iPhone 13 128GB $999, iPhone 13 Pro 128GB $1449, iPhone 13 Pro Max 128GB $1599 Delivered @ Telstra

3190

Looks like as same as the last month's Telstra day deal prices: iPhone 13 $350 off and pro and pro max versions $250 off. Has the outright buying option and offer valid until the 15th of August. Probably JB-HiFi will price match as last time, OW will price beat if you are lucky!

PS: If you could get a price match from JB-HiFi don't forget to use discounted gift cards to pay! (eg: ShopBack has 2.5% off JB gift cards that you can buy right away)

JB don't seem to have much stock, so I think they haven't recovered from being ozbargained last time

    • Will OW price beat if you have a Telstra ID?

      • +1

No, because my local OW person won't login with his/her Telstra ID to check the price (adding it to the cart, go through the checkout to check for any postage).

  • +1

You can cancel telstra plan after 1 month right

    • -1

      Don't think so.

    • You can if you want to pay out the plan.

  • +2

How to mute these deals after I caved and bought one for me and the missus a few months ago at the usual special 1249 just before they started regularly going on sale for 999 haha.

    • +3

Always the way. My view is you get the best deal you can when you purchase and live with it.

On the other side I got an around the world business class airfare for $3500 about five years ago. It is painful, after you’ve get a really good deal, to consider paying “realistic” prices again.

    • +1

You got a 28 degrees card? They can refund you the difference.

  • How much was the iPhone 13 RRP first released?

  • +1

I think I probably ask this every Telstra day deal, but can I get a $2 sim activate it and then buy a phone online?

    • +4

Yes you can. If you ask everytime, does nobody ever answer you?

      • +1

Thanks! Yeah, I think it is also useful info for anyone else reading who might not know.
I've never actually gone through with buying one online through Telstra before, so I just want someone's opinion who has actually done it.

        • Thanks that's helpful!

    • No, says post paid customer, also I tried as I have a pre paid service, wouldn’t allow me unless I selected a service

  • Can you add the phone to you precasting plan? (Without buying it outright)

  • Would the tourist refund scheme work with the Telstra store ?

    • +1

As long as you get a tax invoice from Telstra it should work

      • +1

If the phone is over $1000, you must also have your name and address on the tax invoice in order to claim a TRS refund.

  • Looks like a plan must be added this time around.

    • No you just select outright purchase.

      • you still need to attach it to a plan. Even if it is a prepaid

        • Not if you already have an existing Telstra plan

        • +4

No you don't. I bought it with my Telstra ID account with no plans. I don't even have any services on that account. Just selected outright and checked out.

          • +1

@aussie-bargainz: that's weird, coz I get an error message saying a plan is needed.

            • @Infinite-Justice: it seems like even Telstra staff are confused about this — I asked on live chat and they insisted that I need to select a plan, but when selecting to pay outright, I was able to check out without adding a plan.

As far as I can tell, if you have an existing Telstra ID then you can pay outright and check out without adding a plan, even if you don't have any active services. Seems like if you don't have an existing Telstra ID you will need to add a plan, though.

          • -3

@aussie-bargainz: Absolutely rubbish, show us your receipt stating this! Stop spreading lies as it definitely forces you to select a service, even through the app. I tried and tried and even contacted support to get this on a pre paid sim plan, not an option whatsoever!!

        • Looks like you need to attach it to a plan. I am getting this error,

"To make this purchase, you need to have a Telstra plan. To continue, please add a plan to this order."

          • +5

@nirco11: I just bought one with my Telstra account, no plan.

            https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/999091370071425114/…

            • @StrayfireX: Anyone can post a picture of their cart, how about provide a picture of the receipt stating this purchase without the plan????

              • @BatmanAU: Just did mine 2 weeks ago without a plan, select outright or repayments. I do have have plan with Telstra already, but I don't need to get a new plan just to buy it outright.

          • @nirco11: I spoke to a Telstra support person about that error, which I was also getting.

I was told I needed an active post-paid plan for the website to process the transaction, but that I could get the deal in-store without an active post-paid plan.

    • +1

I managed to buy one with my telstra acc that only has a prepaid phone attached to it

Had trouble last time and ended up getting one through JB price match but worked this time.

    • I've also just bought one without a plan, though I do have an account with no current services. The initial page says you need a plan but if you scroll down and hit next you can complete an order without a plan. I've just received the dispatch advice also, so all good.

      • What kind of personal details did they require you to input online? Is it only driver's licence/id like how people are getting it in-store?

