  • Any better over google tv or fire stick?

    • +2

      Nope

Uses Micro-USB instead of USB type C

      Doesn't support HDR10 or HDR10+

      • +1

According to this article it does.

To be fair, you don't exactly expect to plug it in a whole lot, so Micro-USB vs USB-C is meaningless. Lacking HDR10/HDR10+ probably isn't a deal-breaker for most people (although apparently it's disputed, anyway).

If it's a case of 'I want a "Chromecast with Google TV" but only cheaper' then then is probably worth looking at.

This is better over FireStick as Mi-stick has inbuilt Chrome cast, also official Google play store , where FireStick has Amazon App Store.

FireStick 4K is better from Google TV and Mi-Stick as supports WI-FI 6 , also FireStick remote works with Most TV’s

      • But no warranty.

  • What are these things used for? Is this so I can stream anything from the computer to the television?

I've seen things like the nvidia shield. Do you need one of these if you already have a smart television?

    • for non smart tv's

      • +8

For people who know "smart" TVs are actually shit and that decent device is still required (of which the device in this deal isn't one)

      • … or half-smart TVs (like HiSense running Vewd/Opera), and sideloading android apps (Vanced or Stremio anyone?).

    • +1

It runs Google TV operating system, which is more feature-rich than Chromecast. Google TV is an Android-based operating system that already runs on some smart TV's.

Asides from casting content from other devices to your TV, it has a small amount in built storage that you can install Android apps on.

Warranty wise just get google or firestick and it’s also cheaper when it’s on special.

  • if would only be better than google tv if it had 16gb storage, just get google tv

  • Get a firestick 4K max on sale and set it up for retro gaming. It’s the bomb

  • For comparison sake, cheapest I found on Ali of the 1080p version is $20 less.
