10% Discount on Purchase of OnlyONE Visa Prepaid Home Improvement Gift Cards @ Woolworths

1010

I purchased couple of $25-$500 OnlyONE Home Improvement Visa Cards @ Woolworths (The Hills area NSW) today.
I was expecting to collect 10x Rewards Pts, however they ended up has no points but 10% discount on purchasing.
e.g. two $500 gift cards, and paid $900. No point showed on the terminal after scanning my Reward card.

This is 10% off, compare to 10x Pts, and even 20x Pts collection is a better deal.
I used one card in Bunnings this morning in store.

Previously I used this type of card online in Bunnings website, all went well.

Previous post suggested this Visa card could be used on eBay on purchasing electronics.

The banner on store shelf showed collecting 10x pts, same as the URL link of this week's wooly catalogue.

      • Bought a target $50 gift card at 2% SB, worked as well.

        • This worked until a couple of days ago. They seemed to have shut down this option.

  • +2

Confirmed working on $2k worth of Home Improvement cards this morning at Coffs Harbour, NSW - approx 0845hrs.

FWIW this is a REALLY great deal - no activation fee and it's nearly impossible to get discounts on Bunnings gift cards etc. Well worth buying quite a few - though bear in mind with inflation running at 7%, holding for several years will likely offset any 'discount'.

ALSO DYOR on whether your CC provider would consider this transaction a 'cash advance' - I've been stung by this before - and gotten a big interest charge from it.

    • +1

Not sure how this could be seen as cash advance by the CC provider. Transaction comes through under “Woolworths” and the CC provider cannot see what items have been purchased.

      • -1

I don't pretend to know the in an outs of merchant facilities but as I stated DYOR - I've been hit for interest before - it went through as a cash advance.

if you're not sure - do nothing - I gave the info and suggestion to TRY and assist others from having same thing happening to them and am going to advance the $2k payment onto my CC now to avoid possibility it could happen again.

I do think it's UNLIKELY folks will get pinged for cash advance charges - it might have been a vendor error or other the one time it happened to me. I've just checked my Citibank CC account and is showing as "WOOLWORTHS 1180 COFFS HARBOUR AUS 1800.00" so no reference to cash advance. Like i said unlikely but happened once to me and could do with others, depends on your card provider and how they ring up at the sale transaction. :-)

I wonder if the other category-restricted OnlyONE Visa gift cards (e.g. Night Out, Spa & Beauty, Fast Food) are also 10% off. I saw a poster in-store yesterday that showed that all category-restricted OnlyONE Visa gift cards are supposed to earn 10x Everyday Rewards points.

I haven't tested it myself, because:

    • I have no need for any of the category-restricted OnlyONE Visa gift cards.

    • One time, I scanned an older Only1 Visa gift card, but the checkout wasn't allocating any Everyday Rewards points. I asked staff if they could get the newer OnlyONE Visa Green gift card, and they got cranky with me, because they said they could no longer sell the Only1 Visa gift card, as I removed the tab covering the barcode, and they cannot sell Only1 Visa gift cards if someone already removed the tab…

    • +1

Strange. I wanted to check that they were 10% off and they were more than happy to open and try it. The girl said it’s worthless without value so don’t worry about it. Luckily they were 10%. Funny how some staff have different ways of doing things.

  • +2

Alright guys, first of all thanks to OP for sharing this hack, but here is the method I have found best for getting any gift card with this deal.

    1. Buy desired amount of gift card from woolworths
    2. Go onto shop back and buy an Amazon gift card and receive an additional 2% cashback
    3. Load your Amazon gift card onto your account and use it to purchase a different gift card, many of the ultimate gift cards work with JB.

Additional bonus, use hiver to claim 5% of your purchase back at woolworths.

If you were to use this method as well as hiver, then you'd be able to get $1000 worth of gift cards for $837, discount of 16.3%

    • You could also just buy the JB HiFi gift cards direct from ShopBack at 3% CB

      • I haven't tried it as I didn't need anything from JB, but if you can then even better!

    • You can purchase gift cards/Ultimate gift cards on amazon?

      • +1

Yep, can buy any gift card using Amazon credit except Amazon ones

    • +1

FYI it seems you can only buy 3 x amazon giftcards for each denomination every month meaning the max you can get is 3 x (100 + 50 + 30 + 10) = $570.