        • Yes, just driver licence.

  • +9

For those that have Telstra Plus points lying around from the recent deals, they've now updated the price on there to be 5,400 Points + $984.

No active service required to order like on the main Telstra store.

    • +2

If you have more Telstra Plus points, use them to lower the price further.

Do bear in mind that the Telstra Plus store has a different stock level (reward store stock, rather than standard online store stock) and you get a slightly weird payment detail record (it's not a standard Telstra invoice).

    • Very annoying that midnight black 128GB is showing oos in reward store

      • yeah, a shame you can't backorder from the reward store.

    • Thanks @doweyy used points to buy my wife a Pink 128GB iPhone 13 for $960 with redeeming points. If there were other colours available I would've got an iPhone 13 too but went with Pixel 6 Pro for $960 with redeeming points. Able to pay both on 12 month payments ($80/month) without a phone plan, but had to do to credit check both times.

  • Telstra doesnt have iphone 13 mini?

    • +3

Telstra has them, but Telstra doesn't need to discount them (yet) since there will be no iPhone 14 mini. The clearance for 13 and 13 Pro are most likely due to upcoming release of iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max.

  • Can you claim a GST refund via TRF on this invoice from Telstra?

    • +1

Yes if it is a tax invoice (i.e. has the words 'tax invoice' and the ABN and the price) and has your name and address on it

      • Thanks, wondering if anyone can confirm what kind of invoice we get from Telstra when we buy an outright phone. Does it say Tax Invoice on it?

        • +2

Yes, it does have 'Tax Invoice' printed. This is from my recent iPhone purchase from trlstra day.

          • +1

            @wesker: Yep second that.

            • @truetypezk: does the tax invoice have name on it? I am ordering for my dad who is travelling so TRS would want to see his name on invoice or no name.

              • @JohnyEnglish: Yes, it should have name of the person who is travelling (for $1000+ invoice)

    • +2

I think the address bit is no longer required. See https://www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/touris…

get a valid paper tax invoice in English with:
your name (and only your name) as it appears in your passport if the invoice is $1,000 or more

  • +1

All the JB Hi-Fi chat agents I tried gave the same template response. I don't think price-matching is a possibility this time around.

    • they price matched last time on 7/7. how interesting

  • Is the Pro worth it at 450 more?

    • +1

Depends on whether you think you'll use the extra telephoto camera, enjoy 120Hz screen refresh and a slightly increased battery life. You also get LiDAR capability with the pro. I rarely upgrade and enjoy taking photos so it was worth it to me.
      More differences here: https://www.tomsguide.com/news/iphone-13-vs-iphone-13-pro-al…

      • +1

Thanks - looked up examples of the telephoto and don't think it's worth the extra for me. Went for 13 :)

    • +4

Last year, for sure, it is worth $450 more. Right now, it is not as clear cut due to iPhone 14 Pro coming up.

      • With A16 alone probably not enticing enough, Apple plans to increase the camera megapixel count on 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max. Also, there is a strong likelihood 13 Pro lenses will be added to iPhone 14, 14 Plus (but without the telephoto lens). So, are you okay with that?
      • The 120Hz screen certainly is nice, but then people are speculating always on support on 14 Pro, Pro Max.

It is still a bit of guess work now, if Apple really tries to separate the standard and Pro range even further in 14 series, will you be happy with 13 Pro now?

  • Got rejected at pricematch on jb chat.

  • Called Officeworks they said they can beat but they do not have any stock of Iphone 13 :( didn't check for other models.

  • Sorry for the possible repetitive, tedious Q -

I purchase the phone using my MyTelstra account - yes?

I can then put any sim in the device? mvno, optus, voda??

    Thanks for any help

    • Yes and yes.

If you have sufficient Telstra Plus points, try to purchase from Telstra Plus store, but the stock level is most likely even more limited.

    • It is Unlocked.

    • I believe Australian iPhones haven't been locked in a very long time.

      • Yes not for at least the last 5 years

        • Ok, thank you all for the info.

  • do they do trade in in Telstra?

  • If buying from Telstra do they credit check you??

    • +1

If purchased with a Postpaid plan, then most likely Telstra will run a credit check. Outright or from Telstra Plus store (which is also outright), no.

  • no luck with Jb online chat

  • +6

already pick up from goodguys ,price match with telstra,
using disscount gift card~~~ lovely day~

    • Do you have a receipt you could share by chance? Cheers

  • most are on backorder now :-(

    • Does it tell you before you hit Buy button?

