So why on the Telstra site the outright price is $699? Click the explore link and check the listing for yourself.

    • +1

You got it right, they corrected the price just now

    • You win!

    • You jinxed it!

  • any more $2 NBN for 2 months?? Mine is expiring in 17th August

  • Is the A53 dual sim?

    • +1

      No :(

    • Single SIM

    • +1

      no love for the mistress

    • Single sim

  • $249 wow

  • Anyone have experience of adding any of these devices to their current post paid Siebel account so we can pay monthly instead of upfront?

    • All new plans are added to salesforce n don't think you can add it to your Siebel account.
One way is to migrate your old plan to the new plan.

  • Any chance of them adding in iPhone deals this time around?

  • Is the A53 worth updgrading from the A52 (non-s, non-5g)?

Otherwise looking at Pixel 7 or S23 next year?

    • +1

A53 is not a major upgrade over the A52. You get slightly better performance and battery but lose the headphone jack. The rest is pretty much the same.

The Pixel 7 and S23 aren't even worth discussing at 4x the price of the A53.

      • Also, no charger included in A53.

    • Price corrected to $449 - that's a no from me. Irrelevant question

  • Does the A53 have a NFC chip

  • +1

My old telstra account number (last used in 2013!!) does not seem to allow me to create a telstra id right now.

Anyone know if you can get those prices without a telstra id by going into their store?
Alternatively, is there a free route to a telstra id?
And yes, I did read the page - it's not clear that a telstra id is mandatory for non-web/instore purchases.

    • as far as i know, there isn't a free route. easy way may be to buy a $2 telstra sim n activate it.

      • Done - good idea, thanks.
Grabbed one from the local post office and just activated it on line so I now have a $2 telstra id.
        (edited a few minutes later)
And of course, it was $2 wasted because my cunning plan for a cheap phone was destroyed by a telstradroid's pricing error.

    • Could also buy a Boost sim from this deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/716422 and after cashback would be free. You can use your Boost sign-in details to login to Telstra. Not sure though if you would receive the sim in time. Took me a few days to get it after ordering last month.

For the S22 / Xbox deal, do you to buy the device outright up front? Or can you get the device only contract and get the same benfits?

  • @OP how do you purchase this if you have a Telstra account but no plan? I know price wont be correct until the deal starts but I tried to check out A53 at $699 and it says I need a plan to complete the purchase.

    • I got a few items before as outright. you should see an option for outright purchase. If you got telstra points, you can bring down the price even further (again you can buy outright). Have purchased both the way.

    • press outright?

  • any deals using telstra plus points?

  • Does the deal start at 12am or 1am?

    • +1

According to the countdown timer and the last few Telstra Day deals, should be 1am Thursday.

    • +1

      1am.

  • Is A53 locked to telstra network?

  • -2

    Can I buy online

  • -6

telstra day deals are not good anymore
only the 1st and 2nd ones were good

    what is this $100-200 off

    No good

  • Can any comment on the performance of the A53 vs Motorola G51 5G that was $199 recently? The G51 has a Snapdragon chip over the Exynos in the A53, but the numbers seem to indicate that the A53 still performs better except for power consumption. All other specs seem to fairly similar. Just wondering about real life performance.

    Thanks

    • Can't comment on real life performance but the A53 actually does have a better screen (AMOLED vs LCD), better camera (OIS vs none), faster charging (25W vs 10W).

The Moto G51 does have pros in: 3.5mm jack and a physical proximity sensor (A53 uses crappy virtual proximity sensing).

The G51 is also massive if that matters to you. At 170.5mm it's taller than the S22 Ultra (163.3mm), iPhone 13 Pro Max (160.8mm), Xiaomi 12S Ultra (163.2mm).

      • I bought it the G51 for my MIL recently, but wondering if the A53 would suit her better. I just know how poor the performance can be on the mid-low range Samsung phones.

Edit: Forget it. It's not great value at $449.

        • +1

I got my dad the much older and slower A51 a few years ago and it was good enough for him.

Not sure what your MIL needs but even for myself the A5X range has been plenty fast enough. Unless she's doing serious gaming on her phone I can't imagine the Exynos 1280 being problematic on general phone use.

Just curious, when was the last time you used the Samsung mid-range? They've gone a long, long way since their J and early A series from 2010s.

Edit: yeah at $449 definitely not worth the difference

          • @johnn: I've had experience with J series and lower end A series in the last 5 years. They seemed to almost grind to a halt after a couple of years. I'm used to higher end phones too, which probably amplifies it. I'm sure the speed would be fine, I guess I'm more concerned with longevity. Once they get an android version update or 2, they really start to struggle.

