MEGA

This TV was very popular a few weeks back at $499 and now it's down to an even lower $449.10 thanks to the coupon code. I'm sure others who have purchased from the previous deal can share their feedback. Based on the specs below it certainly seems really good value for a 55" 4K Android TV.

Still upvoted this comment from the other post

Nah bro. They're handcrafted in Japan by artisanal engineers and than sold for $499 to compete with Big W

such a crap TV - such a good price

  • Are these the same, better or worst than the tvs sold at Aldi?

    • +12

      They're definitely both TVs

  • +12

I wish they had more dumb TV's. I don't want the manufacture to push 'updates' (ads and slowdowns) to my TV.

    • +1

You can just grab a Chromecast with Google TV and use that instead of the inbuilt Google TV.

      • +4

        I think that's what they're hinting at.

      • +1

I would suggest an ATV or a Shield, but they are both more than half the price of this TV.

      • But should be cheaper without the duplication

Don’t connect it to the internet? 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • +1

Just don’t connect it to the internet.

Neither of my excellent LG OLED or Samsung TVs are connected to the internet because the menus fill up with garbage faster than you can disconnect it again.

    • Sony TV's that use Google TV have a Basic Mode which does just that.

  • This or TCL p725 ?

    • +1

Having seen the demo units of both in my local JB’s, I immediately removed the Toshiba C350K series from contention for a bedroom TV as the colours get very washed out when not viewed from directly in front. Much more pronounced than TCL or HiSense which were my two other “not cheap shite” brands I was looking at. Ended up with a HiSense and FireTV

      • Viewing angles are definitely the biggest Achilles hell of crap TVs.

FYI Hisense manufactures Toshiba TVs, not Toshiba themselves, incase anyone was wondering.

Yeah, Toyota, Honda will be made if not owned by Chinese soon.

      • Toyota and Honda have manufacturing plants in China for over a decade now.

        • Sorry for the wording. I mean electric cars branded in Toyota, but actually Chinese brand. Just like the LED TV situation.

    • yes, but i think they still use the toshiba designs, (at least that is the bull that i was fed) which means these could be a little better than Hisense. < take this with a grain of salt though.

  • Forget it if you are in NSW and not near Tamworth, where the only place with stock..

  • No Stock in Perth and no delivery…

  • From the manual:

    HDMI 2.0 Format
Match the connected device output format. Select Enhanced for devices with output of 4K, 60Hz, 4:4:4, 4:2:2 or 4:2:0, 10 bit and above. (Only available for HDMI mode)

It seems to support 4:4:4, maybe this can be used as a monitor - too bad there is no stock in most places

Purchased in the previous deal, but managed to get it for $490. Last one in stock at local store. Purchased for a teenagers bedroom and works well for that purpose.

Pros: cheap, decent picture, cheap, handles reflections well, cheap, 4K, easy setup, Android out of the box, and cheap.
Cons: $490 worth of brightness, colours gamut and blacks.

    for those considering the Toshiba:

I said it before and I'll say it again, I was looking at purchasing the a95K which is about 10x more than this toshiba, saw the toshiba in store, and as i was kinda of needing to replace my old tv that had a massive fault stripe down the middle(it was light one of the back lights that went though vertically died, but one was still working) , (still somewhat watchable for an ozbargainer) the 65 toshiba was too much of a deal to get, and i gotta say, even though they are chalk and cheese to the a95K (with the a95k being infinitely better), I'm glad i didn't spend 10x the amount, as I'm sure i woudn't have gotten 10x the pleasure from the sony.

I'm very happy with the Toshiba. (though i don't have a better TV to compare it to - so its fine for me, someone with more disconcerting tastes may find it so low quality that it detracts from their viewing pleasure.)

i mean it could die in a couple of years, but for this price for a 4K tv its enough for me at the moment. really does overcome all the short commings of my old 47inch LG.

TLDR; I bought a cheap TV because I don’t really care for a more expensive one.

      • +1

TLDR; 10x the price =/= 10x the enjoyment.
TLDR2; this TV is no where near the quality of better TVs - but price.

  • Just checking, can we use the MEGA code, and Stack with 4% Cashrewards cashback and discounted gift cards.?

    Will it all work?

    • Yes. MEGA is listed on Cashrewards and they have the following term "Cashback is eligible on redemption of gift cards."

  • -1

Is this compatible with the Toshiba Handibook?

  • Hows the viewing angle for this TV?

  • Should mark as out of stock, it’s not available even for delivery

    • Marked as Expired because the code ended at 6am.

  • What a shame the refresh rate is only 60Hz.
This means action or moving shots may 'shadow'.

The 120Hz refresh rate toshiba 55" is twice the price.

A clearance 'special' that's for sure.

  • I bought this TV for my mum and I'm here in front of it now and the picture is aweful.

What do other owners think of the pic?

Watching HD terrestrial and Netflix the picture looks extremely washed out to me.

  • There's 86 upvotes for this deal, surely someone else bought this TV?

Just looking to see other peoples thoughts on the pic quality, to me it's horrendous and I'd like to know if it's just the one I bought or the model itself.

    Anyone?

    • upgrading from a 2012, 47 inch LG, I'm very happy with mine. its a 5-600 dollar TV… nothing wrong with it. doesn't leave me wanting at all.

      • Thanks for your thoughts. I'm comparing it to a $500 50" TCL which I've had for a few years. The TCL is way crisper, better colours and no blotchiness. Maybe it's just the individual TV itself. Toshiba support have offered for me to call when I'm next in front of it which I will.

        • Expectations might be incorrectly set.
          Or
I might also not have high standards.
Besides when i play low quality video. I tend not to have an issue.

I don't have any fantastic tvs to compare against either.
