    Cheers bought one. RIP queen

    • +1

Russian bots downvoting you for mentioning the queen? Why are they here

      • More like inner city leftie hipsters that proliferate this site who hate tradition in general. Likely part of the fragile and woke safe space tiktok generation.

        • +3

          Who hurt you?

        • +2

What a dumpster fire of a generation

        • -1

Each neg you got simply confirmed your point. Well done!

  • +30

One of the worst, uncomfortable chairs I’ve ever sat in.

    • +75

It's cos of your suit 🦇🇦🇺

      • +5

Birthday Suits dont like mesh chairs

    • +19

Yeah, can't believe people upvote this deal. These used to be available on Gumtree all the time for $50-$100. I paid $50 for mine and absolutely HATED it. Clunky, uncomfortable horrible thing.

      • +2

Not really, they are mainly $300-$350 second hand here. Tho I don’t really like the chair personally anyways

      • +1

It's uncomfortable because you got the fake one mate. I've never heard of one going for that price range. It's either you got a fake one or a replica

        • Yea he got the Bathhurst Herman Miller one, pmsl.

        • +2

Nah. It was 100% the real thing. Office buildings around Sydney regularly clear out chairs at dirt cheap prices. It's only due to COVID and the rise in WFH for employees that the prices have gone up. I ended up selling it for $150 in the end, was glad to be rid of it. Bought a Steelcase Leap V2 for $200. Better but still not perfect.

          • @nubzy: how did you find a Leap V2 for so cheap?

            • @fredblogs: This was pre-covid. It used to be very common to find big name chairs for under $200 used on Gumtree..

      • They saw Herman Miller, and they upvoted without ever having sat in the chair.

  • Damn, are you spying on me?

  • +2

The bottom pan is prone to sagging and the backrest is not comfortable.

    • +1

Is that from experience? How long did it take for the sag to happen. I wonder if they have a weight limit and people closer to the limit is sag-able. Need more anecdotal evidence

      • +3

Yes it’s from personal experience. I bought a second hand Mirra 1 from ex office equipment. The mesh was very saggy and due to the design of the pan, it’ll dig into your thigh, creating an uncomfortable pressure. Mira 1 bottom pan has a sponge piece at the front which gives support on the thigh but it’s very deteriorated over time. This piece alone costs about $80 shipped from UK.

Another issue I had with my Mirra was the smell. The mesh is practically almost fabric like which has absorbed a lot of ASS and hints of cigarette smell.

        • +3

Your ass needs to stop smoking.

        • Exactly that! My concern is when needing parts would make it more expensive added to what you already pay for the chair!

So all within 4 years you started seeing signs of wear and tear?

          • +1

@PeeDee: It’s a second hand chair mate. Mirra 1 has been around for more than 20 years. The sag was already there when I bought it but I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got it.

            • @xenoic: Ah ok. the Mirra 2 is out and it looks like a lot of the problems are addressed there. Not a fan of the Aeron one though cause of the net.

        • +1

Think of the thousands of silent but deadly farts that have been laid through that mesh. Lifted arse cheeks to drop bombs on fellow workmates. I bet that mesh is a small city of poo particles…

      • +1

From the photo this looks like the Mirra 1 which is the same as what I had.

        Issues:
        1. Saggy mesh
        2. Sponge support disintegrated
        3. Smell
        4. Mine had a manufacturing date in 1999. That’s been around a lot of asses in the last 23 years

Replaced with an Aeron and it is a massive upgrade in many aspects.

        • 2) is something I didn't realise when I bought mine. Otherwise just a great chair

  • +3

I've found it very good for me. Highly customisable

  • +9

No arm rest is a deal breaker for me.

    • +1

No leg rest is a deal breaker for me

      • +106

No money is a deal breaker for me

        • Now this is gold

  • +5

I bought a second hand one 10 years ago. Still going strong, exactly the same as when I bought it 10 years ago. I did get the arm rest one though, I think I'd miss it if there wasn't a pair.

  • +3

I have mirra, aeron and cosm, mirra is the worst….but again can't complain too much at this price…

    • What's the best?