      • yes

        • Not for me.
Said in stock when I added it to cart.
Didn't say anything even after order submitted.
After awhile an SMS arrived saying it's out of stock and now placed in back order
Few hours later another SMS saying thank you for your payment, here's your receipt.

How can they charge me when they don't have stock?

    • Is the estimate accurate 2-4 weeks?

  • Had 6k spare Telstra points knocking about that I was never going to use so just got the Pro Max for $1584 without the need to buy a plan. Happy days!

  • +1

Called my local JBs and both said no to price matching.

    • Try the good guys? One OZBer reported he got a price match.

      • I have a $999 JB voucher. Refund for reutrning my Google Pixel 6.

    • Update: called another JB, they can price match the $350 off, but need to sign up to a Telstra Plan as well. They suggested the $69 12 month plan that comes with $400 voucher that can be used towards the phone. The only one they had was IP13 256, so:

$1169 (Telstra price) - $400 (plan voucher) = $769 outright. Plan works out to be ~$35pm after discount.

      • Unless you really need an iPhone with 256GB right now, it doesn't sound like a good deal. iPhone 14 is coming up, even if it retains A15 CPU, it will most likely have 1 extra GPU core and better cameras.

There is no doubt FOMO is a big factor for people getting this. So, the price really needs to be worthwhile. Anyone with decent amount of Telstra Plus points can get these iPhone 13/Pro/Pro Max for even lower.

        • My local jbhifi will do the telstra offer through their system and adds a 47$ prepaid sim to do it, so no point really…

        • +1

It's not really fomo, it's more a decision whether the usual incremental annual improvements will be worth the $350-400 (or more) price difference vs getting the current gen IP13.

          • +1

@jigna27: It's fomo. We all know it is a bad time to buy iPhone 13 now so we are using the heavy price discount to justify it. Also, we always use discounted price vs RRP (even though if we were to use the 10% discount on Apple cards we collected, we can at least lower that RRP by 10%). More importantly, we magically need a new phone now because if we also waited a year, Telstra could offer a similar deal for iPhone 14 next year.

iPhone 13 128GB $999 is still expensive. We are also forcing our brain to think this is a $350 discount, despite retailers already dropped the price so Apple RRP doesn't really apply in reality. Assuming iPhone 14 has the same price, an OZBer should be able to get it for $1214. So, we are talking about $215 ($1214-$999). Honestly, if you don't have Telstra Plus to offset this $999 price even further, the deal is okay, but not that great. Telstra did this same deal 1 month ago.

The real fear is can Telstra pull the same stunt they did with iPhone 11 Telstra Day deals. Will Telstra lower this even further after iPhone 14 is released? Apple will most likely move iPhone 13 to cashback eligible later on and if they throw in some black Friday deals on this later this year, they could be even more enticing.

            • @netsurfer: Do you work for apple? I just want to know the source of your pricing?

              • +1

                @TomGum: It's in the comment:

Assuming iPhone 14 has the same price

                and then subtracting this:

even though if we were to use the 10% discount on Apple cards we collected, we can at least lower that RRP by 10%

                So 1349 - 10% = $1214

            • +3

@netsurfer: I'm already telling you my thought process, but you're not accepting it so you do you.

          • +1

@jigna27: Absolutely. This is a decision we made well before this offer. We saw no value proposition with the iPhone 14 based on what is known.

There is no FOMO if the decision is based on a valued assessment of what is on offer. The minor increments in tech from the 13 to the 14 is a pointless exercise for most.

Could the offer be better at the next Telstra Day, perhaps but $350 off works for us, all things considered.

We have a few hundred thousand points but we have paid for those points, they aren't magically free ;)

We bought outright using this offer. No FOMO whatsoever.

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • Cheers OP, had no dramas price-matching an iPhone 13 in-store at JB. Apparently it was the last of their stock too!

    • Which store did you go to?

      • JB Hi-Fi Castle Towers (NSW)

  • Does anyone know if it's possible to order a phone in one person's name via another person's Telstra ID?

    • ID check is required as part of the checkout, so I don't think you can.

    • I ordered a phone delivered to my mum (with her name and address for delivery) using my Telstra account as part of a previous deal no problem.

  • +5

I just bought a 13 pro 128GB from a Telstra shop, in Liverpool NSW using my Boost mobile prepaid account. Those who has no Telstra account can still buy using Boost account. I don't know about other MVNO like Aldi mobile.
