You forgot to bold JB HI-FI

    • +8

Since when does anyone ever read that far into a deal :P Now bold.

      • +1

I've read this far, so at least 2.

        • +1

          3rd here

    Here we go again

  • +2

Hmmm. New iPhone and iDevices being announced next week. About time to load up on JB cards with my Coles MasterCards from the last deal.

    • There's still slots left for the extra 5% back at Shopback challenges, meaning 13% back on JB. (but u can only use TCN to buy Apple GC in JB stores)

    • will it be possible that woolies or coles has the 30* activity be back in September?

  • Does anyone know if you can spend the cinema gift card anywhere else besides the movies ?

Also I’m assuming it’s event or Hoyts?

  • Related? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/720938
Maybe they didn't fully commit to the promo early on.

    • +1

Looks like Target cocked up and now this is the valid deal.

  • +3

It's too much hassle dealing with Gift cards, I bought some Ultimate home cards from BigW, and the staff at jb hi-fi refused to change these to jb hi-fi GCS. I have found dealing with these small gift cards too complex.

    • +1

TCN can easily be converted on their website. But why can't you just use it as is in-store?

      • I’m planning to pre-order iPhone 14. Not sure if I can do this in-store.

        • Right, well you can use TCN to buy Apple cards in JB.

          • +2

@Techie4066: I tried, but the staff at JB didn't allow me to buy any gift cards using an ultimate gift card.

            • +7

@Promistaker: I was able to use an Ultimate gift card to purchase an Apple gift card at JB Hi-Fi a few months ago. I only told the staff member I wanted to use a card as a payment method, and when I swiped the gift card on the EFTPOS terminal, the staff member didn’t even react. If you want to be even more subtle, you can add your Ultimate gift card to a mobile wallet first (assuming it is the Visa variant), then use it from the mobile wallet to pay for a JB Hi-Fi gift card or any other sort of gift card.

Btw, if you really want to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using an Ultimate (Visa) gift card, have you tried the JB Hi-Fi website? It may or may not work. Keep in mind that the one item you’re officially not allowed to purchase at JB Hi-Fi using Ultimate or TCN gift cards is JB Hi-Fi gift cards…

              • +2

@WookieMonster: Thanks for the good tips. Adding ultimate to the wallet is an excellent way to use them. I tried online, was able to do two transactions, and then orders started declining; I will contact jb support tomorrow and will see how it goes. The reason behind getting only JB cards is that I already own $800 worth of JB cards; I want to buy $1300 more JB GC so I can buy iPhone Pro Max from them.

              • +4

@WookieMonster: I tried buying JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB website with TCN few months ago. The first transaction was successful and received the GC not long after. Tried again a couple times and the transaction would go through but order subsequently cancelled. Didn't bother calling them to ask.

Maybe their fraud system would alert them that you're using different cards to purchase gift cards. So you might have luck swapping one card on the JB website, but no more than that.

                • @smallstakes54:

Maybe their fraud system would alert them that you're using different cards to purchase gift cards.

                  Agreed

                  • @WookieMonster: Hi mate, i really appreciate you being generous with your time with the tips,

I'm still a little confused, is there anyway you could purchase apple giftcards with the TCN giftcards from target?

                      • @WookieMonster: thanks mate, it sounds like theres no way you can purchase more than $100 of apple giftcards in one transaction using TCN cards?

                        • @ubiquitousnick5: You can ask JB Hi-Fi staff to do split payments so you can use multiple cards to pay for Apple gift cards, but this is at the discretion of staff.

Keep in mind that the maximum denomination of Apple gift cards that JB Hi-Fi sells is $200. If you see a variable load Apple gift card at JB Hi-Fi, that cannot be sold to you, as the variable load Apple gift card does not exist in JB Hi-Fi's sales system.

    • -2

Personally, I find that it easier to just ask Jb Hifi for a 10% discount. I did that few weeks ago and managed to buy a 42 C2 for ~$1900

      • +2

I don't think they will do an instant 10% for an iPhone.

      • A 42" OLED for nearly $2K??

      • +4

Or you can ask for a 10% discount and get an additional 10% to make a 20% discount

        • Or you can get Target gc 2% —> TCN 10% —> ask for 10% discount to make a 22% lol.
Not sure if it works, does anyone know if Target let you buy gift cards with a Target GC?

      • -1

The effort people go to is insane, lucky my best mates brother has worked at HV for 10+ years.

I'd hate to be someone with 50 GC to buy something 🤣

    • +1

Good Guys being unwilling to process more than 2 gift cards per transaction, cost me getting a DJI Mini Fly More Combo for $570.

STILL stuck with 850$ of Good guys credit now because of that crap.

      • +1

That doesn't sound right at all…

        • +3

It sounds right for online transactions, as the TGG website will only let you redeem a maximum of 2 TGG gift cards per transaction. (You can redeem an unlimited number of TGG gift cards instore and possibly over the phone too.)

If you were wondering, the commenter was trying to purchase the drone through the TGG website.

          • @WookieMonster: Oh wow that's annoying.

I'd go in store? Negotiate $$ off and then get the further 10%

I'm assuming you can't do that online ?

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: That assumes you live near a TGG store and can easily access it, and plenty of people in Australia do not!

You can try to negotiate a better deal instore or over the phone, but if you negotiate over the phone, you’ll most likely have to complete the purchase online anyway (just like JB Hi-Fi).

The issue is that the commenter was exchanging $100 and $50 TCN HOME gift cards for $100 and $50 TGG gift cards, so they’ll need to have some insane negotiating skills to get the drone down to a price where they can pay for it online using TGG gift cards!

        • I assure you I did the figures. My total price would have been 570.

Unfortunately they didn't take my multiple cards which I got at a discount, so I missed out.

