with this negativity

      • +2

        Hopefully it's available for $249

but a $450 discount seems a bit dubious

        • You could be right but I don't think they will sell many if it's $449. I'd hold off for a better deal on the A73 in that case.

        • -1

they only cost like $50 to make so lets do hope it is for $249

average price is around $500 so $250 would be a real half price

    • -3

      No that’s wrong.
RRP is 499. And Telstra is giving you 250 off, therefore the price of 249 is correct.

      • +2

Im seeing multiple aussie websites/articles saying its RRP is 699 aussie, US sites $499

if its 249 i'll definitely snag one and cancel my pixel 6 order

        • +1

It also currently has a higher trade in price on mobile monster ($340) - so it definitely seems like it's a price error and they used the US pricing

        • pixel 6 is more superior or are you talking about 6a?

          • @Poor Ass: pixel 6 from amazon UK deal ($705), order yet to be fulfilled/ awaiting stock

but at 249 i'll be happy with an a53 until the pixel 7 comes around - modems are a bit crap on the pixel 6s

            • @desync: you are kind of comparing a mid range A53 to high end pixel 7 at $1000+?

I'm not even Samsung supporter but this will sell
