Jackson Browne, Cashrewards, and Ticketmaster...an irresistible bargain [NOT]!!

Just clicked through on a Ticketmaster ad on Facebook for an upcoming outdoor Jackson Browne concert in Perth.
While I hate ticket touts like Ticketmaster, I do very much like Jackson Browne.
"What the hell," I thought, "let's give it a go."
Landed on the Ticketmaster page and, most excellently, my on-board Cash Rewards app kicked in automatically.
Woohoo! There's a Cash Reward discount on Ticketmaster purchases. Lookin' good….
….er, what? Are you freaking kidding me?
The Cash Rewards discount is a flat…20cents. TWENTY freakin' cents. That's not a mis-print. I double, triple checked.
The MINIMUM cost of an outdoor ticket is $129.99. The "fancy" tickets are $149.99.
So, you spend $130, and you are rewarded with TWENTY FREAKIN' CENTS!!
WTF!
Jeez, Ticketmaster really pushed the boat out on that. I'm foaming at the mouth to take up THAT Cash Reward…NOT.
These jokers are just…jokers.
I have no idea how these guys (and their competitors) are allowed to operate legally in this country, when individual ticket touts are often banned.

You realise that just means Ticketmaster give them sfa for affiliate clicks?

    It's not cr's fault

    Shopback gives 15c, a whole 25% less

    So actually cr is generous…

More importantly, what was the final resolution here? you asked for advice, then left…

Sorry, I wasn't actually seeking advice…just venting! Also, I certainly was not having a go at Cash Rewards - and that is not at all the implication of my post. Just ticked off at Ticketmaster. Why bother at all with such an insulting "discount"? They already screw everyone over with ticket prices - don't rub it in.

Cashrewards should enforce a minimum discount if they're going to use cashrewards for their marketing. It's misleading to consumers too because who would think you'd get so little at all. It's too late to work out the % properly but that's way under 1%, as in maybe 0.20%. crazy.

  • The dilemma of "giving" too little is worse than, not giving anything at all.

Seems like a 1st world problem?

    • Is it though? Is it worse?
I'm inclined to think there's at least some semblance of decent consistency in having no discount at all - rather than the implied insult of ..y'know…TWENTY cents!!
Jeez. It's almost like we should do a whip-around for Ticketmaster.
Times must be really tough in the touting business.

saw jackson browne in an on the green outdoor concert back in 2008?, was brilliant
go see him live, worth the money without cashbacks

Yeah, I know, right. The money is hardly a thing when it comes to this guy. "Running on Empty" is still my favourite album…!

    *sigh

Do you want the 20c or not?

    • …let me think…thinking…thinking….Nah, I'll pass.

  • lol thats pathetic…what are you going to spend your 20 cents on OP?

        I was thinking: a popcorn…ONE popcorn.

Outraged at a 20c cashback, not outraged that we've gotten to the point where $150 concert tickets are the norm (and even then, those are generally the 'cheap seats' level)

    Strange soapbox

you seem to love whinging about people having a whinge …strange behaviour. lol

    • +1

Actually, I am very outraged at the ticket price - that is the underlying premise of my moan: you charge a truly, epically outrageous $130 to sit on wet grass for a concert, THEN you rub it in by offering a 20c discount!!
I hardly know whether to laugh or cry!

  • It is fun how the Ticketmaster reseller site blatantly facilitates breaking the law but the cops will do nothing about it because quite frankly they are useless and it is in the too hard basket. It is Illegal to increase the price of tickets for certain venues in Qld over a certain amount but can regualrly find people doing this through the reseller site. Cops don't care - if it was someone on the street doing it then they would go arrest them immediately but anything online, they don't even want to know about it. Pathetic.

    • Cops might not be the right department to report to? It's like calling the cops instead of fair trading/accc for warranty stuff.

Ladies and gentlemen, the two time post and ghost world champion is here!

Also isn't Cash Rewards money for nothing? Like, you've done nothing and they're opting to give you 20c. I figure anything is better than nothing.

    • Aw, c'mon man. It's nightime in WA, dontcha know?
A man's gotta sleep and work too.
      But, hey, I'm online now!
And, yeah, I know…you're right: money for nothing (sort of) - but, I wasn't actually complaining about CR. I was having a go at Ticketmaster and the like.

The Cash Rewards discount is a flat…20cents

Would you rather be running on empty?

OP won't stay just a little bit longer to respond.

    • LOL! You are a card!
Nah, I got Nothing but Time, and I Love the Thunder of my own indignation..
