  • hmm…are switching energy providers starting to be like the the mobile network/credit card shuffle? Since no lock in periods, just move from biller to biller every couple of months to get any rewards?

I guess so. If you can be bothered there's always a cash back thing going on with someone.
I wonder if you'd get on a ban list after a while.

  • How low do you have to stay with these guys for? 180 days?

    • until cash rewarded?
Do they do credit check? will affect credit score if changing every few month?
      Residential and business ?

I switched over to Powershop as they came out the cheapest on the energy compare website and so did a friend. Claimed the $250 rebate. 2 weeks later we both get emails from Powershop saying the rates will go up…and by some strange coincidence by $250 as well. I wonder if this lot will do something like that too and claw back that cashback

I was about to switch to Powershop too after comparing and noticed there rates were going up so I'm glad I didn't join.

To be fair rates went up across the board as well in the last 6 months. My electricity bill this month is double what it was 6 months ago in Feb, even tho it is winter, I did not expect winter + rate rise was going to double the monthly fees.

You can always port out to someone else.

      • Think its going to come to that soon. Just have to keep an eye on the T&Cs in porting out after a short period

  • Any recommendations? My place doesn't have a meter than can determine off/on peak hours, so I get charged a flat rate all the time.
I'm currently with Origin and my bills have been 40% more expensive for the last 1.5 years (probably more now).

    • flat rate? lucky you! start mining them crypto!

      • An expensive flat rate I would say. I think 92c per kWh, but surely it's more now.

  • Id imagine it will take at least 60-90 days to get the cashback verified…?

Currently with globird and looking to jump ship as their price is up recently. This cashback is really tempting but I looked into EA reviews briefly and it is a horror story. Thoughts on EA? any other recommendations to jump on?

My mother in law passed away. We notified them. They continued to bill her for a good 2 years for the energy supply (obviously no one saw it). We eventually got a letter from their lawyers with a claim for the "money owed."
They told us that we'd only notified them that she'd passed away pertaining to the "gas side of the business". It took a year of my time to argue to not pay them - and many many many emails/phone calls/ombudsman complaints.

    • I just left globird as well, the increase was ludicrous! I just went with a spreadsheet with prices based on my last bills usage. Interestingly, AGL worked out to be one of the lowest so I've gone back. But its no lock in anyway so I'll reassess in 6 months again.

I have just got my cashback from them after 209 days.

    Few notes on this:
    - Cashrewards were outstanding, they were prompt and followed up on all my emails
    - Energy Australia, rejected it twice. Both times they said I did not have an account with them, yet they were still sending me a bill on the same email (go figure)
    - Money came in last week, in my account a few days later
    - actual service outside of the cashback debacle from Energy Australia has been really good.

Moral of the story. they make you bloody work for the cashback. but still worth it in my eyes

Depends how much you value your time following this up.

      • 100% mate.

But for $150 cashback (i just did electricity), i think it was worth it.

  • I was with Energy Australia until recently (ACT). When wholesale prices starting going crazy they immediately upped their prices. Went back to Origin Energy (moved away from them about 18m ago to Energy Australia as they were a little cheaper).

The difference in plans would have cost me hundreds. Do your sums before taking advantage of this, because when you factor in the sign up fee (about $85?), there's not a lot of savings.

Plus Returning EA customers for the same premises not eligible. So, if you've already been a customer in your current house, you won't get the cashback.

    • sign up fee? this is not mentioned in any of the offer docs etc. are you sure this is a thing?

  • I signed up a while ago at the same offer when they still did fixed plans and had to contact cash rewards when it didn’t show up. Now it’s sitting on pending so here’s hoping I’ll actually get the cashback.

  • What's the deal with not being able to set a date to change over? I'm currently on a fixed rate plan with Origin that has 2 weeks left to run. What's the impact of changing now?

  • Looks like I was out of luck. Despite signing up within the window, I contacted customer support the next day to give them my specific NMI and MIRN (since thanks to some council (profanity), our supply address and mailing address are different). But doing so required them to abandon the original application and set up a completely new one - so no more cash back.

  • did anyone's cashback tracked yet from yesterday? my application starts with a CR at the front.
