  • What is solar fit

    • +3

Feed in tariff. What you get paid for pushing solar back to the grid. Tends to be not much these days from most retailers.

      • Reason is to protect the generators with stranded coal and gas assets. Excess solar between 12 - 2pm when prices go negative I don't see any of the big companies stumping up for batteries to store it and then resell between 5 - 9pm when it is most expensive. Money to be made but it seems like nobody wants to take it.

  • Don't think gas is sold by Energy Australia in QLD

    • +1

outside of the Energex Network in QLD.

      • Energex is the lecky distributor.

There's bugger-all mains gas available in Qld

        • That’s strange, why is that?

So, does this implicitly mean that this offer is only good for the plans which show up by default (flexi plans, at least for me)? That isn't an explicit term, but they have other interesting plans on the site, like the Solar Max (https://www.energyaustralia.com.au/home/electricity-and-gas/…) which at least for my postcode offers peak feed-in tariff of 16.3c/kWh, which is pretty great compared to my current 6.7c.

I have solar and battery which covers our usage totally, other than really cloudy days, so I am not as concerned with the slight bump in purchase price per kWh.

Anyone know if this offer can work with the Solar Max plan?

    • +2

Hmmm… assuming this offer is limited to the Flex plan, this item on the plan overview is worth noting:

Our flat rate and time of use solar feed-in tariffs (FiTs) are under review and may change from 1 September 2022. If this happens new rates can be viewed online from this date. Find out more here.

This cashrewards offer is good until Aug 31, but this implies the rate might change right after anyway, but at least there is a 10 day cooling-off period

    • Terms say "Please select your energy offer from the landing page", so as long as it's on the landing page, I'd say you can choose the solar max plan.

For my postcode, the solar FIT is 10c/kWh up to a maximum of 15kwh/day. Peak sun days I pump over 70kwh back to grid 😭
      Any good battery deals?

      • Yeah, Solar Max is not on the landing page for me, but it is a valid plan for my postcode.

    • +1

Solar max is for average 15kwh per day or less, so maybe winter is fine for vic, but not the summer.

      • ah yeah good point

    • For me they want $1.30/day plus 33c/kWh peak. I’m on Lumo now, just under $1/day and $23c/kWh. I think that $150 bonus might wear away in 6 months.

  • Cashback is ineligible on the following: Returning EA customers for the same premises.

not eligible if you were with EA before?

  • +9

And also be aware that EnergyAustralia is now owned by Hong Hong based CLP Group. You may prefer to keep your electricity money local to Australia.

    Excluding all return customers

  • - Returning EA customers for the same premises;

Well that rules me out - just jumped ship end of June after they posted the increased rates - little did I know everyone would increase rates in July

  • +1

180 days is a long time to forget about it.

  • +3

Although you get $250 back but the rate is extremely expensive

  • +5

Please check the rate vs your current rate before you decide to go ahead

  • +2

How many days do I need to stick with them to get the cashback? Full 180 days?

  • "Switching plans for the same premises"

Am I overthinking it or does that mean even if I am not EA I can't get this as I am not moving premises?

    • I was wondering the same on some of the points- may be the way i'm reading it.

Cashback is ineligible on the following:
"New connections (i.e. no meter installed)"

Does this mean it needs to be a new build/connection?

      Even this
"Cashback is eligible on new EnergyAustralia accounts only including existing EnergyAustralia customers moving into new premises"

Existing customers get it only if you move to a new house

  • +3

    Not worth it for me.

Rates are higher than lumo. Rates are not fixed. According to my excel spreadsheet after 180 days the $150 signup bonus does not cover the extra costs.

  • +1

Daily charges of ele+gas is 30-40c more than my current supplier. Ele rates is about same and gas rates is 30% higher. Not worth it if we have to stay with them for 6-9mths.

    • this is exactly what I found out too

    • Who's your current supplier? asking for a 'friend'

      • +1

AGL for electricity and GloBird for gas

        • +1

I've been with both for electricity but switched to Alinta as they are the cheapest of the 3 in terms of daily charges & tariffs

      • Origin. I'm in Vic. I found the vic government energy compare site is quite useful and no doggy Agents will contact you after the compare. https://services.dffh.vic.gov.au/victorian-energy-compare

  • +1

in WA we are pretty lucky that the state government gives us $600 credit for electricity, and for this year another $400 for electricity.

  • +1

Doesn't seem to be clear how long you need to remain a customer for?

  • Term for cashback ineligible : "Switching plans for the same premises"

Cashback ineligible if we switch from another energy provider? Or does that term meant for existing EnergyAustralia customers?

  • Pls note that according to their website, the solar feed-in may change on 1 Sep, so maybe worth to wait a month to see how it going, which is 7.1c/kwh on Flexi plan:
Our flat rate and time of use solar feed-in tariffs (FiTs) are under review and may change from 1 September 2022. If this happens new rates can be viewed online from this date. Find out more here.

    • For Victoria already communicated it will come back to 5.2c. (at least I got this email)

Because their owners CLP and the Chinese government need as much money as they can to stop the housing crash in China. (might be true)

      • thanks for sharing the info, but at least it's better than most of the electricity company, who have already reduced their FIT to 0.052c/kwh on the first day when the gov reduced their minimum FIT.

  • Eager to sign up on the 'Solar Max' for elec & 'Flex Plan' for gas.
However going through the screens and it won't allow me take up Solar Max, and reverts back to Flexi Plan for elec (as well as gas).
Meaning lower feed in rates for Solar.
    Anyone else getting this?

  • How long does it usually take to track?

  • If someone is getting 44c from government, does whatever solar FIT offered adds on top of that?

    • No. There is people on the old premium feed in. If you get off that you'll be on the few cents like the rest of us.

    • From what I have read I am fairly sure you will get the 44c govt/ FiT plus whatever FiT the retailer is offering. However in some rare cases the retailer doesn't give their FiT if one is on the 44c govt. FiT. An example is AGL. Their FiT is 0 is you are on the 44c govt. FiT.

Chinese owned scum who will rip you off and lie about it at any opportunity.

    DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
