Not sure why people bother with these Dettol branded wipes, they are so overpriced. Even the Coles branded wipes are cheaper and have more active ingredient w/w.

  • So, with S&S you get a cheaper price on the product, but you need to cancel the subscription to that product once it arrives to get it at that price. If this is done constantly can they revoke your S&S privileges or can you do it until the cows come home?

Wait until the goods at your door step. I setup 6months every time and cancel all of them once or twice a quarter.
Never had any issue since the S&S came out.
They may not be very price competitive but deliver to door next day or sometime the same day is really good for lazy me.

I instantly cancel every S&S subscription immediately after I place the order - the order itself doesn't get cancelled. Never had them revoke the privilege either.

I choose the box that says I want the initial discount. Seems unlikely to me they'll revoke that privilege.

    • Explaination here.

    • I buy Coke on S$S every few months. I always cancel once I get the first delivery, and have no issue 'resubscribing' in a month or two when I want to buy more. I've been doing it for years and never had an issue doing so.

  • are these isopropyl?

    • No, benzalkonium chloride

      • Aren't they the same/similar? Is one better than the other?

Ethanol and Isopropyl alcohol only works in high concentration - at least 60% (ideally 70%).

Alcohol wipes are generally not made in large multipack containers like this (although they do exist) as alcohol evaporates rapidly. The customer would complain of dry wipes. Alcohol is also very drying to the skin, and flammable.
If it is diluted, or evaporates, the residue will have no effect.

It would be considered more 'natural', and effective against most bacteria, and some fungus. It works by breaking apart the cell wall of a bacteria so bacterial resistance isn't really a concern- it's action is a physical chemical reaction.

Benzalkonium Cl is an antibacterial agent that will be effective even at 0.5%. Like all antibacterials, there is concern of bacterial resistance developing over time. It is active only against specific bacteria as it targets specific machinery within the bacteria. Even when it dries, the residue will continue to have some antibacterial action (for a few hours)

If you want something for daily use around the home, I would recommend a spray bottle made up with 70% (in water) of Isopropyl alcohol or ethanol (ethanol can be bought very cheaply as 'methylated spirits' - which is ~ 90% ethanol). Both are equivalent in effectiveness.

I would also add tea tree oil which has been shown to be very effective at killing fungus.

          • @greatlamp: Thank you!
Do you know of any good Tea Tree bath wash/soap (for antifungal wash)?

    • What's the difference?

  • I don’t like these ones. They feel thinner and surface isn’t as large as the Palmolive ones

To anyone wondering about cancelling S&S, I always cancel my S&S once I receive an email notification from Amazon telling me my items "has been dispatched". At that point it's left the warehouse and is in Auspost's/Toll's hands, and any charges to my card are final, including the S&S discount.

And actually, Amazon indirectly sanctions this by way of the cancellation menu itself, having a "I wanted the initial discount" option when they ask why you're cancelling. It also explains that they will attempt to cancel any unshipped items, which is why you need to wait until they've been dispatched.

    Screenshot of the menu here.

You're an honest man. I always thought that's admitting to the crime so I choose everything except that.

      • Haha that's true, I've never looked at it that way.

Although I suppose they wouldn't offer the 10% in the first place if it was losing them money. Whether you leave the S&S running for 100 orders, or cancel after just one, it's profit. And as long as Uncle Bezos is still breathing, I doubt he's gonna swing the ban hammer at any customer making him money.

        • Bezos has too much money, he won't care about us insignificant being cancelling S&S discount on wipes.

  • Quality wise, how do these compare to the aldi one?

    • Same or maybe a little better (could be placebo).

However, I can’t find Aldi ones stocked anymore, just the pro version which is $4.30, nearly the same price as these….

  • Does anyone know what happened to the Aldi $2.50 wipes in yellow pack? They seem to have been replaced with a pro version costing $4.30!
