Best Bang for Buck Mobile for $500

I have an aging Xiaomi Pocofone F1. It's served me well. Currently theres dust collecting behind one of the volume buttons and suffers from phantom screen presses at times.

I can claim $500 on a new phone via work. So whats a good reliable favourite these days ? I probably prefer 256GB, maybe NFC, screen thats bright enough to view under sunlight would be a bonus.

At this stage Ive noticed the following at Kogan Xiaomi Poco X4 Pro 8GB/256GB @ $551 & MI 10 Lite 8gb/265gb @ $489.

thinking if I should stick with Xiaomi or actually go to more mainstream brand. prefer android.

thanks in advance.

Samsung A53 hands down. Great all round phone with everything you could need.

    Samsung A73 5G for $506 but only 128gb

  • Does it have to be brand new? Jump on eBay and look for a used iPhone or Pixel. I got a 3A Pixel last year for $199 and it was in terrific condition.

Sorry dude but I'm sure OP doesn't want old out of warranty phones with shagged batteries

      • I'm typing on a used eBay phone and the battery is damn near immaculate. Why so snobby?

        • Not a snob the only thing that worries me is the battery capacity (be interesting what yours is) and also no warranty, my partner bought an A condition iPhone 7 on ebay was great until it auto updated to the latest iOS and bricked itself and because it was from Japan apple wouldn't touch it. If he's got the money he might as well buy new with warranty and a new battery that's all

          • @solidussnake: Work is paying up to $500 so probably better to buy a new one. I'm actually into electronics and can repair things down to SMD level with my microscope. have fixed a few friends iphones etc. Current Pixel 6a has caught my eye - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/720872 would only be $100 out of pocket. Worth getting this or going down Samsung route ?

            • @Dr Techno: Depends what screen size you want 6.1" 60hz vs 6.5" 90hz, battery size is a big difference (a53) and also camera will be better (pixel) so entirely up to you mate.

I would go Samsung personally for the battery and also the 90hz screen, pixel will struggle to do 24hours

    • cheers awesome specs but not sure if my OCD will go into overdrive with a refurb phone. i guess will list down specs of all phones to weigh them up against each other.
