    FYI, skittles are laced with a chemical called titanium dioxide, which are shown to be harmful in some animal studies. Although there is no current evidence this chemical is harmful in humans there is a call for it to be removed as a precaution. You have been warned. Let the 💩 talk begin 😁

      Skittles aren't LACED with TiO2. A tiny amount is used in the white lettering.

      Virtually everything is shown to be harmful in animal studies. As you've just said - there is no current evidence the additive is harmful. Further, the amount use in skittles is just trivial.

      By all means don't pretend skittles are healthy - But the sugar is what you should worry about, not the colouring used in dozens of everyday products you consume.

          To lace something is to adulterate it. To use it for its intended purpose - a white pigment - in lettering is not lacing. A printed sheet of paper is not 'laced' with ink.

          I actually have a master's degree in science. Animal studies are usually conducted with worst-case megadoses of substances in order to show that they're not harmful in doses encountered by humans. Many studies use inhalation or dermal exposure (it's used in sunscreen). We do this to better understand all the potential toxicities of a substance. If you were to test the toxicity of simple water, you wouldn't give normal doses, you'd give huge doses to induce water intoxication - yet obviously water is not what we would call toxic or poisonous, with all due respect to Paracelsus. It is only the EEFA that has taken issue, not the governing bodies of other nations, and their issue is simply that they wish to conduct more thorough research before setting a safe intake limit. Given the miniscule amount used in skittles, it's unlikely in the extreme this would affect skittles in any way.

          This is even more silly than refusing to eat Tim Tams because their flavourings contain a trace amount of alcohol, which is a KNOWN carcinogen. Not to mention the KNOWN detrimental health effects of everything else in both products. Dozens of other products use it in vastly higher doses - Toothpaste is an extremely common example.

          In short, this is a non-issue. And for those that take issue anyway, they're virtually assured to be ignorant of far worse issues with their food, or hypocrites for knowing and eating far more toxic substances anyway because they don't have a clickbait story about a scary sounding chemical to activate their well-trained FUD compulsions.

                  Again, they're trying to determine the safe limit. Many products have thousands of times higher dosages. Therefore - for skittles specifically - it's a non-issue at this stage.