      • +1

        Cosm in my opinion

        • Why tho

          • @abuch47: No more adjustments and just fits my move. Aeron is great when I sit in straight position, but from time to time I need/ want to layback a bit or move around/change desk height or so and cosm can follow my move. It feels like not enough back support at first but after a full day I just love it, and it’s now my favourite

            • @slimsnorlax: Yeah I like the aeron for ergonomics but not lounging around in easily. Have never seen a cosm secondhand whereas the aeron picked up a grey classic for $720 at the height of covid. Just need to work out what to clean the mesh with

  • +4

Aeron for 650 is much much better value than this at 325.

    • +7

      Any link for that?

      • second this… that is a very good price if it includes arm rests

        • Ongoing price for second hand is about $950 with arm rests these days

          • @evilbamboo: Yeah, I managed to get mine for $800 but my partner is after one too

  • I've got a new Mirra and it hurt my back very badly, no matter the adjustment can't get the right fit. Bought it new too :(

    • +1

the design philosophy of mirra is that it allows your body to move around. making you use your own core and back muscles while sitting.

IMO it's not meant to be a sofa, so the adjustments on it is not designed to give you comfort, 'right fit' is not what you look for. It's designed to allow you to move and support with you own body, instead of something that you sink into.

  • Um, Preowned, where are they come from?

    • +7

Probably some big 60,000m2 corporate office churn in the CBD. They literally get thrown away with all new furniture purchased for a new fitout.

      • -2

oh god I wonder how these preowned guys manage to get their hands on them

        • +6

          they buy them.

      • +4

Im a property guy for a large corporate. We’ve been recycling/reissuing our Aerons whenever we exit a building nowadays. The chairs last 10+ years, so unless they’re in poor condition (very few are), they get moved over to the new building. Saves money, and is a much more sustainable practice.

        • +1

If you get odd people coming in asking to buy a herman miller chair just for their home office, would you sell it to them?

          • @PeeDee: Nah we don’t. Didn’t stop people taking them home with them during covid… our excess either does to charity, or auction for charity. We don’t sell anything direct to staff

  • -3

Hi are these new and can you ship to Pakistan?

    • +12

No, can only be shipped to the Prince of Nigeria.

      • just fyi, I'm not sure if he knows its a joke from the sound of where he's coming from

  • +3

    I love my Mirra

    • Agree. Haven't had to go to the chiro since covid, buying it. Saved me heaps. Built in 2003. Still more comfortable that whatever my work is providing me

      • +1

Haven't had to go to the chiro since covid

Why would any one give their money to those snake oil salesmen?

    • Nothing makes sense… This comment too.

      • -3

I know! Not sure how paying hundreds for a chair makes sense. But each to there own.

        • +2

Have you ever tried the chewbacca defence? Also doesn’t make sense.

    • +7

Arguably worlds most renowned designer and office chair, been through test of time both design and durability wise. Almost all professionals agree is good chair.

Random dude on the internet says ‘makes no sense’.

      • -3

And? Sorry you feel you need to spend thousands on a chair and be upset when someones says its crap.

        • Do you even know what "upset" means? Pointing out that someone has no idea isn't "being upset."

    • +1

Because these people may have already sat on it to know the worthiness. you make no sense.

      • -3

Im not one to make a comment unless ive had some experience. My apologies for my comments.

    • +1

      David eddings?

  • These are the most uncomfortable chairs ever. I would always get back problems when using these in the office, despite trying to adjust it.

Also many studies showing that these ‘ergonomic’ chairs aren’t always good for you. For a lot of people they can actually make back pain worse, as has been my experience.

    • -2

      prove?

      • +1

        The many studies, derrr

  • +3

Bought one last week for $325 from this place and the condition of most of them were as to be expected (wear & tear) tried to pick the one with the least amount of scuff marks but so far so good - hoping to pick up an Aeron soon if available!!

  • +1

I have both the Aeron and the Mirra. I find the Mirra to be more comfortable. This price is a bit high as you can pickup used Mirras for around $150 on Facebook/Gumtree.

    • How long have you had it for and is the quality still good?

      • I have a 8 y.o. mirra and a 4 y.o. mirra 2.

