  • Can it be hacked to 5 bay just like f4-220?

  • +1

Discount expired plus from the reviews I wouldn't be purchasing

discount still valid if you add the coupon/voucher

      • Just noticed the coupon, post wasn't clear you had to use the coupon

  • Specs are really good for the price, but I'm not too sure, anyone got any experience with this brand?

    • +1

I had to return mine. Wouldn't read the hard drives for half of the bays properly. One bay wouldn't close. Even had some disks saying I needed to format them when they were already completely populated with storage. USB connection was slower than everything on my PC. Would not recommend. The company even asked me to test certain things with my hard drives in the NAS. As if to use me as a guinea pig. No chance I'd risk my 10tb and 14tb drives to help them out.

    • I've been running one for a year or so, but put truenas on it. No dramas

  • Looks like you can get xpenology on it (albeit having to manually select USB boot as boot order is locked) https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/44468-boot-order-locked-in…

    • Yes you can, i did but quite a few things stop working, like the lights and power button (does nothing while on).
I ended up buying a real synology a few years later because of all the quirks and wouldn't go back now.

I bought the 4 bay el-povo version on Prime day for $287.. works fine for what it is, for me I am just using it as a backup NAS. The cheap version I got has 1GB RAM, worse processor and only gigabit NIC. I would get about 85-90mb/s copying to it. The software is basic, but there is no way I could build anything close for the money

  • I've got the 5 disk version that I use as fast networked storage. For that purpose, it's been great.

I have 4x12TB set up as Raid5 and from memory I'm getting 500-600MB/s read via the 10gbe port. Can't remember what the write speed was.

    • I wonder in which scenario you need this high speed?
      Thanks

        Video editing
File storage and backup of media
        Plenty

        • So you connect your PC/laptop to the NAS using a 10Gbps ethernet cable?

          • +1

@Averell: I work in media (edit / colour) so need the speed and capacity.

Yes, I connect my imac directly to the NAS via 10Gbps. I also connect the Nas to my 1Gbps switch so I can access it via my laptop.

  • Can it run Plex server?

    • Yes, but not great for supporting multiple people. Also you will want to upgrade the RAM.

I ordered the 4 Bay version last year. Absolute garbage. Was using it only for file storage and none of the other features and it was so terrible I returned it.

just fork out the extra for synology bros

    • nah

      • you lose hombre

  • Worth having a 2nd look at TerraMaster now TOS5 is released? https://nascompares.com/2022/06/28/terramaster-tos-5-softwar…

    • can just install the synology software with xpenology

      • I have the F5-221, tried installing DSM 6 with xpenology the whole day yesterday, after a few attempts but still couldn’t get it to work :(

      • I had a bit of a read about xpenology, seems like a lot of stuffing around. I just want something to work out of the box this time around.
