Hisense 55" U8G TV $995 + Delivery ($0 to Selected Cities/ SYD C&C) @ Appliance Central

100

This is the Australian model, so it doesn't have HDMI 2.1 and apparently there are a bunch of other things that make it inferior to the US version.

Honestly, I don't know anything about TVs and don't play video games so can't comment. Seems a decent price though…

    Full specs here:

Has 4x HDMI inputs that appear to be HDMI 2.0 and can do 4K 60Hz with VRR so not great for PS5/Series X gaming.

55" Sony X85J Refurb can be had for an extra $20 or so with Plus sale currently

  • Is AU spec exactly the same as US spec now?

    • +1

      Unfortunately not for this model.

    • no, just skip Hisense model last year and this year, boooooo

    • If only. I nearly bought one based on the incredible reviews, before thankfully finding out that they are entirely different tv's.

  • I am waiting for the LG OLED deals, but is this any good??

    • I have the U80G, it is very good. I know it's not exactly the same model, but it is based on the same technology.

    • It will be a while before you get a LG OLED for under $2k.

This is a very different TV and technology. For $1k it is pretty good, though the smartTV functions are not the best based on reviews. Easily fixed with an alternative like a ChromecastGTV, Firestick or AppleTV.

Be wary of Hisense, its the little things which will screw you over in the end.

Our hisense has no direct 7, 9 or 10 apps for on demand, the sbs and abc on demand aps differ greatly from the on demand aps on your phone (i.e. less shows), and you cannot cast from an iphone to hisense.

So for example, to watch 7+ for the comm games, the best thing to do was plug in a laptop with a HDMI cable, shithouse really.

Googlt TV dongle will fix this

  • If hisense is not good in terms of app
I read someone made comment on TCL TV deal that they are crap due to operating system. Same goes for Toshiba.
Then what are the remaining options. Lg or samsung.
    Everybody has their own opinion.

    • Wondering if someone can comment on the latest C835 series?

With Google TV and the QDLED panel from Samsung, plus the 144hz refresh rate and 1000+ dimming zones, the reviews seem quite positive some even claimed the colour accuracy is better than the big 3.

      • Hisense turned to shit when they started manufacturing their own panels. Buy a TCL and stay well away from this deceiving brand.

  • I paid 1095 about 9m ago. Its a stunning screen but yeah, the OS isnt brilliant. As a multimedia monitor its gorgeous. 1080/1440 VRR gaming, 4k60HDR movies. In theory it should be able to stream 4k120 from a local server but havent set that up.

    • Would getting a chromecast etc. improve the OS experience? (As someone who doesn't watch or own a tv, buying one for the new home as a multimedia monitor with TV for my partner who only watches free-to-air)

Yes a CCWGTV or better still Shield TV or Apple TVwould definitely improve the experience
