Australia Post Car Insurance $135 Cashback

How many people here would own an Australia Post Car though?

    • +4

Does an ex postie CT110 count?

      • +3

Have you seen the market prices for those things lately? Another victim of the second hand market going mental during covid.

    • +3

Why would you post your car? Surely driving it is cheaper!

  • If the cashback is approved within days, what’s stopping us from cancelling it right after?

    • +1

Just the risk of it not happening that quick, but that's fine if you're happy with the product anyway. For reference, my cashback took around 60 days

    • Tracked within days, likely not approved until later.

  • +4

Aami was cheaper and a better agreed value for us. DYOR

    • +4

      Aami was cheaper

      That is very rare…

I saved around $300 when I moved away from Aami.

      • +1

Wish I could bold my response so I could ask “who are you with now?”

        • +7

          “who are you with now?”

          • +2

            @Synticulous: not exactly…

            “who are you with now?”

        • +1

I'm not even sure. I pretty much change each year now. I think currently I'm with Budged Direct.

          • +7

@jv: so next year, will you budge again or stay with them?

          • @jv: Does changing affect NCD? I recall when recently getting a quote they asked if I can provide proof my previous insurer was giving me max NCD. I change every year and have always put max NCD as I’ve never claimed.

            • +3

              @Dr Fruit:

              Does changing affect NCD?

              no

AAMI have been a complete let down and clusterf*** for me and many others.

Avoid. Person after person let down by them. As someone said in the thread below, they're cheap for a reason.

I have gone through a lot of pain trying to deal with AAMI.

      • Fwiw they did a bang-up job repairing my brand new Lexus ES. Their premium jumped by 15.5% YOY though (it's been 2 years since the repair), so I'm probably waving goodbye to them.

  • OP, when you say “within days” are we talking a week or so or a month or so?

    • +3

They mean it can be quantified in a number of days.

    • i think it was 4 to 5 days. but note this was back in March so they may have changed their approval process.

  • +1

Signed up for my 488 Pista.

    • Spider?

      • Peter Parker.

    • ah! a fellow distinguished motoring enthusiast!

bought a policy for my soon-to-be-delivered 488 GTE AF Corse

  • +5

Hopefully they don't handle the claims like they do their postal service. Underwritten by QBE sure, but they will likely lose the communication between them :)

  • +4

even after cashback, the insurance is costlier than other providers.

    • +1

for my 9 year old car it was the cheapest than the ones i was comparing with. i wonder if aus post car insurance is new to the market

  • +1

Is it available on third party insurance?

  • Is cashback valid on third party cover only or is for comprehensive cover

    • +1

      third party too

      • Would it be possible you could let us know where mentioned third party get cashback too please ? Thanks. I can't find it written anywhere . Or did you get cashback from third-party policy already? For example, a third-party only policy is $170, after $135 cashback only need pay $35, that is too good to be missed out on.

        • I got the cashback but it is still pending so could be declined. Sometimes cashback goes through.

  • -3

Just remember folks, the cheapest car insurance is no car insurance.

    • +1

theres no cashback on that though….

      • +2

There is usually a pretty good follow up post on the OzB forums but…

  • 5k per year for model 3. Nice

  • thanks OP. signed up for my xr6.

    • +1

Signed up for my Falcon 9.

  • +3

Used cashback last time round. In total, a bit less than $250 a year for comprehensive car insurance. Not bad.

    • +1

      Good deal.

    • With what excess? Excess makes a big difference.

      • +1

$1.5mil, better hope he doesn't crash!

      • +1

$550 excess. Market value only for the car, unfortunately.
Premium was $348.43 and cashback $100 at the time.
The car is being driven mostly for school runs, it's doing less than 2-3k a year, so I believe the insurance is appropriate.

  • +1

hope their car insurance service has better delivery than the postal service

  • +3

Had an incident and needed to make a claim with auspost car insurance. Their customer service is absolutely horrible - would defs pay a little bit more with other providers.

    • Is this recently? They only switched to QBE this year. My claim last month was all handled thru QBE, using QBE claim systems and forms. Was very easy to deal with in my experience.

      • It was around a year ago - do hope that switch to QBE would mean better service

        • +1

It would seem like the switch to QBE have improved the service, based on your experience pre-QBE and mine post.

  • what's point hike price then giving cashbacks ? don't forget to compare with budget and real, they always cheap for 3rd parties, and WW for all comprehensive ones especially when they do pricebeats.

  • +4

They have gone berserk… $4571.89 premium per annum for a agreed value of $15,500 car

    • Wow. How many at fault incidents have you had?

That's madness even with numerous incidents.

      • zero

        • That's ridiculous then. Must be some other stupid perceived risk factor they have picked up

          • @arcticmonkey: Just redid the quote and it came to $924 … maybe some system glitch.

  • -1

Why would anyone get car insurance from Australia Post is beyond me.

  • Woops upvoted before doing all the numbers.. yeah nah to worth switching from RAC for third part fire and theft.

  • +1

Works for me, was paying $540 last year, then it would costs $688 to renew (lazy tax here), did a quote with AusPost, ended up paying $544 for the same insured conditions before the cashback. No brainer which I would choose.

    • how much was the excess amount? curious to know

  • +3

Would I get the CB only if I choose an Annual payment? Or does it apply to monthly payments too?
    Thanksssss

    • Would also like to know as it’s about the same as I currently pay. So I could switch and get a free month or two basically.

      • I presume that CB would apply to both (Monthly/Yearly). Since we commit to being with the insurance company for a year.

  • Remember you may be eligible for loyalty discounts with your mortgaging bank that just also happens to sell car insurance.
Failing that, use NRMA as a baseline for slightly above market rates when comparing.

  • Still $1 more expensive (after cashback) than renewing my current (same level of) car insurance with ING. Prices seem inflated.

  • The premium is almost 2x of what I pay on my car.

  • +2

Cashback? I’d prefer a Cartier to be honest…

  • Got a quote of $5000+ for Tesla long range, I’d rather stay with Rollin

  • Just signed up for this and my purchase was tracked which was great. My only regret is that I somehow couldn't get a free pizza in the deal.

  • +1

Is it available on a third party as well or just full?

  • -1

Browsing through pages not actually reading. "Was $100… now $135". Wait! WHAT?

  • Their prices seem to vary quite a lot depending on the item. For instance my my car quote came to about the same as what i was paying elsewhere, but with the $135 cashback makes it worthwhile changing. The house/contents on the other hand was 4 times more with Aust Post compared with Youi prices! As always, it pays to shop around with insurance.

  • Has anyone had the cashback confirmed yet?

    • No, I cancelled within cooling off period. Refund will be issued by cheque. Not sure if I will get cashback.