    • +1

I used HSBC to get another 2% cashback

  • +1

Just checked ED Rewards account - no points at all given from transaction, which is very odd as technically the minimum WW gives is 1pt/$ spent instore - and this SHOULD under their terms of the promo be 10pts per $ spent.

I'm going to allow this offer to lapse, so that folks can jump on it - and THEN ensure that I get the appropriate and advertised EDR points - that they sold them at a discount is their issue, not ours. So I'd encourage folks to hold off for a few days and THEn get your owed points as well.

    • +3

You do not earn any Everyday Rewards points on purchases of any gift cards at Woolworths, BIG W, Dan Murphy's, BWS or EG, unless there is a specific promotion running (e.g. this offer, which is supposed to be for 10x bonus Everyday Rewards points).

Everyday Rewards have previously told me that if you do not earn Everyday Rewards points at the checkout for gift cards on promotion, you'll never have them automatically allocated to you, even though the offer terms you'll need to wait 14 business days. If you contact them in a few days from now, you'll likely be told to wait the full 14 business days before they'll look into the issue.

      • +1

Fair enough - regardless my point simply is - make sure you get the point eventually. It's a fair amount of value and is a separate thing from the card's value - which they can't retrospectively alter etc.

        But good info - thanks.

      • Hey @WookieMonster
Seeing as you seem familiar with this - just curious you stated that you do NOT early EDR pts on gc's unless there was a promo? Citing this one as example - which is stated as 10x normal pts.

But wouldn't that imply that normally you'd still earn 1pt /dollar on GCs - as 10x nothing is nothing. And EDR seems to state that it's a mimimum of 1EDR pt/ dollar spent.

I don't buy a lot of GCs from them so just leveraging your expertise. :-)

        • +1

          Nope.

There's a long list of items in the Everyday Rewards T&Cs that will not earn Everyday Rewards points, and it includes purchases of gift cards:

This paragraph … applies to a purchase except to the extent that we advertise differently in the terms and conditions of a specific promotion.

You will not collect Everyday Rewards points on any money you spend on smoking products, gift cards (including Woolworths WISH Gift Cards, e-gift cards and iTunes), Metro60, mobile recharge, Woolworths Mobile, travel cards, tickets, cash outs, delivery charges, donations, Carpet Care, lottery products, Pre-order Kiosks, BIG W Photos, BIG W eBay, lay-bys fees and purchases using a Country Age Pension Fuel Card, a charge account, or purchases on an ineligible AmpolCard account. Call Ampol Customer Service to check AmpolCard eligibility.

My real-world experience is that you will not earn Everyday Rewards points on purchases of gift cards unless there is a specific promotion being run.

Meanwhile, at Coles, you earn 1x standard Flybuys point per $1 you spend on third-party gift cards (i.e. gift cards not issued by Coles Group).

          • @WookieMonster: Ah see I knew you'd know the good info!

Hmmm well that'll be interesting then as like I said if the promo is 10 x normal EDR pts and normal EDR pts is zero…..then it's a very odd promo. SO can only assume the promo is you actually get pts and you get 10 x the minimum rate, which I assume would be based on the transaction value e.g $100 gc - normally no EDR - but you get 100 and then 10x this so 1000.

Would that seem inline with your expectations? Thanks again.

EDIT: Ok these are the terms attached to the 10x EDR offer:

Standard points will not be earned on amount spent on gift cards, but the relevant number of bonus points which you qualify for under this offer.

So the way I construe that is that if you purchase on of these cards as part of your shop, the card itself gives you NO POINTS but it multiplies by 10x the EDR value of the rest of your shop?

Haha why do they have to make it so obtuse, pity the OAPs trying to get to the bottom of what they're getting.

            • +2

              @Daniel Plainview: Nope.

The terms you pulled out from the offer state that you will never earn standard Everyday Rewards points on the purchase of the DIY gift card, but you'll earn 10x bonus Everyday Rewards points for every $1 you spend on the DIY gift card during this promotion. (Well, you're supposed to.)

              • @WookieMonster: :-/ Ok I thought I was confused but now I'm really unsure.

let me put it this way - as I do believe you know your stuff and I freely admit I don't like or follow EDR stuff.

