CyberGhost 95%, Surfshark 90%, Private Internet Access 95%, NordVPN 97% Cashback (New Customers) @ ShopBack

180

A few cashback offers on VPNs.

I purchased Surfshark, 2 years cost A$90.39 and shopback tracked the cashback amount as A$72.32 which amounts to A$18.07 for 2 years. Pretty decent deal and has India as a virtual location.

EDIT: Upsized cashback expired except PIA which still shows 95%.

My first post so let me know if anything needs to be updated. Cheers

  • Wow very interested, does vpn affect my bandwidth speed? Or how snappy it is ?

    • VPN does slow down speed. It varies from server to server on how much it impacts. For some servers/countries, it is decent enough to stream content. Just testing out surfshark right now though, trying to access Disney+ Hotstar (not working yet). Main benefit is to access geo-blocked content for me.

      • hotsar works through private internet access

        • Which country's Hotstar did you get it working on?

I tried to get Thailand on Nord but doesn't work on their servers.

          • +1

@johnn: India works for me but need indian number which is very annoying. Does thailand work without number verification?

            • @ozbargainerlife1: Nah Thailand also needs phone verification but I had already signed up to an account when I was living in Thailand

      • On my Amazon Fire stick 4K max I am using Surfshark and I am able to connect Hotstar Disney plus without any issues. Amazing picture quality. Chat with surshark and they will ask you to change some settings on the app which will help you to access the app.

        • I will try reaching out to SurfShark support. Hotstar stopping working for me since Surfshark removed servers from India.

          • @karma25: They have removed virtual servers but they are bouncing back Indian ip via Singapore and UK servers. Recently I took Indian Netflix subscription without any issues.

            • @Be Happy: Netflix, discovery etc works fine on Surfshark however Hotstar is not working. Surfshark support asked me to try changing VPN protocols but didn't work.

              • @karma25: Well its working for me on Amazon firestick and on MBP on Hotstar website. Tech support did asked me to turn off or change couple of settings in the app which solved my issue of not connecting to hotstar. But can’t remember what it was. Another trick is to keep chatting with different tech support to the point where an experienced techie solves your issue. ATM watching all MCU’s sequence on Disney plus.

                • +1

@Be Happy: Thanks, Kunal. The third tech support guy asked me to uninstall and reinstall hotstar app while being connected to VPN and that fixed my hotstar.

                  • @karma25: Surfshark is a good VPN. The only issue I faced was while getting YT premium from Argentina. Couldn't do it with surfshark. Someone suggested me to use Tunnelbear which came out to be a successful transaction.

                  • @karma25: I just signed up for surfshark reading all this post but after connecting to India VPN I can't even see hotstar app in my google play store.

I downloaded Netflix and during signup process I keep getting signup with USD monthly fees so no option to get indian subscription.

While for Disney plus when I open the app it simply giving error saying " something went wrong , error code 83"..

                    Any help would be appreciated.

@SydBoy: You cannot see the app because your Google account is based in a different country.
To get a app for my different country, you need to register a new account on Google Play store to be able to access different country.

                      • @WesthamAreMassive: thanks

I tried that on my existing account but in the playstore it doesn't allow me to change country so basically when go to setting, account preference then country button doesn't work so looks like i need to create new gmail account from scratch.

                        • +1

@SydBoy: You can change it only once a year

                          • @WesthamAreMassive: I didn't know that … ! Thank you..

I better off creating new account…so much so for some cheap movies for kids on kids holidays…!

Not sure why there are massive price discrepancies between two countries or why I am not rich enough to buy something from Australia.. :(

@SydBoy: Why India Netflix and not Turkey?

                              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/706375

                              • @WesthamAreMassive: good idea but for Turkey I need to buy gift card and as AUD at the bottom of USD currently it is costing roughly $7.7 to $8/month while using coles gift card for netflix will give me for $9.99 per month so not worth taking risk of paying online and what if it doesn't work after all those hard work :) … it was worth a shot as in past it used to be $5/month while in AUD we get it for $9.99.

i need it for kids holiday only so probably get gift card from coles or woollies

                                thanks for help.

  • Coming to the end of 3 years for about $10 with Surfshark. Doesn't work with some netflix countries so don't think I'll renew.

  • Could anyone please shed some light on which one to grab out of the 3 flavours? (CyberGhost or Surfshark or Private Internet Access) ??

    • None of them. Spend sometime reading about them on https://www.reddit.com/r/VPNTorrents/ and you’ll see why.

      • Ok, but what if it’s your own government you don’t trust with your data? They can access the browsing history of all Australians through their ISP any time they want - having a VPN connected makes their job harder and they’re unlikely to put the hard word on a foreign VPN unless it’s a serious crime…

        • I'm not saying to not use a VPN.

Freeza asked which out of CyberGhost or Surfshark or Private Internet Access. I'm saying none of those VPNs.

    • Nord

  • Why is showing cyberghost subscription in Indian currency?

  • Which one is better for Indian content OTTs? I have NordVpn but it doesn't have indian server anymore.

    • Considering India’s new data laws, no VPN provider even remotely credible will be hosting Indian servers anymore.

    • +1

Use a smart dns proxy to unblock geo-restricted content.

  • Are any of these VPN services any good? I'm currently with Private Internet Access which is expiring in 6 days time and need to choose a new VPN. I'm not really happy with PIA so looking to switch to a different VPN service. Just not sure which one to go with.

Just came to say that it is all a sham. PSA.

Activated my Shopback rewards button, paid and everything went through.
30 days later, I get an email saying that the cashback option can't be processed. By then its too late to reverse it.

Safe to say, I never used Nord nor Shopback anymore. For those who got it, congratulations. For those who want to try it, if you're willing to lose $90 bucks, go right ahead. For those who are thinking of getting a bargain, maybe try something else.

    • so your cashback tracked successfully? but it was rejected around a month later? did they give you a reason why?

    • Same here Shopback is unreliable and despite following every instructions they provided cashback still gets rejected very often. Stick with cheddar or cashrewards.com.au

      • Have you ever tried the mobile app for cashrewards and shopback? I’ve had much better success with the apps.

      • If using Firefox on desktop, it now comes standard with "Enhanced Tracking Protection" enabled. This most likely interferes with cashback tracking. Disable this when using CR/SB on desktop. (its the "Shield" icon left of the address bar.)
        Firefox - Enhanced Tracking Protection

  • Signed up with NordVPN to try it, it showed $91.77 as the price when signing up but $127.19 was charged to my CC so the price is obviously USD but that's certainly not obvious.

97% cashback so I'll see what amount tracks by Shopback, it better be 97% of the AUD amount.

    • +1

$108.73 was the tracked cashback amount out of $127.19 charged to my CC
$8.34 USD was the advertised GST = $12.12
      AUD $127.19 - GST $12.12 = $115.07 eligible for cashback
      97% of $115.07 = $111.61
So I lost $3 somewhere along the line in AUD/USD exchange rate robbery, meh.

Net result 2 year signup + 3 month bonus with 97% cashback was $18.46 for 27 months = 68 cents a month until December 2024, I can live with that.

  • I got charged $115.63 on my 28 degree latitude card that has zero conversation charge.

Cashback tracking at $108.73 even though I put US for zero tax.
