Pioneer DEH4450BT 200W MP3/CD Tuner JB Hi-Fi Via Westfield $177.10, RRP $299

80

I was searching for a replacement (I have basic requirement, with Bluetooth A2DP, FM, good sound) as the car stereo on my Hyundai Elantra broke down last week.
This is the best priced item I found and I bought it after checking it against ebay, amazon etc.

Note that this price beats even JB Hi-Fi's own online store priced at $248

  • JB Hi-Fi always have 30% of head units and speakers so not much of a bargain.

    • +1

If the OP cant wait till the next JB sale then right now its a bargain for him.

      • Not to mention it's 41% off.

  • Good find!
Im also looking for a basic car stereo with Bluetooth but whats the difference between Bluetooth and Bluetooth A2DP? Is this as cheap as they get?

    • +2

Bluetooth (non-A2DP) can be used for making + receiving calls, A2DP can be used for higher quality stereo audio, e.g. playing music.

      • Ok so if i want to stream music from my mobile or ipod to the stereo id need A2DP?

        • +2

Yes. I nearly got caught out with a catch of the day pioneer stereo. I did some research and ended up buying the JVC kd-r826bt from JB at about the same price. I think the JVC is a better unit from my reading.

        • Thanks for sharing, JVC was indeed on my radar. my criteria was, best device under $200, but did not find any. believe me, one week of silence in the car while driving can really driveyou bonkers ;p, I lost patience i guess, heh

        • Bluetooth isn't audiophile quality, you may be better off putting your music on a USB stick, as a high-quality MP3, and plugging it into the front of the stereo.

One advantage is that this won't flatten your phone battery, but there are also negatives - it will be much harder to choose what track you want to play next, and playlists are probably not possible.

I hear ya Russ but ive got Spotify streaming live to my mobile and i want to wirelessly stream that then to my car stereo.

        • apparently bumpy road also skip the music on USB sticks

        • I bought a jvc kd-526 with included bluetooth adapter for ~$110 about 5 months ago (very cheap should have been like 200), and the sound quality from bluetooth is great! its only what i use with my phone and the sound quality it really good. I got to the point where i had to make sure i had 320kbps music so that the quality was good enough.

  • Any idea what installation costs are?

I bought a similar unit a few months ago, a JVC KD-BTP52. I went to the place I normally get my car serviced and asked them to do it, they charged me $100.

Also, JB have a similar unit with DAB+ tuner, but doesn't mention A2DP, on sale for $148:

This may be a better buy if you don't need A2DP, although it is not a major brand.

      • that's a great price for DAB+ built-in head unit!!!!!!

Good price but I wish one day they would make one that doesn't look like a retarded monkey and would blend in with the surrounding dash on cars. Big simple buttons, no retarded animations, sounds or other idiot things, just a plain radio.

I reckon Apple should get into car audio for that reason.

    • I agree with you about the animations, but I don't think Apple will move into that market. Many currently-available cars have the stereo as a moulded-in part of the dash, and can't be replaced with a generic stereo.

I think more car manufacturers will start to go this way, it's like the cheap-printers-expensive-ink profit model. Car stereos wear out, the car manufacturers want to monetize that.
