What are the advantages of an iPhone over say, a train, which i could also afford?

    • +15

You'll notice when charging the iPhone in your shoe it can warm your feet, whilst the vibrate feature in your back pocket gently massages your buttocks.

      • +2

        🤣⭐⭐

      • 🧐

        Haha, well played Sir.

      • +1

I never put the vibrating feature at the back , always at the front .

  • +3

I recently grabbed heaps of Belong $80 packs (about $20 each on Gumtree, eBay, etc). You can activate one for main mobile for $25 at first then change to $15/m aka 4 month worth of mobile plan (unlimited call and txt) + activate another pack as mobile data (currently max 500GB for $70, still have $10 credit left which is useless anyway as you mainly want that 500GB to gift to your mobile, you can then cancel the data plan to avoid seconf month charge. But from 17th Oct will come down to just 400GB instead of 500GB).

So, with just $40, you have 4 month worth of Telstra 5G with bit over 500GB of data aka $10/month :) - no lock in with contract too ^_^

    • I like your wisdom. Let me see if I got this right:

      1. I activate one for calls say $25p.m (will it expire after 28days like the other telecompanies?)

2 I activate a data pack 500gb. Xan the data pack be added to my first call plan so I only use 1 sim?

      • +1

basically yes :), decided to scrap contracted plans and go with this trick, very happy with cheap Telstra 5G at about $10/month lol

yes, you will use one mobile sim as your main and you don’t need the data sim at all, all would be done in Belong app :)

        • +1

Can you rinse and repeat after the 4 months?

          • @FormulaWon: Grab a telstra $2 sim(optus reqireds recharges while telstra doesn't need it yet)
Transfer your main number and port in to belong$80 sim again

        • Isn't there a max amount of data you can gift?

        • +1

Wow! That's a meat trick! As per below, you can repeat this after every four months and is there a limit to how much data can be gifted?

          Thanks Mr Rapist!

    • 5G is only on the data sim, so the sim in your phone will only access the wholesale 4G network (so not full coverage).

    • Only that it's not the whole Telstra network like Boost, but Belong's reception should work for most areas. I live in the Shire, Sydney and have limited reception.

  • +2

doesnt sound like a deal to me

  • -1

JB has a somewhat similar deal except critically the $1200 isn’t cash, it’s gift cards. So the GG deal is far superior.

    • +1

It’s actually the same deal-ish with TGG. They just advertised it as $1200 off RRP on iPhone 14, but if you scroll further down onto the page, the actual promotion is on the $99/m plan with $1200 gift card

    • ? How is taking $1200 off any iPhone deal superior to $1200 gift card that let you choose other items you can buy?

      • -6

        LOL WUT

uhhhhhh because if you just get the $1200 off the iPhone, you then have $1200 more that you can spend at any store in the entire world, rather than a $1200 gift card that is only useful at JB….? Is this really such a hard thing to understand? Is this real life?

        • You got this all wrong. Jb and gg offer their own gift cards that can only be used in their stores.

        • LOL! That's the funniest thing I have ever heard. Say you have a total of $5,000 in your savings account, taking $1,200 off any iPhone deal is inferior to the $1,200 gift card deal as a gift card gives you an option to purchase almost anything at JB or even to sell it privately at a discount for real cash on a marketplace. If you have decided to use the $1,200 gift card on an iPhone then the end result is the same as taking $1,200 off any iPhone deal and you still have $5,000 in your savings account.

          • @wtfnodeal: Okay.

So I have $5000 in my back account and decide to take the $1200 off deal so I pay about $1200. And so have $3800 in my bank, an iPhone, a plan, and no gift cards.

But if I take the gift card offer I would pay about $2400 and so would have $2600 in my bank, an iPhone, a plan, and $1200 gift card I can only use at JB or sell for about $1150.

Surely the GG option (1st paragraph) is better?
            Surely.

            • @Eeples: Or you can use the $1200 gift card to partly pay for an iPhone and still have $3800 in your bank.
If this hopeless logic thinking is the result of our education system I think we all are doomed.

