One of the thumbnails show Bauhn on the remote

  • Anyone comment on previous aldi tv's.

Clearly not going to be best but is at least decent?

    • +15

We inherited a 65 inch Bauhn when we got our house (previous owners left it attached to the wall). I hooked it up to an Nvidia Shield so I don't use the TV's menus etc. The picture is ok but the sound is terrible, can barely make out what people are saying - if you're going for one I'd recommend a soundbar…. or permanent subtitles… or old black and white movies where there is only a piano playing in the background and no talking.

      • +5

        the sound is terrible

        Same on all flat screens.

        • +1

My C1 oled it's actually pretty decent but that's on a 77" so room for bigger speakers I guess

          • +1

@solidussnake: C2 here and I'd say the sound is marginal

            • +1

@troyww: I only use the tv speakers atm as I have a 5 week old but usually use my receiver and big speakers, but I find it good enough for the news and stuff staying up late

        • +1

Some of the newer TVs have OK sound (and are even slimmer). Samsung have 4.2.2 70W in the QN95B I have (have Q990B soundbar with it as well but have tested TV only sound).

I also have an older LG GX which sounds very good for how thin it is. But again, it's 60W vs 16W.

      • +2

One of my friends got a Aldi 55in TV recently and the experience is exactly as described above. Video quality is good but Audio is a total disappointment. Considering the price mark, he didn't return it but instead bought a sound bar. Happy days!

    • Have a 55" for years runnings well. Not as colourful as better options, but its 75". You get what you paid.

Anyone comment on previous aldi tv's.

Yes, they can be very dangerous…

      • +3

how is your wife doing after that accident?

    • +1

Bought a 65" two years ago and it has been good. Average picture quality, vastly improved with tinkering around with the picture settings (setting colour temperature to "warm" made a huge difference). Crap sound but I already knew that - paired with $50 Sony soundbar from Gumtree

      Would buy again

    • We bought a 55" and it lasted 4 years. Was mostly adequate until it stopped powering on recently.

    • My parents have a giant Aldi Bauhn TV (I think 82-inch?) and apart from the sound being total garbage they love it!

Sound easily sorted with a soundbar.

    • I have a 75" from two years back. I find it to be quite good. A few minor problems with it: the remote is finicky, and has to be aimed at just the right spot. Firmware apparently had some issues on some peoples devices, causing them to brick when applied via OTA but I think that's been resolved or ignored long enough it does matter.

Audio is acceptable by tv standards, but definitely worth getting external speakers. And while the quality is sharp there's ghosting during certain scenes (panning across a green cricket ground its very noticeable).

    • +1

I got the recent 55" QLED.
      It's really nice.
The picture quality is better than the LG 42" it replaced.
Need a sound bar for sure though.
I'm using a CCGTV on it and I can't get the remote configured to the TV, like the power and volume on the CCGTV. I had no problems doing this with the LG.

    • I've been using a 65" for three years now, permanently plugged into a PC.

Works great, picture quality is meh when browsing the web, there are obvious dim patches where the backlight isn't as bright, but when gaming or watching TV/Movies it's hardly noticeable. The ghosting isn't bad at all, and being able to play 4k60fps games on this budget has been incredible.

Main issue I've had is that there is no 5.1 out of the TV, so for the playstation I'm out of luck, but for the PC I have 5.1 coming straight out of that with the old 3.5 to RCA method.

If you just want to use it as a TV like plug it in and away you go, I'd pass.

    • Bought the 2nd edition of their 65 inch about 6 years ago for $699, has survived four removals unscathed (Bathurst Canberra Wollongong}, great picture. YMMV.

      • Ha. Does that even fit on the trolley?

can we camp infront of aldi store just like apple fanboi style?

    • had to do it to get a heat pump dryer a few weeks back… got there an hour before it opened thinking I'd be front spot and I was like 15 people back! Managed to snag one though.

    • no one is stopping you if you do.

  • any can say about this TV? good quality?

    • +6

What you pay is what you get. Just make sure your TV is placed away from the window and the room is not too bright. And use a fireTV stick when consuming content.

    • worse case return within 50 days

      • +2

return a big TV like this is a pain the bum

        • +1

Agree. If it arrives home with a crack… Suuucks

          • +5

            @chinaman: a crack in the bum??that's normal

    • +2

I see some bauhn TVs being throw out the curb once in a while.

      positives of this TV are
-cheap price for the size of this screen (75") compared to other well known brands
      -60 days returns

      negatives
-don't expect any long term warranty e.g. ACL. or that they have parts for repairs…
-speakers sound quality is crap compared to well known brand TVs.
-software/UI is crap compared to the well known brands.

      • yeah no thanks

      • 60days, then its usually the manufacturer. I succeeded the ACL route with their Xfinity/Ferex drill.

I CC'd ALDI into the email to get the supplier moving, called out all the correct ACL clauses. I basically said the 5yr warranty was worthless as i'd been waiting 6mths on the drill replacement and i'd be claiming for the entire set due to their inability to provide repair or parts in "reasonable time"

The problem is, a lot of dipsh*ts throw around "ACL", or "ACCC" or "A Current Affairs" without actually knowing the correct clauses and statutory guarantees.

