  • Started off at $5……then $10 for a flat top then $14…….then I met my old school barber whom charged me $17 for a flat top or fade, he kept the same price for 16 years until he retired. I was forced to look for a new barber, I found one I liked and still go there (until lockdown), $60 for a fade and beard trim.

In lockdown I got myself a top end Wahl clipper and now just do a buzz cut……..

  • Since the covid lockdown my missus has been cutting my hair. Love it as I can dictate her what to do.

    • During lockdowns mine cut mine twice on separate occasions. Turned out.. Pretty well actually - she just watched a youtube vid for basic cuts. Took 2hours but she was being careful I guess.

  • you get what you pay for…
if you're not fussy about your appearance, go cheap.. simples

  • $30 but I got to a hairdresser who I've been going to since 2006 lol. More of a friendship at this point, and she has animals roaming around.. (well, did, unfortunately 3 of her dogs passed recently, still a couple cats roaming). It's her own salon shed at her house. She does the hair wash + scalp massage too though her massage chair has been borked for years XD.

Used to pay $15 back then, now it's $30. Happy to pay for familiarity I guess. Go every ~3months.

$10 every time at the chinky dinks!

  • The cheap chinese barbers at Hurstville. Used to go there pre-covid and it cost $8 per cut. Just dont expect to customise your hair cut too much. It is a high volume, quick service type of place. Some guy posted their price list on google reviews recently and seems like only ladies cut has gone up. Men's still cheap.

  • $0 - since covid/taught me how to buzz myself

  • Skin fade haircut and shaping/trimming/fading beard between $65-$85. It usually takes them about 45min-1h to get it done though.

  • $40 - this is in a proper salon

It was $30 in mid 2017 and went up to $35 in 2018 then $40 in 2019. Should I be expecting another rise soon?

  • $200 to be a competitive entrant to mulletchamp.com

  • Very happy with Wahl Lithium. I use the T Blade to cut my whole head in around 10 mins. Great for a bald cut.

  • $17.50 for a haircut with fade in Melbourne.

Wouldn't pay anything over $20, seems like a scam.

  • hurstville $8 or self trim/cut $0

  • If you're not using clippers, you're not a true ozbargainer. I last paid for a haircut the day before my wedding day… In 1996. True story.

My haircut is dead simple. So I wouldn’t pay more than $20-25 for it. I used to go to a salon that did a hair wash and head massage for + $5 which was so good (i dont have to go home and shower and head massage was so relaxing and all for additional $5 was no brainer).

  • $20÷ 5 years.

  • Barbers have priced themselves out. I used to pay $25 and it used to hurt everytime.

Got used to cutting my own hair using cordless clippers during Covid. Now it’s $0 and I am never going back unless it’s $15.

  • I just cut my own hair once every 3~4 months or if there's a formal occasion.

I tell you what this post desperately needs- Photos.

If you’re DIY or paying less than $10 for a haircut, let OZB decide if it’s good value or not.

I suspect it’s a case of good from far, far from good.

Then again, if you have a buzz cut, I don’t see the need to pay a barber.

    • I bet anyone paying 40+ for a haircut doesn’t look as good as they think…

      • please elaborate?

      • there is truth to this, but it really isn't the price, it is the skill of the barber. i find the cheapest place, and try out all the barbers until i find one that i am satisfied with. if i can't, then i have to go to another barbershop that cost slightly more. glad i found a good barber at $15. the price doesn't determine a good cut, its the skill of the barber.

        • Whats the location of this barbershop

  • I remember in my teens, my younger brother had bought a trimmer and had asked me to help him "clean up", I accidentally gave him a step, he got so mad, he refused to let me touch his hair ever again. I had always received haircut money from my parents so I decided to give it a try, a buzz cut, and what do you know, it looked alright, but I didn't shave the entire head, I left the front spiky. I've been cutting my own hair for over 25 years now and proud of it. I used to live with my BIL and when he noticed I cut my own hair, he started copying, but unlike me, he just shaved the entire head.

  • my salon increase their price today, from $40 to $45 :(

  • I'm in Thailand..$8 yesterday $6 3 weeks ago
Almost worth the flight cost 🙂

In all seriousness I cut my own these days I have expensive Wahl clippers and trimmers and have perfected the skill enough to be able to do mine and the kids for free

    • Thailand has the best service

  • I found a new barber 5 years ago, and i visit him every 2 weeks. i pay $15. new customers pay about $20-$25 though.
i think he locks in my rate since i visit him so frequently. i get a size 1 on the sides and medium length on top. he also straight razor my edges.

  • 20 to 35? that's almost a doubling of the prices. I suggest you call ACCC and let all hairdessers reflect on their billing policies.

    /s

  • Can't complain; wife spent $310 on a hair cut this week. I almost died! At least my spending of that amount process me with something material!

  • Was in 2017, on Macquarie st behind centenary square in Parramatta, used to pay $10 for express cut. It would go down to $8 in the evening and in the quiet hours.

  • a lot of middle aged men are balding so it’s $0.. but i have mine so it’s $40 every 6 weeks

  • It all depends … I Voted $20 - as that is cost of usual place I go to (a standard short back&sides + trim on top) … here in WA.

Saying that, there is a men's barber located in same shops as my IGA … they only charge $15 for standard men's haircuts.

You then have other end of spectrum … several "specialist men's stylists" - targeting the $45 range … but they will also include in that price … beard trim + exfoliating facial scrub + moisturising lotion on cheeks.

  • My barber shop charged $20, and refused to go to them again now because the guy electric razored my back neck and I bled, he didn't say sorry or anything.

Last barber charged me $25 in a shopping centre in Bankstown when I was casually shopping with a friend and thought I pop in.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $25, cause all I get is an undercut, no fade.

Some trendy barber in west Syd charged me $45 as I was feeling trendy and out of my bubble. It was your trendy barber instagram aesthetics, I showed him what hair cut I want from their instagram and replicate it as I knew it wasn't too far from my hair now, it was a slight change. My hair ended up looking the same as any other barber would cut it…… I was disappointed as I looked the same. I even grew out my hair for it.

    Anyways, $20 - $25 is my range.

  • $10 at the shopping centre kiosk barber

  • Spotted $17 in riverwood , belmore road shops
