    White only?

  • Nice find. Pretty good deal. You can get the same level or even better performance for cheaper, but you’d likely be sacrificing build quality, screen and portability.

    • is it easy to carry or feels heavy ? I have ideapad atm which weighs 1.3kg and feels extremely light.

      • This is 2kg so would feel heavy if you're used to 1.3kg. The lightest gaming laptop is 1.7kg (Asus G14)

      Link to time machine too?

      • +1

Its in stock at HN and they have it on discount regularly. Its called the advantage edition.

        • It's $1k higher atm. With an older model processor I doubt it'll be around for much longer.

Different machines suit different needs. The strix AE is a very traditional gaming laptop with a million rgb strips in the usual 15.6’ form factor.

The zephyrus? Slimmer (sub 2cm), lighter (sub 2kg)and just overall much more portable even with the same panel. It also doesn’t immediately give off the gamer vibes neither. The 6000 series upgrades along the fact that it’s a -HS chip also meant much better battery life than the Strix. Add in the ddr5 premium tax, mux switch, webcam, good speakers (for a gaming laptop, at least, don’t hope to compare it to a mac or a xps), and pcie 4.0 drives, none of these the Strix get? Yeah it’s a good deal.

The sleep function on this model doesn't work and there's no good fix for it. Also keep in mind the performance and cooling is more geared towards mobility rather than gaming. I purchased one a few weeks ago and ended up returning it cus of the sleep issue.

  • Wish gift card? Isn’t Ow part of the coles group and not the Woolworths group or whatever they are now?

A better machine than the Legion Slim, but shame there’s too much ill informed people that will upvote anything with the legion name on it.

Please folks, once you open your eyes to give a try to other brands. You will realise the problems with it-how heavy the slim is (2.3kg, for your reference) for a supposed slim & light machine, that it comes with less wattage than the zephyrus (or razer blade for that matter), and that the intel chip wont run that well in a chasis with lesser thermal headroom than a ‘standard’ gaming laptop & the sad battery life in a machine with portability designed in mind (uncore wattage usages goes brrrrt).

  • Just be aware because it is over the $900 limit for trs they can make you pay back the gst if you bring back into the country.

    • +2

That limit is gone. There's no more quota. You claim trs and bring it back you are liable to pay it back. You can risk not mentioning it in your arrival card but thats a risk you are taking.

  • 16GB RAM and 512SSD are major flaws to this deal. Can does the G15 have additional slots to chuck in a 32GB RAM (total 40GB) and 1TB SSD (total 1.5 TB)?

How much would those upgrades cost, and would it void warranty?

    • +1

Yes and Yes. $261 for the ram and storage will depend on a lot on what model you go for.

Upgrading machine yourself should not void warranty.

      • Cheers mate. I researched this option further and it seems more RAM isn't always the best and may even cause the laptop to be slower? Something about dual channel RAM blah blah but I'm not too tech savvy.

What's the ideal total RAM to upgrade to? Should I go 8GB soldered + 16GB or 8GB soldered + 32GB? I want more RAM for 10-20 chrome tabs for work and gaming.

        • +1

Im no expert on this, but DDR5 seems to be improved over DDR4 in that they can run at dual channel on a single stick, and as such the perf% increase with running two sticks of equal size for dual channel is much smaller than ever before. You can check this video for some benchmarks.

Really if all you want is some chroma tabs open I think 16gb is enough, but to be on the safe size 8+16gb is fine as well-that can be had for 103$ on amazon

            @Brrrrt: Thanks mate!

            • @xdigger: :) always happy to help

              • @Brrrrt: Hi mate, I'm considering jumping this deal this month, are there any recent 1TB SSD deals that's good for this G15 laptop?

Btw what are your thoughts on the G15 display, is it worthy of its $2300 pricetag? Its 2560 x 1440, but brightness is 300 nits is that good enough for gaming without an external monitor? Thanks.

                • +1

@xdigger: Hi sorry havent kept up with ozb lately. Eh I reckon any ssd deal thats posted on here would do but definitely watch for reviews. Either pcie 3.0 or 4.0 is fine, the latter is faster but in games you wont be able to tell the difference. The panel is definitely more than servicable even if not as bright as a l5p panel, for gaming it is certainly more than fine. Great colour coverage at that.

        • Is this deal finished? I see it as 2.9k on the site

  • Is this deal finished? I see it as 2.9k on the site

  • +1

Yes its finished. I had a look in store and the 300 nits screen looked washed out so decided not to get it at the deal price.

  • Thanks bro , wdym washed out ?