            • @wombat81: Ah yep that'd be right, the J series was legitimately terrible.

Ever since the A30/A50 in 2019 Samsung have reinvented their midrange offerings. Much better performance and value- Chinese competitors like Xiaomi, Oppo and Huawei (at the time) were destroying them in the midrange up until then.

My missus had the A50 for 2 years that held up perfectly well, my dad has had the A51 last until now. Can say they've definitely turned a corner since 2019.

  • guessing they made a mistake, the price for the Samsung Galaxy Tab s8 Ultra 5g seems wrong. looks like they intended to put the s8+ as that matches the RRP.

    • It's looking like it but if it's not. Then it would be great buy.

      • yep, I think I will actually grab it if it stays as the Ultra. More than I wanted to pay for a new tablet, but will consider it a long time investment rather than just buying one of the Lenovo's or Xiaomi's which will age out sooner.

  • +1

Great price on Samsung Galaxy A53 5G

  • +6

    A53 is showing $449

    • They bumped it up lol

  • +3

Must have updated the pricing, A53 is showing $449

    • +3

At this price, might as well get the bonus trade in deal for Pixel 6a at JB for $499.

  • +4

Is it just me or do Telstra screw prices up quite often? There have been quite a few Plus store screw ups, now this.

    • +6

I reckon its on purpose for the publicity. Sure, true ozbargainers won't buy one now they seen a $249 price. But if your Aunt Mavis needs a new phone tomorrow, you'd send her for an a53 deal that you otherwise wouldn't have paid any attention to.

They are out to trap us, with carefully laid bait trails of Eneloops and such.

  • Hopefully some discounts on M8 Pro.

  • +4

they fix the price for A53 its $449 now

    • +9

Not worth buying. Close the forum 😄

    • +2

I spent 20 minutes carefully reading all the comments about the A53 and last comment tells me it's a mistake. Lol

      • At least you learnt it's not a deal at $449 ;)

    • +1

How can I take my vote back?
Nvm found it in the votes tab

    • +1

gone from a deifnite buy now think later to I won't bother with the A53. I expect they will fix the pricing error on the tab s8 ultra too soon.

      • True

        • +4

aaaand price fixed. s8 Ultra now $1649 on sale. Well what a bummer, gone from 1 definite and 1 maybe buy to nothing worth looking at for me.

          • +2

@gromit: Went from considering replacing my s7 plus 5g with the s8 ultra to nevermind. Keeping it.

            • +1

@xoom: really am quite disappointed. was quite excited by the prices, though at least with the s8 I think it was quite obvious a pricing error, the A53 looked like just an awesome deal. oh well, just another telstra day with not much on offer for me.

            • @xoom: And next, they will update xm4 to $350 😁😆😆😅🤣
What a joke of a sale by telstra.

  • Trying to get my Boost signing to work with telstra. Its not working

  • I've got an Oppo A91. Been a great phone but cracked the camera lenses and it's too slow as in frequently switching between maps and other apps. Would the Samsung A53 be a upgrade in chip performance? If, so how much? Can't find anything on net

  • +1

Price error. A53 offer was too good to be true.

  • $289

    Save $100
    off $389 RRP

    What a big lie…

  • +3

What a disappointment after initially advertising A53 for $249.
$449 is barely a deal, BingLee eBay store is selling it for $497 (plus cashback, discounted eBay gift card).

I'd probably bite at $350, definitely at $300. I guess I saved myself some money now.

  • Samsung S8 Ultra 5G is obviously error also, it meant to be S8+ 5G @ 1349.

    • +1

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra 5G price has also been 'fixed'. Now showing as $1649

  • Literally just ordered the Sony WF-1000XM4 this morning at 1am for $339…

    • Shopping is like feeding Gremlins, you don't do it after midnight.

  • +3

Looks like this post got a lot of artificial votes for a price error.. or bait and switch…

    • Deal has been moved to the forums as a pricing-error.

  • +1

Wasn't interested in the Galaxy A53 this morning when I first saw this posted but now that it was a pricing error I suddenly want it

  • +1

It's a bit (actually, a lot) of a joke that 2 of the advertised items were pricing errors. Other than their superior mobile coverage they really don't do anything well. Price, customer service, sales, etc.

    • They let ozb do the QA for free. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have detected it till later if they had not read our comments.

  • Telstra Day website now advertising the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra as $449, what a shambles.

    • They are a disgrace.

  • +1

    Samsung Galaxy A53 5G. Was $699
    Now $449. Save $250.

    Lol

  • Last months was the best, iPhone 13 pros and PM at JBs using the discounted GC. Winnah!
