Yep, you are right, it isn't the cheapest, let me give you a cheaper one.

Google Nest Doorbell is $248 at Bing Lee and you can also get the 2 pack of cams for $489 from there too.

    • Nice catch. Personally, I'd rather pay retail than ever deal with Bing Lee again. Good luck getting help if you need a warranty. But to each their own.

      • Wouldn't the warranty claim back to the manufacturer?

Even cheaper @ Optus Smart Spaces: $230 for doorbell and $433 for 2 pack of cams.

        Now that's a deal worth posting :)

        • Just used the Optus deal to price match at Officeworks and got one for $218.50

Nest cam 2-pack is also $495 at the google store with free shipping and 10% credit if you're a Google One subscriber…

    • You can sign up for google 1 for a month and then drop it after getting the 10% off.

  • How is it compared to other doorbell cams? I’ve read there’s always that 10-20s delay when someone pushes the button.

Can't comment on the actual doorbell function as i don't think it's every actually been rung, but I really like the on-device detection - ie, person, package, vehicle, animal and the ability to fine tune what notifications i do or don't want. Also the picture is portrait mode, not landscape…. so i can see right down to the bottom of the door easily (hope that makes sense)

    • Sometimes in early evening it seems to take 10sec. Other times during the day only 1-2s. My main gripe is that you can't locally access the stream, have to go through convoluted google SDK to get any kind of access. Even then, the battery model can't 24/7 stream even if you connect it to the 16VA adapter -.-
Overall I like it as a doorbell (integrates well with android) but for any kind of surveillance you're better off with something else, even a generic doorbell with RTSP feed.

The lag differs between wired and battery connections. So if you are planning to use as battery for bell be prepared for lag.

  • Does anyone know if there are non official solar panels for the battery cam?
