Saw this at target Hornsby NSW store this morning and bought some gift cards. The discount didn’t scan at checkout and had to go to service desk to get correct price charged. Maybe an upcoming offer and this store has put the sign up too early?

      I would imagine not…same as using a coles egift at coles. They have to be put through as gift card, and you can't buy a gift card with a gift card through their system. Not sure about physical cards as payment though, as they might be able to be entered as card payment, maybe someone else can elaborate. I don't have a Target very close me now, so, not sure.

        U can use coles egc to buy gc at coles(the system allows that), but some staff don’t let u do that. So i am curious about target.

          no, you can't use an egift card at coles to buy a gift card, as it has to be entered as a gift card and so won't let you. If you use a physical coles/myer card, you can pay as a card payment, and that allows it to go through.

            @souths123: I've tested it and used Coles gift cards to buy other gift cards many times. You can't use a Coles groceries gift card

            I bought them via ShopBack and scan it at checkout

              @BargainsGrabber: I thought they had closed that loophole ages ago about using an egift card to buy a gift card?? Woolies have and you can't use any type of gift card to buy a gift card anymore, and haven't for ages. Last time I tried a standard coles egift card, it didn't work to purchase one?? Says that payment method not accepted for that sale. Only the Coles/Myer physical ones do as a card payment, as the egifts, as far as I know, HAVE to be scanned as a gift card. and also the C/M ones can't purchase another denomination of Coles or Myer card, or the Coles Mastercard, but works on everything else as far as I can tell.

      Someone once redeemed 81 TCN/Ultimate gift cards in one in-store transaction at JB Hi-Fi. I have also seem rumours of (presumably) someone else redeeming 95 TCN gift cards in one in-store transaction at JB Hi-Fi…

      The only restriction I have heard in regards to the redemption of TCN (or Ultimate) gift cards at JB Hi-Fi is that you cannot use either to purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards. However, I believe there is nothing in the JB Hi-Fi sales system to stop you from doing this, so it is up to staff to enforce this policy (and not a lot do this). In other words, you can use TCN gift cards at JB Hi-Fi to purchase pretty much everything else (including Apple products, which itself includes Apple gift cards).

      For your second question, the sign in the photo on OP's description indicates the deal should end on 07 Sep 2022. I don't think anyone here has anything else (e.g. a catalogue) that states otherwise…

          Yes (for the moment, anyway).

          Keep in mind that JB Hi-Fi could be removed from the TCN gift card scheme (or change redemption options) at any time. I mention this, because there was about a one month period late last year where you could not exchange a TCN gift card for a JB Hi-Fi gift card through the TCN website, but you could still redeem a TCN gift card in-store at JB Hi-Fi.

          Wrong.

          You cannot directly redeem a TCN gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website (or any participating retailer’s website), because you cannot redeem an EFTPOS gift card online.

          If you want to use TCN gift cards online at JB Hi-Fi, you need to go through the gift card exchange facility on the TCN website first to exchange the TCN gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card. You can redeem an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards online.

            I have used these cards before but was in store only in past but that’s cause it suited me better.
            But I might need to use online this time and reason I ask the questions.

            I think I’m getting mixed up also with ultimate cards etc of recentl which works differently also.

              @bwatt72: You are getting the TCN gift cards mixed up with the Ultimate gift cards.

              • The TCN gift cards in this deal are physical EFTPOS gift cards. You cannot redeem them directly online, so it is a bit strange that TCN have online as a redemption option on their website. If you want to redeem a physical TCN gift card online, you need to exchange the balance for a digital gift card from a participating retailer (assuming they offer this as an option), and you do this through the TCN website.

              • The Ultimate gift cards you see pictured in other gift card deals (e.g. the current Coles deal) are Visa gift cards, so you can redeem a maximum of one online at a participating retailer (assuming a participating retailer accepts them online, and not all do).

              • Some stores (e.g. Coles) are still selling the older EFTPOS version of the Ultimate gift cards. Those can only be redeemed in-store at a small list of participating retailers; there is no exchange facility, no option for a digital version to store on a mobile wallet… These started being phased out 12 months ago, so you'll usually struggle to find a store still stocking these types of gift cards.

              If this is correct then my best option is to convert both to jb hifi card on tcn site and I’m all sorted and can use either in store or online.

              Personally, I would only keep TCN HIM gift cards and not do any exchanges if:

              • I was looking to purchase gift cards in-store at JB Hi-Fi.

              • I was looking to purchase an agency product (e.g. Miele, Asko) at JB Hi-Fi. You cannot purchase agency products using JB Hi-Fi gift cards.

              • I was interested in redeeming a TCN HIM gift card at multiple participating retailers.

              Is this done right away to convert being weekend or does it take a day or two or weekdays.

              It should take a couple of minutes for the gift cards to be emailed to you. I have not done an exchange over a weekend, so I don't know what that is like!

      I don't think JB Hi-Fi has a specific limit on the number (or dollar amount) of TCN/Ultimate gift cards you can redeem in one transaction in-store.

          Yes, but you will need to go through the TCN website to do this.

          • Go to the webpage for the TCN gift card you have (in this case, the HIM card).
          • Scroll down to the How To Use section
          • Choose the desired participating retailer from the dropdown list
          • Click/tap on the Online button to the right of the box or dropdown list (only required for participating retailers that permit TCN gift cards to be redeem in-store as well)
          • Click/tap on Proceed
          • Follow the subsequent steps to have the digital gift card emailed to you.

          Probably not, considering you can use the TCN gift card exchange facility (at the moment, anyway).

          The one item you're officially not allowed to purchase using TCN (or Ultimate) gift cards at JB Hi-Fi is JB Hi-Fi gift cards. However, this is not enforced by the checkout, so if you are served by a staff member who is not aware of this official policy (or they never realise you are using a TCN/Ultimate gift card as a payment method), you can get away with it.

              @nathywathy: You cannot consolidate multiple TCN gift cards into one TCN gift card.

              You cannot exchange multiple TCN gift cards at the same time for one JB Hi-Fi gift card through the TCN website. You can only exchange one TCN gift card for one (or more) JB Hi-Fi gift card through the TCN website.1

              You cannot consolidate multiple JB Hi-Fi gift cards into one through JB Hi-Fi anymore. You used to be able to do that, but that stopped in late 2020.2

              However, if you go into a JB Hi-Fi store and ask to purchase a large-denomination (e.g. $500) JB Hi-Fi gift card, the checkout system will let you use multiple EFTPOS/Visa/Mastercard/AMEX cards as payment methods (including TCN gift cards). However, it is up to staff whether they will allow this. If you only ever tell staff that you want to use EFTPOS cards (and do not mention anything about TCN gift cards), you may be able to get away with it.

              1. For reference, Swap Celebration gift cards are the only multi-retailer gift cards I know of that allows you to exchange multiple multi-retailer gift cards at the same time into one retailer-specific gift card. ↩

              2. I suspect OzBargain had a hand in that due to this deal, where people were trying to think of creative ways to get around JB Hi-Fi's (short-lived) $500 limit on the redemption of TCN gift cards in a single transaction… ↩