How many EDR points is your understanding that (as an example) a single 1 x $100 DIY gift card under this promo would give to your account in total (normal points + any extras)?

        • Not supposed to get flybuys on giftcards either, but I did when I bought $3000 worth of visa gift cards off at approx 4% discount.

          • @Bdawg: That's different, you do get flybuys on most giftcards even when they're not in promo. The exception are coles myer and the coles giftcard, there might be more that l haven't tested.

  • Do you need to wait the 24 hours to use the card?
The back of the card says attempts to use within 24 hours can make the card invalid.

    • +1

What!? That would be insanity, they just steal your entire value because you tried to spend it prior to an arbitrary time?

    • I’ve instantly used with them SB

    • Update: it worked after around 15 minutes after purchasing.

  • Is it still working?

    • +1

Bought two at ww ashwood vic 10 mins ago. The self service checkout will give warning check price but it works.

    • +1

      yeah just back form WWS

  • +2

FYI - I just bought the Home Improvement card and used it to buy TGG gift cards on ShopBack and it works

    • Yes can confirm this.

  • Anyone tried to use this at Officeworks yet? I rang Only 1 to ask if it would work there but they didn’t know

    • I want to know as well can we buy Coles Myer gift card from Officeworks or Target with this gift card?

  • Deal still alive. Just bought 4 at Crows Nest. The in-store advertising is promoting the cards with the activation fee. I had to hunt around to find any of the Home Improvement cards. Tellers didn't seem to notice the 10% off.

  • +1

Works on Celebration Swap which includes eBay amongst a few clothing stores, Youfoodz, Subway, Deliveroo, Sephora, BBQ Galore, etc.

  • Didn’t seem to work with Pyrmont WWS Metro. Manager tried 3 brand new cards, unable to load value

    • you need the staff to help you load the value

      • No, it's actually a bug in the Woolworths Metro POS system (which is a separate POS system from the one used in Woolworths Supermarkets).

I tried to purchase a variable load gift card from Woolworths Metro about a month ago, but as soon as I scanned the long gift card barcode, the system immediately loaded $0.01. The popup that should come up asking you for the amount you wanted to load never popped up. Staff had no way of changing the amount loaded onto the gift card from $0.01 to something else, because they cannot change the price of gift cards.

        • many WWS promotions exclude Woolworths Metro

          • +1

@RichardF89: … except I was trying to buy a gift card that was not part of any Woolworths promotion at the time, so your comment is irrelevant in this situation.

doesn't work with shopback super swap gift card. and Shopback Amazon gift card have a $300 monthly limit

  • +1

The SB limit on Amazon is ~300-600… how do we use the remaining? Multiple SB accounts?
    Especially for 3k?

    • I only have 1 ShopBack account have to wait for 8 month to use them all

  • Anyone tried cashreward? any luck?

    • For me, it wanted a preauthorisation number when I added it as a payment method. Doesn't show up when I check card balance.

  • Anyone tried a wws WA?

    • yeah works 1 hour ago

  • +1

Just went to a Woolies to get a second batch & they scanned for 500, this may be fixed

  • anyone tried Taget or Kmart to buy coles myer gift card in store?

  • +1

I had a booster of spend $50 in one or more shops for 1000 points. I bought a litre of milk and 2 GCs and it appears the 1000 points bonus has posted. The points are not on the receipt but show in my activity in the app.

  • +1

party is over.. not working in WA

    • Yep 10x points :(

      • +8

I think it is due to that someone contacted CS for 10x bonus pts, which helped EDR team found the wrong setup.

        • +3

          they are too greedy

        • Ffs, we were meant to wait two weeks before contacting them as that is what the promo stated anyway. CS rep would have just said that to them anyway. Glad I was able to go this morning though

          • @nicholasv: Woolworths has spies on here looking for things like this. Used to be able to get unlimited 10% off all giftcards until it got mentioned on here.