              • @wtfnodeal: Yes, that’s the only way it’s the same.

If you use the gift card to help buy the iPhone.

                • @Eeples: If you choose the gift card deal there are some other items you can use the gift card to purchase from JB. Given the flexibility available on how you use the $1200 if you choose the gift card deal I conclude that it is superior to the $1200 off iPhone deal.

                  • @wtfnodeal: Surely having the $1200 in your bank account instead of a JB card is more flexible.

                    • @Eeples: Ok you can continue to believe whatever you want to believe. I am done here.

      • +1

Cash is basically a form of gift card, but you can spend it wherever you want.

        • +1

Apparently this is a hard concept to grasp.

        • Not wherever, it is usually restricted to the country that the cash, which are notes and coins issued by that country unless you convert them into other currencies which again there are variables involved such as exchange rates, commissions etc.

          • @wtfnodeal: Also probably important to note that if you time travelled back 100 years that even in Australia people would be unlikely to accept coins and banknotes that we use today.

            • @AustriaBargain: I would rather bet my chances with Australian government’s efforts to maintain the value of notes and coins (as opposed to inflation rates) than the value of those gift card issued companies which may not even longer exist for you to redeem them. The gift cards are usually sold at discounted prices for a reason in case you haven’t noticed.

    • +1

      lol how. It's tomato tomato

      • +3

        No it's tomayto

      • Does the Tomato Tomato run iOS?

    • +2

$1200 cash off iphone = $1200 gift card used for buying iphone from JB.
Both deal are essentially the same if you're getting an iphone = $1200 off your choice of iphone.

Stop and think for a second before you make any further comment.
You're showing your lack of iq in a public forum. Smh

      • -4

Oh noes, however will I recover from the shame!

      • +1

It’s only the same if you spend the $1200 gift card to buy the phone.

      • +1

There is no need to argue with those stubborn people here. Let’s just say our future is doomed.

        • I honestly can't tell if they're trolling or just stupid..
I hope to God they're actually in their 40s if not older because otherwise like you said our future is doomed.
It's basic math, not even advanced or anything jfc..

          • @Spectre7: I am afraid it is the latter. I don’t think it is them to blame but only those who have taught them to learn in such ways are to blame. When I first heard how my child was taught to memorise timetables in primary school, I knew there was something wrong with our education system.

  • +12

    To translate this deal.

If you currently paying more than $49 on a non telstra mobile plan and want to buy a new iPhone, this deal may save you some money than buying the iPhone out right.

  • +1

Decent holiday for the price of an iphone

    • But you'll miss out on having a fruity logo on your phone.

    • So instead of sitting on a beautiful beach on a tropical island you can play with a dynamic island on your screen!

  • Hi OP sorry if I missed it , but isn’t it the landing page says only for iPhone 14 pro and not in any iPhone 14 ?

  • +3

You're going to pay $2400 over 2 years just to get $1200.

Guys, like everything with Telstra, it's a scam.

    • Did you want an iphone and 24 month mobile service for free or with some money on top?!

      • +2

You can get mobile services for $200 a year with a substantial amount of data. You're effectively overpaying theme a huge amount of money for the 'gift' of $1200 now.

These types of 'offers' by Telstra are only to deceive the financially illiterate.

        • You won't get 300GB data per month with $200 a year. Most people will not need that much data, but for some people 300gb can also be a replacement of home internet. I live by myself and I just use my 200gb data plan per month using mobile hotspot as my home internet. So this plan is perfect for me. Tell me if you have a better deal for my situation.

          • @yummypinacolada: You're right. For that specific use case this plan would have some benefit.

But choosing to operate on a phone data plan limited to 300gb a month is losing out on all the functionality and purpose of an unhindered home internet.

Then there's the question of why is someone spending $1,200+ on an iPhone rather than spending it on home internet.

Essentially all this plan does is forego a home internet for a flashy phone. And that's at best case scenario.

          • @yummypinacolada: Felix @20mbs unlimited $35 a month

  • +3

    It's more like:

Buy a full price iPhone 14 and get eligible for half-priced 2-year-$100/month plan

    • -1

Which sounds unappeasing when put in those terms.

