  • CL18, Hynix for dual rank… thanks but no thanks.

    • can you please elaborate on it? I am buying another ddr4 kit (PNY XLR8) and I am curious if I missing important technical details about it

If you won't be overclocking don't worry about chips

        • This but also, it's fairly easy to overclock DDR4 RAM with Zen 3 for some decent gains, that's why it's generally a good idea to avoid bad chips. It's also why RAM that uses Samsung B-Die chips is the best, followed by Micron E-Die chips. They overclock well and can run 24/7 at 1.450v and higher without issue.

For example, I've had the below (Micron E-Die chips) for 2 years now and have had a lot of fun overclocking them:

^That was the best deal ever for DDR4, nothing so far has beat it.

I purchased 2 kits at the time (so 4 x 8Gb = 32Gb), and have been running them overclocked without issue for a year+, here are my overclock settings:

          • @ThatsCheap: So when you say overclocking,.. that's higher then the stated ram speed is, so this ram for example 3600's, so your overclocking over 3600mhz?, just wondering too can you see actual real world benefits overclocking?

            • @Italkdigital: You will see no noticeable increase over the default timings in gaming, just make sure you set the memclk= uclk = 1800

I had bad experience with Hynix RAM on Ryzen. Last time, I had to resort to manual timing (as the default settings for the Kingston RAM modules (with Hynix RAM) didn't work) so I had to drop speed. Basically, I couldn't even get the quoted speed. Switched to Micron-E based modules, can even overclock.

If it is for Intel, then probably not going to have issue. I couldn't return the RAM modules because the store used Intel motherboard to test (I knew that issue couldn't be re-produced coz. those RAM modules worked fine on my Intel board). Those weren't DDR4-3600 RAM so maybe these ones are okay. I'd rather pay more to go Micron-E.

        • I'm using 2x8 DJR on x470 5600x, 3666mhz 16 17 17 18 1.37v tight secondary and tertiary as well.

Sometimes it's just luck of the lottery; RAM, memory controller, board, BIOS, AGESA

    • Wish I saw this weeks ago when I ordered the 16gb kit version of this. The 3600MHz xmp profile simply won't work with my b550 mobo(has support for 3600). If I try to run it at 3600, it will just freeze windows and crash my gpu telling me the gpu driver failed. Tested it both on a nvidia and amd gpu.

Trying to get it refunded now. Please avoid.

  • This loose timing could be Samsung C as well…..
    Dual rank of course