            • +1

@JIMB0: I was thinking about this today actually. If I owned a business then I'd definitely have alerts set up to see us sneaky Ozbargainer 😂

    • oh no I was planning to head out to get some soon… snoozed and losed

  • +2

lucky got $1k first thing in the morning. Tried again just now and no cigar

  • Just be careful, noticed at my woolworths a few cards still had the protective tabs on, but you were able to read the activation barcode by slightly bending the packaging. Not sure if it could compromise cards, I'd use it asap

    • you need the activation barcode to top up the credit? so it has to be ripped anyway

    • +1

I cannot see how that specifically would be an issue.

The long barcode is only used when you purchase the gift card from the retailer. It is not used for checking the balance nor for any purchases using that gift card.

A bigger issue would be if someone removed the tab over the long barcode, squeezed it out of the packaging, stuck a different long barcode over the back of the gift card (i.e. for an unactivated gift card that this person was holding onto), inserted the gift card back into the packaging and then took it back to the store for someone else to purchase. I have not seen it happen with OnlyONE Visa gift cards, but…:

  • Trying to buy SuperSwap on Shopback (tried $400 and $500) and both my cards are failing. Any ideas?

    • Buy a store-specific gift card on Shopback (e.g. Amazon, eBay, TGG)

      • +1

Wanted to keep my options open- SuperSwap has all the big names inc Bunnings, ebay, amazon etc.

  • +3

Oh my god, I was going to get $2k after work. NOOOO

  • ah that sucks.. ah well was just gonna save around $10, but $10 is $10.

  • How long have to wait for the card activation?
Can we use it to buy Home Improvement product from Woolworths?
Or card buy card at Woolworths like prepaid master card of Coles.
Where is the Pin of the card?

    • It doesn't have a pin. It looks just like a credit card. I used it 10min after leaving woolies.

    • you have to try. I think this is similar to the Ultimate Gift Cards. you can use it in certain stores but no limit to items

  • Okay who ruined the party..

  • anyone having issues adding the cards to Amazon? Failing on validation.

    • haven't try

    • That means you have added too many cards on sb in a short period. Get a new account instead.

      • all good, was trying directly to buy something on Amazon, misread the initial comments.
        Back to SB..

        • Oh you used the cards directly on Amazon you mean? We are talking about using these cards to buy Amazon GCs on SB.

  • Thanks op I saved $50, should've got more

  • +2

Just tried at Big W in store and it didn't work. Don't have a lot of hope for Kmart/Target/Myer to get Coles/Myer gift cards, but if someone can confirm then that's be great!

    • +1

There is a Swappable card on Shopback that includes BIG W / Kmart / Target. Kids Swap? Maybe have a go? Even if it works, I dont think there is a way to convert it to Wish, Coles Group & Myer or other cash cards.

  • Did anyone who got the 10% discount end up getting their 10x points?

    • +2

I did. But I forgot to scan while I was in store, so my scenario might be different to others.

A few days after buying (after the 10% had stopped working) I contacted the help desk and asked is it possible to provide my rewards membership after the fact. They told me to email my membership number and a scan of my receipt. Points were added a day or two later. Received 10x points against the discounted amount paid.

    • +1

Why was @jon neg'd by someone for asking this? Perfectly reasonable question - AND I came back here specifically to see if anyone HAD gotten this done.

learn the rules and apply some common sense whoever did that. Sadly OzB's voting anonimity encourages anti-social and stupid behaviour.

    • I contacted them after the fact and they manually credited the 10x points.

Shame I only scanned my rewards card for $2k not the $5k lot

  • Did anyone save a screenshot or copy of the original offer?

  • +1

Great to stack with any shopback giftcard promos
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/719445

  • +1

Hey all! I just chatted with everyday rewards on live chat and they manually processed the bonus points too. Bought $1000 of gift cards, paid $900, and got 9000 bonus points (worth $45), so netted a 14.5% discount and was able to redeem at Amazon. Points got credited instantly. Thanks again OP

Anyone wanting Bunnings cards the shopback home swap card works with these for 2.5%
It’s a swap via Prezzee with limited values, there was $50, $100, $150 I can’t remember the others

  • oh cannt buy any gift card in shopback now? what to do with the rest of home cards, can anyone suggest?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Just bought $300 of amazon now to test, worked fine.

Maybe double check the balance of your cards?

      • I see thanks for your information, i have checked them, both with full balance, maybe my sb account has been locked somehow, i will dig it out, thanks a lot again.
