rtings have it as their "Best Mid-Range Bluetooth Speaker" https://www.rtings.com/speaker/reviews/best/by-feature/bluet…

  • What's the resale of these on Marketplace? (worth replacing a 3.5yo in very good condition?)

    • A quick search on Gumtree yields results in the $150-$180 price range for used ones, so yeah, I guess they hold their value pretty well.

    • It depends on the battery conditions more than cosmetics

"that was about 5 years old and no longer held a charge."

my electric toothbrush started showing the same issue this year. After 5years its redundant simply because of irreplaceable battery; motor is fine, replacements heads but whole thing is useless thanks to the battery and dont forget the significant waste and impact on the environment, finances etc.

in search of the electric and portable, we actually end up spending more on things over the years rather than being able to fix things up.

The design of a product to not have any replaceable parts has nothing to do with using renewable energy. What a moronic comment.

If you recycle lithium-ion batteries properly, 95% of the materials can be used to make new batteries.

FYI you can do a aftermarket battery swap on these. Can't remember exact cost but it was <$50 and there was a YouTube tutorial.

Much better than the wonderboom 2?

    • +3

Hugely, megaboom is another level to boom, let alone the wonderboom toys

Always trust your ears for speakers don't rely on others

Not a bad deal but nowhere near as good as this one from a few years ago- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/406700

Every single time… Spewing that I didn't get 2 of the Heineken deals… one for a neighbour of course.

If they hadnt removed the 3.5mm jack and tripod mount the original Megaboom had i would so be on one of these at this price.

Love mine and no issues after good few yrs of solid use, got it at JB for the $124ish deal someone posted here a few yrs ago

    • Yep still going strong…

  • How’s these compared to Anker motion plus?

  • Huge benefit of this is the 360° sound and decent battery life

  • I'm guessing this does not sync with the wonderboom 2 for stereo?

  • Usb c?

    • +4

      Micro usb unfortunately.

      • Ouch for this price usb c would be necessary for me.

I bought one of these for $124 from JB back in 2019. It was a whopper of a bargain for a Megaboom 3!

Its a decent performing speaker but Logitech has done a dodgy and has now purposely made it so that it bluetooth is constantly on, so even if you turn off the unit it still drains it a couple of % a day. So if its sitting idle for a few weeks expect to lose a good chunk of charge when you do need to use it. Its constantly putting wear on the battery by increasing the charge cycles.. planned obsolescence much?

    • At least when I had a megaboom, this was a toggleable option. While it's on the battery drains slowly but you can power on the speaker remotely.

      • Yeap this was an option but they completely removed the Remote On/Off option after an update 3 years ago.

    • i mean I've had that enabled from the start and had the same deal, and mine gets used a few times a week for hrs on end and still lasts fine (i understand there will be a time it doesnt but then i'll just leave it on the dock i got for it, and it will no longer be for out the reach of a usb connection :D

  • I bought two from the last deal and they are amazing if you duplicate but not in stereo mode. In stereo mode it cuts out constantly…kind of want to buy another two…

      Quadruple mono… yeah, baby!

Had never used rtings before and had a quick look at some of the reviews for portable BT speakers.

Such a difficult thing to review on, everyones idea on what makes a nice sounding unit is different.

Some of the unit I am looking at were pretty average due to average bass. They then go on to say that the unit can mostly redeem itself with the EQ options in the app. So in the end what the point of a music score if the EQ can make it flat, V, U etc.

But still a nice site and will take their feedback into consideration.

To be honest, until they discover that there’s an “a” in ratings, I might consider their attention to the finer details a slight downweight to their overall input in my decision making. It’s right up there with my response to the mother-in-law’s advice, probably

    • +1

They rate the sound quality based on a reference metric, it's not someone's opinion like most reviews.

  • have 2 of the original Megabooms and love them. First one is 5 years old and still holds excellent charge.
