10% Discount on Purchase of OnlyONE Visa Prepaid Home Improvement Gift Cards @ Woolworths

1010

I purchased couple of $25-$500 OnlyONE Home Improvement Visa Cards @ Woolworths (The Hills area NSW) today.
I was expecting to collect 10x Rewards Pts, however they ended up has no points but 10% discount on purchasing.
e.g. two $500 gift cards, and paid $900. No point showed on the terminal after scanning my Reward card.

This is 10% off, compare to 10x Pts, and even 20x Pts collection is a better deal.
I used one card in Bunnings this morning in store.

Previously I used this type of card online in Bunnings website, all went well.

Previous post suggested this Visa card could be used on eBay on purchasing electronics.

The banner on store shelf showed collecting 10x pts, same as the URL link of this week's wooly catalogue.

Take a photo of the banner saying 10x points and then message woolies saying you never got your bonus points. Then you'll have 15% off essentially, lol

    • lol what if they ask you for a copy of the receipt which shows the 10% discount, you might have dobbed yourself one that way

      • +1

Lol they'd be prying that 10% back out of my cold dead hands 😂

        • +2

Looks like someone set the wrong discount type at Woolies.

          • @gadgetguy: need to thanks that guy, 10% off is good… :P

    • Hey all! I just chatted with everyday rewards on live chat and they manually processed the bonus points too. Bought $1000 of gift cards, paid $900, and got 9000 bonus points (worth $45), so netted a 14.5% discount and was able to redeem at Amazon. Points got credited instantly. Thanks again OP

  • +1

OMG, i just bought the bunnings pinnacle racking yesterday at bunnings for full price and this would mean i can save 10% as i spent like $712.

But this also mean i need to return them and then purchase them again….

    • For $71, worth returning and then just buy again at a different store

      • +2

Buy again and return it/them using the old receipt?

        • Yes this is my plan

  • Is there an activation fee?

    • +3

Not for this type(Home Improvement) of OnlyONE Visa. No fee.

  • The Woolies ad pricing lists a 5.95 card fee added to transaction. Are people being charged that? I ask as previous post about 2 $500 cards for$900 doesn't have an amount linked to card fee. Thx

    • +2

Only certain cards attract the fee. This one doesn’t.

  • Any petrol ones available? Quick search says there is one with the same brand but not sure if woolies have them

    • Petrol has an activation charge

      • Still saves $94 on a thousand dollars card

        • Unfortunately the petrol are only $50 or $100 that I’ve seen.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm if they have successfully purchased an electronic item using this on eBay? I’m looking to buy a mobile phone on eBay

    • +2

Yes can buy anything under 500

    • How would the gift card know what you purchase? My question is would it work on anything else on eBay?

      • I could find a small amount of ppl on OzB claiming it works. I would like to know too. Maybe @WookieMonster can confirm?

      • Does that mean it can be used on eBay and could you tell us what did you purchase as a reference thank you

        • Mobile phones, bluetooth speakers, computer accessories, 4G modems, Fire TV etc from BingLee, Big W, and other sellers. Both New and Used.
Think eBay set this kind of card in system. I never met any issue to buy what I want.
But not sure if this would be changed in future.

          • @tramperleo: with your comment it would be worth a try for sure thank you tramperleo much appreciated.

Also someone noted below you can swap these on shopback for ebay giftcards which would avoid any issues with using them as well which i think its a safer way cheers

  • Any list of stores where it can be used?
    Bunnings for sure
    Ikea?

To be used at the following -

‘The OnlyONE Home Improvement DIY & Tradie Gift Card can only be used at the following Visa Merchant Groups: Roofing, Siding, and Sheet Metal Work Contractors (1761), Hardware, Equipment and Supplies (5072) Paint, Varnishes and Supplies (5198), Home Supply Warehouse Stores (5200), Lumber and Building Materials Stores (5211), Glass, Paint, and Wallpaper Stores (5231), Hardware Stores (5251), Floor Covering Stores (5713), Commercial Footwear (5139)’

    Info from https://onlyonegiftcard.com.au/only-one-gift-cards/category-…

    • how can i find out merchant category code?

  • +2

The way the VISA network typically works is that each merchant/seller is assigned a merchant category code that represents the type of goods and services it provides. Each transaction has a merchant category code listed from that assigned merchant profile. This is the merchant category code (merchant group).

Per the only one website for this card, it says that the card will only be accepted for select set of merchant codes

The OnlyONE Home Improvement DIY & Tradie Gift Card can only be used at the following Visa Merchant Groups: Roofing, Siding, and Sheet Metal Work Contractors (1761), Hardware, Equipment and Supplies (5072) Paint, Varnishes and Supplies (5198), Home Supply Warehouse Stores (5200), Lumber and Building Materials Stores (5211), Glass, Paint, and Wallpaper Stores (5231), Hardware Stores (5251), Floor Covering Stores (5713), Commercial Footwear (5139)

So to see if accepted on eBay, can either just give it a go, or contact the seller to ask them for their merchant group/merchant category code they process visa payment under and if it matches the list above

    • +2

Wouldn’t it be dependent on how eBay process the payment and not related to individual sellers?

    • Given eBay covers many kinds of product, would they have many merchant codes?

Is that possible a merchant be assigned multiple codes?

  • +1

Can anyone confirm if this is nationwide - or just a particular store glitch?
I dont want 10 points per dollar LOL

    • Scan it and see before purchasing

      • +1

Worked for me in Melbourne just now.

  • Confirmed working just bought 5K worth

  • +1

    Bought 1k. $100 saved.

  • seems plenty of people have trouble using the cards, even when following the directions correctly.