  • +1

The actual deal is an extra $400 on your gift card. $800 on connection is their standard deal anyway. If you're getting an iphone, you get the discount on the phone which sweetens the deal because you don't have to spend more money at the Good Guys.

  • If you are on an expansive mobile plan then this deal help you to save.

    I’m using the Cole Mobile 120 for 12 month. This mean 240 for 24 mths compare to 24 x 99 = 2,376 - 1,200 = 1,176.

Nothing to save comparing 240 vs 1,176.

  • Looking to pay iPhone 14 pro max 256 monthly.
    So , Jb hifi = $99 x 24 = $2376 + 2099 ( pro max 256 ) - $1200 = $3275 in total . Immediate out of pocket $99 per month + 899 (2099-1200) = $998 .
    With Credit line 0% free for 24 mths = $5 Mthly fee + 87.45 Mthly repayment = $92.45 + $25 boost mthly ( 240gb boost $300 ) =$117.45 x 24 mths = $2818 .
    Savings = $3275 - 2818 = $457 and 200gb vs 20gb per month data.

I would love to go with the good guys deal but the thoughts of having to deal with dreadful Telstra customer service within 24 Months really put me off.

  • -1

I guess it depends on how you use your data, but for me 15-20gb for when I'm out and about is honestly overkill. I use wifi at home etc.

Taking iPhone 14 Pro 256gb as an example, ($1899).
    Phone minus $1200 = $699
    24x$99 = $2376

    Total = $3075 or $128.16 per month.

Personally, I'd just get it from Apple on 24 months interest free $1899 ($118.8 latitude account fees over the contract)
    or $2017.8 / $84.08 per month.
Then grab a 240gb Boost 365 expiry (or whatever you prefer)
I paid $225 for mine on special, which would be $450 total or $18.75 per month, giving me unlimited calls/text, international calls and 20gb per month over the same period.

Total in this case would be $2467.8 or around $102.83 per month.

If you're a heavy data user, I'd say $25.30 per month for an extra 280GB is pretty good. Just thought I'd throw the above out there for low data users, I'd personally rather save the $600 and use that in years that follow than hand it over to Telstra for data I wouldn't use.

    • S10 is perfect. Not a fan of corporations milking consumers for their money to satisfy investors.

Wallstreet screws the little guys and enterprises like apple and Samsung helps them by over charging.

I hope mote people will not buy thei products for 1 - 2 years.. then you will see them drop their prices for the consumer.

    Thxs OP got 2

  • Funny how the post on top of this is a $5 toaster

  • Can we put the sim card in a 4G/5G modem for home internet use?

  • +1

Isn't the 14 already famous for being a 13 in thin disguise? Didn't Ms Jobs nominate it as such? Why would anyone buy one?

  • Might be a stupid question but back in the day TGG/JB plans you could cancel them via live chat with no ETF.

Is this still the case or have they plugged the loophole?

  • +1

For anyone considering buying the iPhone with their AMEX card, for the free screen replacement insurance: using the gift card to pay for most of the phone's price may make you ineligible for the insurance.

You only get the insurance if you purchase the phone with your AMEX, or if you pay for your phone plan with the AMEX. I haven't gone through the exact wording of the AMEX offer, but using the gift card arguably means you only partially paid for the phone with your AMEX.

    • AU consumer law give upto 24 mths which is 12 mths on top of Apple 12 Warranty.

Does the Amex 12 mth extra protection give anything more?

      • It appears the insurance continues for as long as you are an AMEX member.

        More info here: https://www.pointhacks.com.au/american-express/smartphone-sc…

      • Does the Amex 12 mth extra protection give anything more?

Just to clarify, the screen protection insurance is not the same as AMEX's warranty extension program. The screen protection continues forever, as long as you keep that AMEX card account open.

  • Is Telstra still giving the $10 port in credit on these new $99 plans?

  • JB Hifi or Good guys service ? Whats better in personal experience ?
