    What is an artisan?
An artisan is someone that works with their hands to create unique, functional and/or decorative items using traditional techniques.

Who wouldnt pay to mix with people like that - especially on a stand!

    • Shouldn't it be a hand mixer then, rather than a stand mixer?

  • Note, appears that the KSM160 is superseded by the KSM195 (also on sale, slight cosmetic updates)

    • anything else besides cosmetics or what is bundled ?

KSM160 no white ones left ….. might need to find other deal or bundle, like idea of easy chip repairs as white is easy colour to match.

Before buying a KitchenAid mixer, consider the alternatives from other brands. I found the KitchenAids to be lacking in a few aspects. Like the weak 300W motor will struggle with heavy dough. Similarly priced alternatives often come with 1000W+ motors.

And then there’s the lack of basic features on the KitchenAid. No scale, no timer - both of which are commonly found in other models. Oh and the accessories are cheaper and higher quality elsewhere too.

    • Link(s) to other models?

Think you can't compare the KitchenAid power to the kenwoods due to the way the motor/drive works.

      • Care to elaborate?

    • +3

The motors are apples to oranges. The electrical power does not equate to mechanical power, where the 300w KitchenAid will have more mechanical force and speed than some 1000w based motors.

Congratulations, you may have just found a way to break the law of conservation of energy.

Or maybe you haven’t. The mechanical output of any motor equates the wattage that goes in, minus any heat that is given off (from friction, electrical resistance etc.). It’s absurd to believe that the 300 Watt motor of the Kitchenaid could magically outperform a 1000 Watt motor of another mixer. And practice shows that the Kitchenaid is underpowered. Try filling the bowl with some yeast dough and see what happens.

        • Hehehe. Good one. I guess op copied the anology from car engines where same CC can generate different powers (rotary vs ring) etc.

I really doubt my 1500w hair dryer could spin the arm of a mixer. As I said, apples to oranges. It's about the gearing and torque application not just electrical draw.

          • -3

@Mums Poop Sock: Your hir dryer used much of the wattage on its heating element. The rest goes into turning the fan really fast to produce a good output of hot air.

Given the right gearing, it would certainly be able to drive a mixer.

Not sure why we’re having this argument. Do you really believe that a KitchenAid Motor can do the same work with a mere 300W while others use 1000W?

            • +1

@maxbon: As someone with a 300W kitchen aid AND a 1000W Kenwood, yes. The kitchenaid is not 70% less powerful, it seems to be more powerful. It's not about how much power you have it's what you do with it.

  • Great price, great mixer.

    Stack with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/718211

Lots of work though, I bought 25 x $20 gift cards, then redeemed them all into a single $500 ebay gift card to pay it off. (NOTE: do not redeem ebay GC in multiple small denomination since there is a limit of 5 GC per transaction, I think). Received $40 in cash back.

  • thanks op.ordered one for wife's birthday. :)

  • Ordered one for wife's birthday as well! But I will be using it more :D

  • Lowest I've seen for the 2-bowl model. Had been monitoring it for 2+ years… Finally bought one.
Still showing all six colours available (Contour Matte, Dried Rose, Lavendar Cream, Matte Black, Milkshake, Onyx Black).
Don't forget cashback. I decided against using gift cards as SB cashback could be invalidated.
Price after 10% cashback from SB on appliances category would come down to $462.39 :) Sweet…