        • ACL is crap when it comes to aldi suppliers?

many of those suppliers don't know about ACL, or fake not knowing etc..

Warranty in regards to ACL is crap when it comes to Aldi products.

ACL is fully laid out on the website
which people can quote to them, but the aldi suppliers often don't care they just say "sorry it is out of warranty etc"

At least with big name manufactures e.g. Samsung, LG etc.. they might fear ACCC or fair trading looking to an ACL dispute more
than these aldi suppliers (which are smaller companies)

  • I don't have much faith in Aldi TV now. My last Aldi tv only lasted for 2 months. The only good thing is they do a full refunds.

    • That's good enough. You get to use the TV for free for 2 months..

  • +4

If I see one complaint about the WebOS or onboard TV functionality on an $800 75" TV……….

    • +6

      'not 200Hz' 'not oled'

      • +2

        HDMI 2.1?

    • lmao no 3D?

    • Can't believe in this day and age it doesn't even come with a flux capacitor for $800 :(

  • +3

I never recommend generic / small brand TVs but if you like this deal make sure to slap a Roku / FireStick / Chromecast Google TV / Apple TV on it.

So you never have to use the TV's menus and can just use your streaming device's remote, apps and features.

    • but you still need the tv menu for watching free to air channels, right ?

      • Stream FTA TV

      • +2

It's 2022, WHO does that anymore?

        • its 2022 and WHO still talking about covid

    • +2

And also, be sure to disconnect your native TV OS wifi, so that it cannot update. The updates tend to make things worse.

      • +1

Correct. I have a Samsung 4K TV and you can't get rid of the annoying ads in the main menu unless you disconnect from Wi-Fi. Also, you'll find that the TV itself uses far too much Wi-Fi even in standby which is suspect af.

  • +3

I have an ALDI 60" from a year ago and it's an incredible TV for the price (think it was $500). One thing is the WebOS on Bauhn seems to be a cutdown version found on an LG TV - lots of apps missing from the app store. But it has all the main Aussie streaming apps, and actually loads quite quickly compared to some modern Smart TVs.

Also the 'Magic Remote' that this TV comes with is one of the better remotes I've used. Even has a pointer function like an old Nintendo Wii.

  • +1

This is for People like me who cant afford SONY $4000

    • tlc man

    • +2

You can do a hell of a lot better with a <$1500 Sony. Or, like, a used one you know.

    • I prefer Palsonic, or Sanyo

    • TCL is a nice sweet spot

    • +4

Pfft. I know a genuine Panaphonics when I see it. And look, there's Magnetbox and Sorny!

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guck4FoWQss

      • Surely you want the Carnivalé?

    • tcl is your choice

  • This is a big tv, pity about the specs, having shifted to OLED everything now looks washed out.
    Kind of wish i didn't

    • sell it, or donate it.

Eventually you will get used to the new low quality TVs.

Else you will not get any enjoyment of any other TVs (not OLED) you may have in your house.
Or you will need to fill the entire house with OLEDs which will be very costly.

There's also QLED or QD-OLED and microLED etc,

which TV OLED model do you own?
and how many you got including any non OLED?

      • Have 1 panasonic oled
        And a tcl QLED

The Oled just blows the qled out of the park admittedly they are different price points

        • do you have the actual model numbers/code?

Can you tell me how the quality differs between OLED and QLED?

What do you think of the of the QD-OLED and microLED?

If you have a game with a HUD on all the time etc on the OLED
          will it cause burn in?

The microLED suppose to have same benefits as OLED without the negatives..
Also is QD-OLED look better than OLED?

  • webOS ?? how's that like ??

    • Hopefully same like the LG TVs if it does not have any aldi changes made to it.

you can install webOS apps etc..
but it is not as good as apps/games on google play store (which would be better)
if get one those android/google TV devices e.g. Google chromecast with Google TV etc.

Same price as the EKO 75" WebOS TV at BigW:

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/eko-75-4k-ultra-hd-smart-web…

Wouldn't be surprised if these came from the same factory, just a different sticker on the front.

[edit] looks like they come with different remotes. Aldi one looks better

    • How is the Remote Control response times on the Eko?
      And the CPU times?

If the Polaroid is anything to go buy… its terrible.

Ive had the ALDI 75" for 18 months now, been very surprised how good it is.
      No sound Bar needed
Picture is good, not fantastic, but good and better than i expected.

I bought the ALDI 75" with full intentions of returning it after 2 months, but its surprised me enough, that it is now the daily driver in my house.

      • I use it with a media pc and sound bar so can't comment on menus or sound. Picture quality is fine. Was better than my Sony TV when I bought it (Sony was 4 years old at that point)

  • $10 for every inch… Selling themselves short

    • $10.65 ;) maybe they are happy with the extra 65c.

would the box fit into KIA RIO 3 doors ? (make the back seat flat)

    • +6

Going by this thread, no chance - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/483194

Might be entertaining to turn up at Aldi just to watch people trying to load these TVs into their cars.

