35min Transit Time in Melbourne

Hey all

I have a flight into Sydney that landed at 3pm and then a connecting flight to Melbourne at 4:30pm. These are both with Qantas on a single ticket.

Qantas has now changed my flight into Sydney to 3:55pm but has kept the connecting flight the same.

Is 35 minutes enough time to go to a different gate? (Still T3) I am unsure how quickly they can unload and reload my luggage.

Thanks

PS I have just checked the Qantas site for what the next flight is- the 4:30pm flight on my ticket does not even exist on their website lol. It is either 4pm or 5pm.

I would say near impossible you'll make that flight unless it happens to land much earlier than expected. Gates close 15 mins before departure and no idea how long you'll be taxiing or waiting for the OK to open doors and disembark etc.

The good news is it's Qantas' responsibility to get you and your luggage to Melbourne so even if do miss it, they'll have to reschedule you.

    • Hmm that is what I thought - Thanks. Have a dinner res at 8:45pm in Melbourne so I will probably call to try get a different flight/dinner time

      • I would definitely look at making alternative plans and not stressing yourself out. If Qantas changed your flight of their own accord then you should be entitled a free change.

  • yes, if you miss, they just put you on next flight, if that doesn't suit your plans you may need to rebook

Where are you flying from? Later in the afternoon on the East Coast is terrible for delays

Highly likely the SYD-MEL leg is delayed so you should have plenty of time. If you miss it, you'll just be put on the next one.

The incoming flight, if it departs on time, usually arrives a bit earlier. (Of course, I ain't guaranteeing anything!)

To walk off one plane and on to another a few gates down in the same terminal? Yes heaps of time assume you have a boarding pass.

As for luggage, well that is up to Qantas to 'sort out', but might be cutting it close considering they can't even do 'luggage' for normal flights!

Isn’t this transit time in Sydney?

(You say flight into Sydney then flight to Melbourne..?)

Either way - one ticket, they’ll move you into next available if you don’t make the connection.

Reckon you will make the connection but I would pack anything essential into my carry on bag. Chances of baggage making connection is minimal

Your best indication would be a flight number on your SYD - MEL flight. Mind sharing it with us?

    • I'll be on QF467 for that flight

      • Last Sunday it departed on time (1630) and arrived in Melbourne 3 minutes early.

        • Interesting how I cannot find that flight for sale on their website. Maybe an additional added to serve all these flight changes?
