[NSW] U91 Fuel $1.269/L, U98 Fuel $1.449/L @ BP Clovelly

980

The cheapest petrol in Sydney according to the Fuelcheck & Petrolspy @ BP Clovelly. Only U91 & 98 though

If you don't want to wait in line, Sparkles Petroleum down the road also has 95, is also fairly cheap + BP Randwick also

Not 7-11, hence sorry no choppers but if you're a stickler for branded fuel then bring your jerry cans

    • LOL
I got all my family and friends to fill up on Friday night
      You had to be quick.

This was as a result of a furious ad hoc price war between the 2 BP stations in Randwick and the 2 independents..

So had a choice of 4 service stations in Randwick to buy fuel
Every time I checked the price had dropped another 2c
      It was almost comical

Warning about Sparkles Clovelly Rd and other independants
Sparkles offen drop the price by around 10c/L each night.so I made a habbit of buying my fuel from them.
After about 6 to 8 months I started getting problems - the Engine light would come on.
My mechanic plugged in his scanner and told me there was a problem with the oxygen sensor
This was a very costly fix - about $500 to replace the oxygen sensor and very risky too as exhaust manifold could have been damaged adding to further costs.

My mechanic advised me to start using Premium 98 which I did for about 4 weeks
I started buying fuel at 7/11 instead taking advantage of the Fuel price lock in their app
7/11 sell Mobil fuel for those that dont know.
The engine light eventually started to go out at times but still came on again a couple of time for a few days
Eventually it went out and stayed out and I switched back to 7/11's Premium 95
I did that for 2 - 3 weeks then dropped back to 7/11's regular 91 ULP and still havent had a problem
      This was months ago.

Ive leant my lesson and wont buy CHEAP FUEL at Sparkles or any other independent again.

  • Can someone please explain to me what the price logic is between suburbs, especially chain stores? How come Clovelly a richy rich suburb gets lowest fuel prices in Sydney?

    • +11

the rich pay less. Thats how they stay rich

      • +2

Doesn't really answer the question. Why does BP do this?

        • It’s probably not corporate shop would be private owned

    • +5

This is definitely a one off. Since moving here from the West, I'd say on an average day fuel prices are 15-20c more expensive in the Eastern suburbs

      • +1

yeh… which is why this makes 0 sense. What reason is there to do an one off discount? It's not like a marketing campaign where you are enticing these customers to visit your store so they can see how good it is in the hopes they will come back. It's a frikken petrol station.

        • +1

The owners needs some quick cash? stock too high and he has something coming in. need a marketing stunt.. you never know for sure

    • username checks

  • syd fuel usually lower price around bass hill, revesby suburbs surround

  • +2

Sucks it doesn’t have a landing pad

  • The price has been changing all afternoon, ive seen it range between 1.4 to 1.33

    • Just about to say. This morning 3 stations in that area were listed as the cheapest in Sydney, with E10 at 143.9 and U91 at 145.9.

A local 7-11 branch is lacking a bit of market reaction here. "sigh"

    Serious question.
As it doesn't make sense to me.

opec and traders have the say

    • +1

imo, oil price is now not as high as a couple months back and is in down trend atm, hence the fuel price.

      • +1

        Ok. Thanks both.

        So OPEC.. Hmm.

Lol I made a post ages ago about this and mine got merged with fuelwatch, why is this post still active lmao

  • Surprised to see how low BP price is as normally they are the most expensive ones, not worth the drive to fill up and waste 1/3 tank when returned…..

  • Just filled up at BP and was even cheaper - 1.24 for u94

  • +1

This wont stay like this for long, Retailer will soon start to add the extra 22cents tax come the near the end of the month

  • Thanks OP, just went Randwick BP, wasn't many people as expected, only waited around 5 mins.