  • +1

Just returned and re-bought the Ozito battery pack from this deal:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/716021

    Another 10% off :-)

No issues using the card at Bunnings.

  • This is a hot potato of a deal, likely fixed within the hour now that we're frontpage.

    • RBA's rate hike keeps people's money/vote in the bank

  • $2k here

  • +1

Can confirm, i unexpectedly got 10% off last night on one of them, had been expecting 10x rewards points (moorabbin woolworths)

  • Is only one Visa (everywhere card) with 5.95 activation fee $100 one having 10% off too then ?

  • +1

Can I use it in harvey norman?

  • +1

If works on electronics in eBay, then might work on anything else on eBay???

  • +1

Worked with amex special supershopper gift card
    Converted '$115 to $150

  • +3

Still working. Just used Hiver (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/697650) so hopefully another 5% cashback too. Great find OP.

    • Can someone try to use it to purchase jbhifi card?

  • +3

Visa gift card can be used on shopback to buy bunnings gift card. Save extra 1.5% if you are going to use in bunnings.

    • You spilled the beans. Not limited to Bunnings. Do more test.

    • +1

Have you tried any other gift card on shopback?

      • +1

I tried super swap. It's not working. Probably Ikea and ebay more likely to work.

        • And Amazon.

          • +3

@Neoika: Just tried Amazon. It works.

          • @Neoika: Should get more visa gift card.

            • @hohohaha: Cool. Gonna buy another 1K tomorrow and combine with 5% citibank cashback

Wonder if special gift card -> pubcrawler can be used at woolworths. They currently have 10% off

              • @easternculture: thats a good deal to get citibank cashback i wish i had a card or is eligible for hiver

                • @smeng: Just say you have a degree from an Australian university. They don't verify.

                  • @Bdawg: My partner is a nurse but not an Australian citizen do they verify your an citizen ?

And offside I have an degree yes

              • @easternculture: I have the 5% Citibank cashback. Just wondering what you meant by combine with 5% Citibank cashback. I know it works with buying gift cards at Shopback, but is there some kind of stacking you were looking to do?

              • @easternculture: I thought the Citi deal excludes supermarkets?

          • @Neoika: What's the percentage back for amazon? Which card has the best cashback?

            • +1

@gadgetguy: SB has limit on Amazon every month. I have known it working long time ago but do not want to be the 1st person to spill the beans. In addition, more purchases mean less chance to see high bonus promotion from SB.

    • which visa gift card are you referring to? Is this home improvement visa card can be used on shopback?

      • +1

yes, I used home improvement visa gift card on shopback gift card portal. It at least works for Bunnings and Amazon gift card.

        • +1

Worked on an EBay card aswell.

Now I regret not buying more.

    • i just did the same on shopback but shopback bunnings card can only be used once and not multiple times like a normal giftcard? can you confirm as this would be a issue if your not spending the whole amount in one transaction.

edit: i think you can buy bunnings giftcard up to the difference amount and they only return up to $10 in cash is what i understand from reading bunnings giftcard terms and conditions

      • +2

If you cannot use the whole amount on bunnings egift card, you will get physical bunnings gift card and up to $9.95 cash in return.

        • Thank you

        • What can you buy for 5 cents?

      • From memory, Bunnings digital gift card can be used partially. Not 100% sure tho.

Even for a large amount gift card, my local Bunnings can return changes with combination of gift cards + cash.
E.g. $100 physical gift card, charged $5, return back $50, $20x2 gift card and $5 cash.

        • Thank you

  • And again just now (moorabbin woolworths)

Anyone gonna chance pushing for the Woolies points too?

  • Would it work at officeworks?

  • +2

Looks like they’ve fixed the glitch … tried to buy some at my Woolies this morning and the store was unable to apply any value to the cards.

    • omg was going to try at a hardware supplier today and go back to woolworth and buy more zzz

    • Thanks you saved me a trip

    • Was looking to see if this was the case as was heading in today thanks

    • +1

Just bought some 10 minutes ago. It still works when I bought. Did you scan the wrong barcode? You need scan the long barcode, not the short barcode on the top?

    • Actually went to another woollies and it did still work. So now I have $3200 off gift cards for $2880!

      • +1

cheers mate, on my way to woolies now

      • +1

        Ok omw

    • Was this at Woolworths Metro or a regular Woolworths Supermarket?

I tried to purchase a variable denomination gift card about a month ago at a Woolworths Metro, but the checkout only let me load $0.01.

      • +2

Pay in cash for a 100% discount after rounding.

  • Does it work at self check-out?

    • Actually just done it at self check-out. Must remove the tab covering the long barcode and scan it, then requires operator assistance to approve.
      2 x $500 for $900 thank you OP 👍

      • had to get the lady to auth a couple of times. Even she was surprised at the 10% off.

  • Have anyone tried using this at TGG or JB?

    • JB online works, don't know in store.
      TGG didn't test
      Harvey does not work

  • Working in north of Brisbane this morning. 1000 worth for 900. Bonus.

  • Can you use this at harvey norman? Specifically flooring ie hybrid floors and carpets

  • +1

Working in Southern GC, 10% off at self service

  • Worked for me just now in SE Melbourne. Used Hiver for an extra 5% back, and then it'd be rude to not contact woolies after 14 days and say I never got my 10x points lol. Thanks OP

  • +2

Update, was able to buy an Amazon gift card on ShopBack lol

    • Then any gift card would work? Sounds like you’re onto a winner here.

      • Confirmed also, ShopBack Amazon gift cards at 2% CB are working. Limited though to 3 of each denomination