    • +1

75" TV doesn't fit between the wheel hubs, and hangs off the back of the tub in a dual cab Ute. These things are huge.

    • The box is roughly 183cm long x 122cm high x 25cm wide and it has to be transported standing up.

I'd doubt it would fit in most SUVs let alone a hatchback. Might need ute/truck/van or maxi-taxi?

      • @rokoz FYI … to my knowledge it does not "have to be" transported standing up. Its just better to. This is because TV are designed for centre of gravity to be towards the bottom .. so if lying down it just increases the risk of damaging the panel in the middle.

If its secure (ie: in the original box / packaging) then the risk is pretty minimal (unless your driving on a unsealed road)

But yeh you're right as this particular box is larger than 90% of SUV's (internals) and no way will fit in a Rio.

    • No chance. I recently found a 65 inch TV on the street and it barely fit my van without the box.

No chance a 75 with a box will fit in a Rio.

  • For those who wonder about the quality on this tv, it's fairly simple to deduct, you get what you pay for. Picture quality is okay, why they call it 4k is beyond me. Sound? You'd need a descent sound bar, not so good on tv.

Hardware quality is average, if you get 2+ years on this tv, consider yourself lucky

    • +11

why they call it 4k is beyond me

because that's the common shorthand for 3840x2160p ?

    • 4K is 3840x2160 which is exactly what you get. What makes TVs better or worse is the technology used to give you those pixels, the contrast, dynamic range, frame rate, etc.

Also every TV's in-built speaker, even the most expensive TV, will be blown out of the water with any entry level soundbar + subwoofer.

Also it's decent, descent is talking about "on the way down" like your descent from the peak of Mount Everest.

Agree, I wouldn't really trust this TV past 2-3 years lol.

  • +2

My father has the 65 inch version of this TV and the picture quality is poor and the sound is average.

If you can afford it buy a better TV, but for the money you can't beat it I guess.

    • Which one? They've been selling 65 inch versions of this for 10 years.

  • Have had one of these for 18 months now
    No Issues
    LG OS

Sadly, not comparable with KAYO Sports App
(Just incase someone is buying for this reason)

  • Get a ug7/8 65 hisense at jb-hi-fi for 988 you'll not regret it, given finding stocks gonna be hard, as there's deals on here in regards to it

  • +1

I have this exact TV from last year, I use it with an Apple TV and the colour is calibrated by the Apple TV, sound is rubbish, I use a sound bar. It's a TV and works for me. I stream everything via the Apple TV including FTA channels. It's not OLED it isn't 200Hz, it's a $799 75" TV. Blacks are average as well.
EDIT: Mine is the 70" version

    • Blacks are average on every single led, despite what people tell you.

If you like blacks, you buy a new OLED or find a plasma. Mine still going strong

      • Blacks are average on every single led, despite what people tell you.

Contrast ratios can vary significantly across LCD panels. I have seen some seriously impressive Sony LCDs before, and even Samsung's QLEDs (which are still just LCD at the end of the day).

The type of backlighting makes a massive difference.

        • I mean I'm sure it makes some difference but if you truly care about it, you go plasma (well, not anymore) or an OLED.

The worst OLED would destroy the best LCD at blacks and that would be the same for the plasmas.
I'd love to cave in and just get a LCD, man are they cheap but I can't do it. Those greys.

  • so no delivery options ?

    • did you try checking their online store?

  • For me I stay away from Aldi's audio & visual items from Bauhn.

Bought a 55" TV for the kids a year or so ago, when I got round to setting it up once their room was refurbished the sound was not great, the picture was ok for the price, menu was sluggish and no smart tv features, I attached a firestick that worked but USB didn't allow it to draw enough power to make it run even though i was rated for it. My main issue it gave off a faint electrical smell, was only on an hour or two a day before bed and switched off overnight, they have smoke alarms but after a few months I never really got comfortable with it, took it out and put it in the garage, where it remains untouched.

Also bought the power adaptor with the changeable plugs to take on holiday, this was decent but the whole batch was missing a uk plug, was replaced when I got back from the UK from aldi customer service.

Kids have asked me for headphones and speakers and stuff when out shopping, I get they are cheapish products but they didn't last long, one kid hardly used them and his stopped working first.

Maybe they have improved over the last year but not for me. I have bought plenty of other Aldi brands of items with no real issue, so i'm not bashing Aldi, shop there most days,

I might have just been very unlucky with this brand. 75" for $800 you get what you pay for as above you can return it, had no issues returning things within warranty period or having been faulty from receipt.

  • $800, not sure what you people expect 🤣🤣🙄

  • These are OEM products from the same manufacturer that makes Polaroid TVs sold at Big W and Linsar TVs from TGG. Expect similar quality.

  • Manual says use LG app to control and lots, and some other LG mention. Is it bauhn from outside LG from inside ??

    • It uses LG's WebOS operating system.
