The uncommon term for arguably the most important person on early sailing ships was the “Ballaster”.
Responsible for loading the ship in such a way that she would stay upright, they became legendary in port and at sea.
This wine is a tribute to the hard work, love and dedication of our mother Marie Shaw, who has kept the Shaw Family Vintners’ ship steady since she and Richard planted their first vines in McLaren Vale in 1976.
Fittingly, great Cabernet Sauvignons display beautiful balance and this is the best example we make.
Selected from 65 year old McLaren Vale vines, we matured this wine in French Oak hogsheads for two years.

Tasting Notes
Cherry and mint aromas, along with chocolate oak abound, carrying through to the full round palate, finishing with smooth velvety tannins.
It's one to add balance and grace to your cellar for seven to ten years, perhaps even longer.

      I would be biased if I reviewed this wine, but we do offer free returns.
      If you are not happy with the wine, we will collect the remaining bottles from your residence and either issue a refund or a replacement.

      For $25 a bottle I decided to give it a go. I like cork screw bottles as they make the wine look more prestigious which is always good for a gift worst case.

    I bought some of these from Elion (Skye) a while ago, and although not value at $100, I really enjoyed the wine and think it represents good value at $25.. it also comes in a hefty bottle and beautifully packaged in a case of 3 bottles (boxed individually in each carton).

    Everything seems good except being export quality. I have experienced, export wine to be either really good or up to 15% mixed with other wine affecting the quality of the wine. Furthermore, sometimes, these wines are not kept properly, which can affect the quality of the wine as well.

      This wine was stored in perfect conditions at the winery.

    It costs to sign up to Skye Cellars? Most other wine sites are free, or give you sign on credit

      Sign up fees is a marketing ploy: it is assumed that you pay a fee then you buy more often to justify the fee. Costco is a prime example but Skye Cellars by no any means Costco.

      Keep in mind that many China export oriented wineries quite often have overpriced RRP. Shaw Family has another range, RMS, with the exact same wine description but at half RRP.

      We use Australia Post or Hunter Express (Depending On the area of Delivery).
      Normally they both send tracking emails.
      Sometimes Hunter Express Doesn't send tracking emails when they have Staff/Delivery Drivers isolating from Covid as they can't accurately predict the delivery day then.
      In short, Yes, they normally do.
