Narrowed down to 4 Demo SUVs, Which One Should I Get?

Budget- 50k (including trade in for around 10k)

MY22 Kia Sportage SX+ FWD (2000kms on the clock, $47,000 drive away including trade in price)
MY22 CX-5 Maxx Sport AWD (3000kms on the clock, $37,900 drive away including trade in price)
MY22 Hyundai Tucson Elite Auto AWD (2000kms on the clock, $41,000 drive away including trade in price)
MY22 Mitsubishi Outlander LS ZM Auto 2WD (10kms on the clock, $43,000 drive away including trade in price)

EDIT- I need a car before 10 Sep 2022 and these were available right away

Poll it away..

Update- Thanks all CX-5 Maxx Sport AWD Did my own research too and I must say CX-5 ticked almost all the boxes for me- reliability, impressive looks, performance, resale value, reasonably big space, comprehensive list of safety equipment as standard, paddle shifters, almost negligible maintenance etc.

  • Save your money and buy a new Camry

    • Can you even get a new Camry before September 10?

    • no availability and used/demo ones are selling at all time high inflated prices.

Based upon a lot of personal experience, I would go for a HiLux if available. Ultra reliable and comfortable, a very handy vehicle.

    • Given that OP is the one to be driving the car its best if OP takes each one for a test drive first and then decides.

But I must agree with the voting that Mazda is the most popular (and probably best) choice

But take all cars for a test drive!!!!

Cars are very much a personal choice,

  • E) BYD Atto
But Tucson is pretty much a clone of the sportage so that'd be my pick
pity about the 5 year warranty though

    • +1 for BYD Atto

    • +3

With the way people are cancelling orders, you'll be able to get one next week at that rate :D

    aren't they CUVs ?

    Mitsubishi Outlander -> CUV
Mitsubishi Pajero Sports -> SUV based on Triton

    • +1

Given the 7 seat capacity of the outlander i wouldn't classify it as compact

      • +1

it is based on the chassis, SUV should be a truck based (good for 4WD), while CUV would be a car based.
anyway it is sad to see how Nissan/Renault killed Mitsubishi :( I think newer Outlander is based on some Renault platform not an original Mitsubishi platform (Lancer based?)

        • Nope. You can’t categorise them like gat any more, they cross over different catergories.

Original SUVs are not 4WD but soft roaders.

        • Outlander is on the same platform as Nissan Xtrail and Renault Koleos. Bit roomier than the Mazda.

  • Is the Hyundai Tucson Elite Auto AWD the 2.0L Diesel? If so, my choice.

If it's the 1.6L petrol turbo with DCT, then my choice would be the CX-5 Maxx Sport AWD.

    • Is the Hyundai Tucson Elite Auto AWD the 2.0L Diesel?

      No it's petrol

      • +2

CX-5 Maxx Sport AWD for me then.

  • What do you need from an SUV? Boot space, ride height, aesthetics?

    • Yes all of those and a good resale value.

      • +1

        a good resale value.

Gonna struggle with that in ~5yrs time with a purely ICE car

        • I am planning to sell within a year or two, going for a hybrid, maybe corolla cross

          • +1

@Zapwap: Then get your order in now for the hybrid

            • @spackbace: yes, did submit an EOI and paid $200 deposit subject to test drive, finance etc. Guy mentioned they have no idea how the SUV will look like or name and prices and he prepared a contract for Corolla and mentioned Cross in front of it.

              • +2

@Zapwap: Pricing is out now, ~$40-52k for hybrid 2WD

                • @spackbace: Any news about when they'll start arriving? My local dealer says that they're having a training session on the Corolla Cross Hybrid on Sept 20th, and they may know more then.

The main thing I would upgrade on my CX-5 if I could would be the boot space. I knew it was smaller than the CRV it replaced but hadn’t figured how much more impractical it would be. i.e. I rarely fill the boot but lots of things that used to fit straight in now have to go sideways or diagonal and generally makes things harder than it should be!

  • Just drive them all, sit in them all, check the features, ALL seats and boot space and lock your favourite. They’ve all got a pretty good reputation and are common enough to be easy to repair and offer good resale.

None of us can answer the questions you need to ask when you look at the cars.

I just went through the process of choosing a new vehicle. Went and sat in the shortlisted options and immediately ruled out 3 due to poor rear seating, specially the centre rear position. The I drove the remainders and ruled out another because I didn’t like the driving position although the seat was comfy enough.

  • Where is the Kia located? I’m interest,

    • +1

      Somewhere in S Korea!

  • Don’t hang around they will likely sell fairly quickly.

If boot space and 2nd row legroom are priority, then avoid Mazdas

If you’re a city/suburban commuter, avoid DCT of Kia/Hyundai. If not DCT, then Hyundai over Kia for the suspension tuning or Kia over Hyundai for 7 year warranty.

Mitsubishi Outlander is a safe bet given its new model, Occasional 7 seater, and 10 Year Warranty & Capped Price Service.

  • ive got 2019 sportage and it’s pretty tight in back seat for 3 ppl and leg room , boot space is pretty crap compared to my brothers honda crv boot n leg room ..drives pretty good n i roughly get 490km out of full tank of city driving …
the new sportage shape looks really nice ..

Thanks all CX-5 Maxx Sport AWD it is!! Bought it yesterday.
