  • if only the same deal on the forerunner 955….
    waiting….

    • +2

Unfortunately you could be waiting a while. It took over a year to see a significant price drop in the 945 which is the previous gen model. You may be able to snag one with 20% off (although if your a bupa member that offer is available all the time) sooner but anything more than that I reckon it will be well in to next year

      • +1

yeah i have bupa. i may end up going that route

        • It’s currently $799 so with the discount your getting close $500 which for a top line watch is an awesome price and you get to use the watch now instead of waiting 6-12 months 😀

    • +1

I've had the 955 Solar for a couple of weeks now and really like it - I'm appreciating it being lighter and less obtrusive than my Fenix 6 (Sapphire), and the really accurate GPS is great.

I don't have Bupa membership. I stopped looking at the outright price and paid full price at Rebel - but got 10% off via a gift card and CashRewards had 14% cashback (confirmed). So my total was $949 - $94.90 - $120.78 = $733.32. I'm guess I'm saying sometimes we need to look beyond the asking price and work out what can be achieved.

  • Might try this after my samsung watch carks

    • +3

Very different experience to a Samsung watch, very sports focussed smart watch

      • I only really use my for notifications for messenger and texting and calls, steps, the odd exercise

Would the notifications be similar, do you know?

        • Basically anything that is set up on you phone as a notification will come through to the watch (if you set it up that way). However you can’t interact with the notifications. This is for iPhone btw. Android is a slightly different experience.

          • +1

@Dazzman55: Is there a way to prevent others from reading my notifications on the Fenix?

This works well on mu Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, but I have found a way to do it on the Garmin - everyone can easily read everything on the massive 6X Saphire screen. And no, I don't want to turn off the notifications.

Because of this, I hardly wear my Fenix.

            • +2

@elektron: There is a privacy setting so that notifications are shown on the watch but it’s content is not displayed unless you press start button or perform a gesture motion.

              • +1

@Dazzman55: Thanks - that's exactly what I was after, but haven't been able to find it. Will have another go.

        • Similar, you can reply to messages with pre set / custom replies

No microphone or speaker, so you can only choose to answer / reject calls on your handset or headset

        • +2

If you use voice recognition to reply to messages, then no, it's not the same experience. Aside from that, I was really surprised that the fenix scratched all my smartwatch itches after moving from a Ticwatch, and the batter lasts a week or more.

        • The Fenix seems a bit overkill for those needs, even if half price.

Actually, possibly worse than overkill as it may not really do what you want.

Even though all Garmins, including the lower end models, can address steps and the odd exercise easily, none of the Garmins approach smart watch features in terms of messenger, texting and calls as far as I know. For example, my Foreunner 45S ($150, on sale) allows me to receive notifications for calls and messages, and provide preset replies, but I don't think the Fenix does any more than that.

      • Very outdoors sports focused to be specific.

    • +3

Battery lasts forever which will be a welcome change

    • See that is what I intended to do. But ended up buying a replacement battery on eBay for $20 and DIY battery replacement. I was hoping secretly I would have screwed it up and then would have got a Garmin. Oh well.

    Great deal.

Do you guys know if the warranty will be valid?
Also are usually deals on the 6s pro? I have been watching for months. the 6X is too big

    • Sold through the Amazon AU Garmin store so should be the standard 12 month Australian warranty.

I've found Garmin's warranty support to be excellent

      • +1

It's through Amazon UK I think. I read somewhere that Garmin int'l warranties are tricky

        • Would be interesting to see. It's sold on the AU store and listed on the AU Garmin Amazon store. But there's no statement about warranty on the listing page.

          • +2

@uzz30: Previously bought a Garmin while in the UK and Garmin AU would not touch it under warranty. Ended up getting it fixed by Garmin USA whilst on a work trip.

  • +1

    Awesome product, love mine!

  • +2

wait for garmin fenix 7 deal. Thanks OP!

    • +5

Cheers, might be a bit of a long wait for the release of a fenix 8

  • +1

Anyone know if this watch can answer calls?

    • -2

No, it can't even pick up the phone.

(no, there's no speaker and mic :)

    • +1

Yes it can answer. When a call comes in there's a notification and the option to answer / reject.

However, there is no microphone and speaker, so if you answer you'll be talking on your handset or headset.

      • +1

It’s sorta handy. I’ve been known to answer my phone on the watch when the phone is in another room and then I’ve shouted out “hang on” as I’m running to get to the phone 😂😂

      • +2

Very useful for screening calls when I'm out for a run and listening to music on headphones

    • +1

You can accept the call, but it goes directly to you phone (no microphone or speakers).

  • Anyone know if the maps work here?

    • +2

Yes. Works world wide. Dynamically loaded through your paired phone, can also be pre-loaded via the app when you get off the grid.

  • +1

Got the sapphire version from JB a couple of months ago for $629 which was a steal at the time. You could slap screen protector on this one and have a similar result.

  • +1

I've been waiting for a deal on the 6X, got one. Thanks OP!

  • +2

Need those kfc sized wrists for this one

  • +2

I picked up a Fenix 6 Pro on ebay recently for $260 delivered. I really like the watch. The 6X Pro is the bigger battery and screen and possibly other stuff too version I believe.

    • Geez that's really good
Guessing it was a one off?

  • Why dont the other Garmin models ever go on sale. These Fenix models are too overkill for what I need.

    • Both the Instinct and Vivoactive series goes on sale regularly, and their price point drops on quite an appreciable scale.
Have even seen the Veno series drop in price markedly

      • Just quickly searching in OzB, the last time there was a Venu/Vivoactive post was back in November. wouldnt really consider that regular.

        • Which Venu and Vivoactive?

Vivoactive 4 seems to be on sale right now, plus the price does fluctuate regularly.

          Same as Venu

Just because there may have not been a post on OzBargain, I wouldn't say there have been no sales. Although you are right, Black Friday was the steepest drop according to CCC

        • Prime Day had several models on discount, and that was last month.

The Garmin Instinct 2 is going for $427 right now

          • @Magpye: Curious that the Instinct 2 includes Garmin Pay, but no maps other than breadcrumb still. Presumably mapping is more complex than payments, but I know what I would find more useful on isolated trails.

            • +1

@huggsymersh: If they put maps on the mid range models, no one would buy top tier :D

              • @Magpye: True true.

For all we know they all have the same SOC/CPU or whatever, and the firmware just unlocks features based on model.

  • +1

Cheers - I procrastinated too long during the Prime Day deals and missed out @ $534. Great deal & price. Cheers mate.

  • If you are bilingual, you must check if the watch supports the language that you intend to use. Friend of mine is korean who bought this watch in Sydney last year, noticed that all korean txt messages are shown as “?”. Disappointing for a ~$1000 smart watch in 2021.
FYI - I bought the watch from him and it works great for me. Love the battery life compared to my old Apple Watch

  • Welcome to 2019

    • Said nobody, when Apple released iPhone SE 2.

  • Says $765.00 now.

    1 item left… lol.

  • +2

I snagged the 6X Sapphire version during the Click Frenzy period for $566. I am fairly happy with it considering the price I paid, but I do miss the lighter Forerunner 245 that I gave to my partner. I upgraded for the better battery life, but the trade off in weight is significant. I would recommend ordering a cheap nylon strap from Aliexpress asap because I find Garmin silicone straps irritate my skin and it's difficult to get the watch to remain stable on the wrist.

  • Back in stock at the low price, yippee!

  • Anyone actually get theirs or a tracking # ? My order is still active, but the pending payment has disappeard today ??