I was not a happy ozbargainer for a month

      • +1

Only a matter of time before JB implements something along these lines because staff told me they get pretty frustrated with people that come in with huge amounts of gift cards and that actually have to have a staff member handle all those purchases.

Everything that gets abused by people, sooner or later goes.

  • +1

Also just remember you can also use these at JB to buy Apple gift cards.

I did the same last week from the big w ultimate home gift cards as I wanted the qantas points and wanted something from apple.

Wasn’t a bad way to earn 20,000 qantas points

  • Hell yeah. Will do nicely with some of the thicc sales JB has coming up tomorrow.

  • Gotta figure out how much you need to get for the new iphone

  • +1

Is there a limit on how many of these you can use at JB in one transaction?

E.g. if you buy $2300 worth for $2070, can you use the 23 $100 gift cards in one transaction?

    • +2

Someone once redeemed 81 TCN/Ultimate gift cards in one in-store transaction at JB Hi-Fi. I have also seem rumours of (presumably) someone else redeeming 95 TCN gift cards in one in-store transaction at JB Hi-Fi…

In terms of JB Hi-Fi online, you’ll need to exchange these TCN gift cards for JB Hi-Fi gift cards first through the TCN website, as EFTPOS does not allow online transactions. You can redeem as many JB Hi-Fi gift cards as you want in one transaction on the JB Hi-Fi website.

      • You can switch them online? That's pretty handy.

        • +2

You can do that for TCN gift cards (at the moment), but not for Ultimate gift cards.

I will say that there was a one month period late last year where JB Hi-Fi gift cards were removed from TCN's gift cards exchange facility, so JB Hi-Fi would only let you redeem TCN gift cards instore during that period.

    • Yes. I’ve redeemed around 20 gift cards instore once.

  • …. now to find at Target store (NSW) ….

  • IF you exchange these online for JB HIFI cards, what do you actually receive? An email with a barcode or something? How can you use them instore/online.
Also, just to be clear, you cant use these on JB Online without doing the switch?

    • +2

IF you exchange these online for JB HIFI cards, what do you actually receive?

You will receive an email with a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card.

Digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards come with a one-dimensional barcode that you can present to the staff member at the checkout so they can scan and redeem the gift card for you. You can either store this on your phone (I personally use Stocard and it works a treat), or you can print it out and present it to the staff member.

Digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards also come with a gift card number and PIN that you can enter into the gift card section on the JB Hi-Fi website.

you cant use these on JB Online without doing the switch?

That is correct. There is no way you can redeem an EFTPOS gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website (or any website, for that matter), because EFTPOS does not support card-not-present transactions (including online transactions). You can only redeem these TCN gift cards online at JB Hi-Fi if you either:

      • Exchange the TCN gift card for a JB Hi-Fi gift card through the TCN website, or

      • Go into a JB Hi-Fi store and use the TCN gift card to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card (and this option is technically against JB Hi-Fi policy, so you may have staff stopping you from doing this if they pick up on what you’re doing and they actually care about it).

If you instead had the digital version of the TCN HIM gift card or the Visa version of the Ultimate gift card, it would be a different story…

      • +1

        thankyou!

      • Hmm, cant seem to find where on the site you do the switch over……..any help?

        • +1
          • Go to the webpage for the TCN HIM gift card

          • Scroll down to the How To Use section

          • Enter the gift card number into the text box and select Continue

          • Choose the desired participating retailer (i.e. JB Hi-Fi) from the dropdown list

          • Click/tap on the Online button to the right of the box or dropdown list.

          • Click/tap on Proceed

          • Follow the subsequent steps to have the digital gift card emailed to you.

  • About to buy $4000 worth for the next iPhone. Wonder if Target will ask me if I have been on the phone with a fake bank from India?

    • +2

      They probably will.

There are at least two other problems to consider:

      • I don’t know what kind of limitations Target has on the purchase of third-party gift cards (e.g. TCN HIM gift cards). For example, Coles only lets a customer purchase 5 gift cards per visit and requires a supervisor or manager to approve a transaction worth $1,000 or more. Woolworths will let you buy a maximum of 10 gift cards per visit, but some staff can only approve gift card purchases of up to $500, $1,000 or $2,000, and I believe anything over $2,000 requires a store/duty manager to approve. I’d like to think Target has some sort of restrictions too…

      • Good luck finding $4,000 worth of TCN HIM gift cards in stock at a Target store. This promotion has actually been running on TCN HIM gift cards for a few days now, so there is a good chance stock of TCN HIM gift cards has been depleted and has not been replenished. A mate of mine had a look at one Target around lunchtime today and could only find 8x $50 TCN HIM gift cards on the gift card shelf.

      • +1

Ooft. I guess I will get what I can. I live in a semi regional area so hoping that works to my benefit.

      • +1

Update. My local had literally hundreds of these cards. I took 40. Limit was 10 per transaction but had not issues with me doing multiple transactions to get them all. Happy days.

  • Can I buy 10 him gift cards, convert them to 10 jb hifi digital gift cards and then use them online in one transaction?

    • Yes

You can redeem an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website.

  • If I purchase the HIM gift cards and exchange them for the digital JB Hi-FI gift cards, can I use them in-store to purchase Apple gift cards?

    • +2

That is a bit of a grey area.

Honestly, if I were you, i would not exchange the TCN gift cards and just use the TCN gift card to pay for the Apple gift card instore. All you need to do when you go to pay for the Apple gift card is tell the staff you want to use a card (not gift card).

      • +1

Okay, thank you so much for that.

  • How long do these cards take to get activated?
Can I buy them from Target and walk into the JB HiFi right next door and use them?

Or is there like a 48 hour period?

    • Purchased them, use them next door today,no problems.
Had plenty of cards at my local target store