The mirra had developed a broken back lean tension adjuster, stripped the threads - my fault. But Workarena serviced and replaced it free of charge under warranty a couple of years ago, part of 12 years warranty

  • +5

Lol second hand office chairs smeared in call centre arse juice is now “sustainable” … good lord

    • +2

good thing this thing is mostly plastic, elastics and metal, just shampoo it and dry it and as good as new. There's no fabric nor foam to retain arse juice.

      • +3

You’re wrong. The Mirra 1 seat pan has foam support underneath the front bit. That one disintegrates within a few years and absorbs a lot of stink if it’s a second hand item.

Can’t pull out that foam easily and need to disassemble a few parts. Poor design in the Mirra 1

        • +1

wow…that's gotta be alot of arse juice for it to go thru the mesh seat layer…that padding is not under your bum, literally it would have to oversaturate the mesh via the underside of your thighs. Technically possible I guess…*shudders to have this image in my head…LOL.

          • +1

@hippo2s: Technically not as bad as cushion seats. That will literally be like a tampon sucking all the ass juice and infuse it with the foam.

That reminds me all car seats are like that too especially fabric ones.

  • +1

I have a Mirra 1 with the mesh back and arm rest. Got it off gumtree for like $300ish like 4 years ago. Compared to the dx racer and a cheap $200 office chair, it's no question so much better. I think the dx racer actually damaged by back with it's terrrrible lumbar support.

That said physio thinks I need a saddle chair, so I'm back on the market for a new chair… But I definitely think the Mirra is a very good chair.

    • how did your back get 'damaged'? Didn't the Mirra help fix bad posture from previous chairs? Why did your physio recommend a saddle chair when you are well off with your Mirra?

      • I can not be sure what caused the 'damage'… I play a lot of sports and have taken a few hits. Most notably was some (profanity) at outdoor netball who thought it was like footy and undercut me when I was in the air. That took me out for a weeks.

That said a year or so later I was using the dx racer with lumbar cushion for multiple hours a day and playing squash when one time I jumped up vertically and felt a pull. That was a strain that I never fully recovered from. Pain was pretty intent initially. Sneezing would have be curled up in the fetal position for like 10-15 minutes in just agony. Over time the intense pain went away, but there's still an ache in my lower left back.

I don't think sitting down is going to 'fix' it, no matter what chair. The physio think it's from the hip joints and so a saddle chair should allow me to get upright position and straighten my legs. That should at least remove the constant damage I do by hunching / sitting in a regular chair.

    • +1

Mirra is designed to NOT support you, it makes you support your own posture thru developing and using those core and back muscles. A saddle chair would be the ultimate as there is absolutely no back!

Other posts where people complain it's uncomfortable compared to padded chairs…of course! It's meant to be like that. It's not designed to be a sofa.

      • The idea behind a saddle chair the physio thinks is because my pain comes from the hip joint, I can't straighten my leg and posture.

      • Being no back chair I'm assuming the physio would want you to use it along with your Herman Miller cause it can get uncomfortable

  • Hey guys, can anyone here who would say that they've had it for long period of time like several years comment on whether the chair is still going strong? Quality, wear and tear?

Biggest thing I fear is parts replacement Herman Miller, if there's a problem with your chair outside of its warranty, replacing the parts can be pretty expensive.

    • +2

12 years of warranty (but if this is seconds check and get that that is the youngest). That's works out to be 7.4 cents per day to support you bum. By then…just get another.

I had mine serviced free a couple of years ago, broken part replaced. Other than that still same but I am small build so not affected by mesh sag.

Just saying…yes there are cheaper (more comfortable) chairs. but not many gives this kind of warranty, especially 'gaming chairs'.

  • How does this chair compared to the Embody Chairs?

    • Embody is comfy but doesn't hug and the back support moves with your spine which is has pros and cons

  • +2

    Herman Miller Aeron = 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S
Herman Miller Mirra = 2004 Hyundai Elantra

    • +7

So you are saying the Mirra is more reliable?

  • +2

Very happy with the Aeron. Not sure about this but can definitely recommend the Aeron.

  • +5

Why is nobody talking about the Zody chair for $75!!
    https://www.sustainableofficefurniture.com.au/our-range/prod…

Office works sells these for over $800 new and my office just bought about 200 of them. It seems that these ones come from NAB.

Bargain for $75, I bought two recently, much prefer these than the $200-$300 cheap chairs from Officeworks.
