Which edition is worth playing? Would you recommend it?

      • +16

I never beat the game but GOTY has much more value. Includes both expansions which adds heaps of hours into a game already filled to the brim with content.

        I'd recommend picking up GOTY.

      • +4

Whatever you choose, the save file from the regular edition cannot be transferred to the GOTY edition.

        • On console. On oc you can do what you want. Because pc master race.

      • +4

GOTY. Some games you can um and uh about the DLC. The witcher DLC is both superb and of great duration. 100% worth double the price

      • +1

GOTY. Best game I've played for decades, played it three times in a row.

      • Get the GOTY edition. The expansions are amazing!

  • +13

Please only get the GOTY, the expansions are well worth it

It's still 7.99?! Thats too expensive!
Joke aside. its a great game. definitely worth the investment. great story, great action play, great atmopshere

  • +1

I have played this through twice. If you haven't played this, amazing game!

  • +5

I cannot believe its 2022 and there are STILL people who dont have this in their library (Steam, gog or otherwise) , let alone haven't played it.

Finished it a few times on pc and twice on switch.

    • +2

I don't have it, I'm not as much into fantasy, more sci fi, but everyone raves about it, so at this price might be worth me getting…

      • +3

        bro its $7.99 - you can't even get a meal a decent meal at macas/kfc/hj for that…
        100% worth

Play it for an hour, already got moneys worth out of it haha

        • +1

Pile of shame is far too large.

I wanted to start from the beginning with the first game but just couldn't get stuck in. Maybe I'll try with no 2.

          • +3

@Caped Baldy: nah skip 1 and 2 imo

you can jump straight into 3 without any real background in 1 and 2, and just read the wiki if you care about the backstory.

the only thing you need to know is

keira metz > the rest HAHA

          • @Caped Baldy: I've played the 3rd and it's my favourite game. The first two games are unbearable to me though.

      • +6

They rave for a reason. It's got an unbelievable amount of great content; there are hundreds of sidequests, all fully voice acted and often go beyond simple fetch quests (although there are plenty of them too). The combat is a little janky but fun once you get the hang of it. The game opens up pretty quickly and once it does you have complete freedom to do whatever you want.

Gwent, the in game card game, is more fun than the main game. Start collecting cards immediately, even if you don't think you're interested.

Definitely get the GOTY edition, each expansion is massive and worth playing (eg new map and dozens of quests), and if you buy the base game and later decide to upgrade to GOTY, you can't transfer your save.

It took me a while to play this as I wanted to play them in order. Started #1 in 2016 and even as dated as that was, I couldn't stop until I finished 3. Great game but I would get the GOTY for the extra (incredible) expansions too!

    • +1

Me too. I forced myself through 1 and currently playing 2. Was hoping for the HD update to come out before I tackle 3

      • Once I got into the swing of 1 I really loved it, it took me longer to get into 2 honestly. Enjoy 3 when you get to it, I thought it was pretty great.

  • Free HD upgrade still coming right?

Toss a coin to buy Witcher 3?

GOTY Witcher 3 75 TRY via Epic store turkey (~ A$5.90)

    • Would you VPN this and it can play normally with no VPN once purchased?

      • only need VPN during registration and no VPN required for purchases and game play

    • Since my account is in Australia, epic doesn't let me purchase in TRY

      • +1

you need to create new account with VPN to Turkey

  • So I replayed Witcher 1 a couple times (Second time was to get myself back into the story so I could play 2)… Then I couldn't really start 2. I don't know if I can tbh lol.

I have it on both PS4(5) and PC.. I kinda want a couch-style experience for it though.

Firstly - PC VS Console for Witcher? Any benefits using a M+KB?

Secondly - can I skip Witcher 2 entirely and play 3? Will I lose out on important references etc. Or more just 'ohhhh that aligns with this..' rather than scratch-head moments I won't understand.

    • +1

W2 has much better controls and combat vs W1, better graphics, acting, audio too. if you really wanna skip it but don't want to miss out on story before going for W3, just watch some W2 story cutscene vid on youtube. something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSvYe28_hdY

    • +1

You can definitely skip it. I couldn't remember a damn thing about W2 by the time I started W3, it doesn't matter because they expect you to be new to the series (the vast majority of players are). You'll only miss out on a handful of references from W2, like a couple of lines of dialogue that change depending on who you sided with in that game. Really, really doesn't matter.

KB+M works great, you can rebind your keys and don't have to use the radial menu to switch signs, bombs etc.

But If you want a couch-style experience and able to hook your PC up to your big screen then you could use a controller and install a 'instant sign casting' mod, so you don't need to use radial menu (seriously this should have been default).

You've played W1 twice? Dude, you may as well play 2 then. It's fantastic. Once you get past the initial prologue siege (where most people quit) you're in for a treat.

      • Ha in fairness the original I played twice a few years apart. I do recall the first playthrough was filled with crashes…

Yeah I dunno. I find it hard to play solo games on pc anymore haha. Last one was Doom Eternal!

Could definitely hook up the pc to the TV. Or use Nvidia gamestream as well (both pc and Nvidia sheild are gigabit wired so shouldn't be an latency issues)

        Will consider!

(to answer the 'why not use gamestream already then? Question. It's not quite as seamless as I'd hoped for some titles. Sometimes just grabbing a controller and turning on your console is nicer heh)

Still waiting for the PS5 next gen update. Come on CDPR!! Hurry up!!

    • Same, been itching to do a 2nd playthrough on the PS5. Apparently it's slated for Q4 this year, fingers crossed no more delays!!

Best. Game. Ever. GOTY - for sure.

  • +1
  • Please play this! Playing on PC is so much better than on PS4 in every way.

  • This is the $7.80 you don’t want to save - get the GOTY!
