Windmaster? In my experience these aren't usually great if there's anything but the lightest of breezes. Need some sort of shield to keep the heat in/stop the wind blowing the flame out.

    • Dont you dare unravel the marketing teams crafty work!

The cupped burner may help with the wind… Personally I just use ~$10 stoves for hiking and carry some al-foil to use as a wind-shield, significantly smaller and lighter..

The Kmart stoves appear quite good for the money but they're rarely in stock: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/ultra-jet-butane-hiking-sto…

(If camping out of a vehicle I use a cheap Bunnings/Anaconda case style stove due to the cheap gas, if camping out of the boat when weight isn't an issue but size is I use a cheap box stove like: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/163828783815 )

      • OMG thank you man! I've been waiting for months for that kmart stove to pop back in stock. Seems to have great reviews. Just ordered it :)

      • Jeez the alfoil is such an ingenious tip. Never thought of it and always wanted a jetboil. My 360 stove will be just as good. Cheers!

They are pretty good in mild wind. I have a Soto Amicus (smaller version) which I have used in all sorts of conditions which has always worked well (I never need to use a shield with it).

      • +2

Love the amicus, the built-in piezo lighter is super handy too.

        • +1

Yeah me too! I would (and do) recommend it to anyone looking for a hiking stove.

Is your experience with this specific burner? OR just "camping stoves" in general. Because I promise you, the Soto is incredible in the wind. It's basically handmade japanese art.

  • +1

Wonder what prompted them to make it so tall. Just a few degrees of uneven ground, and trying to cook with a tall slippery metal cup (like the stanley adventure cook cup) becomes a recipe for disaster.

    • To keep the flames away from the canister

      • +1

In cold weather it's good to have some heat on the canister, unless you always buy the pricey cold weather gas… (speaking as a Tasmanian, lol)

    • +1

I use a kovea spider for this reason. It even works with a butane adapter for much cheaper gas (in non freezing situations)

      • You can refill an isobutane/propane canister with butane canisters using a cheap adapter.

      • The spider takes 2-3x longer to boil up cup than this though. It's also less windproof.

Pros and cons all the time.

        • I use a foldable windscreen, but yes it takes a while and it’s really loud

  • +5

It's made in Japan if anyone wonders

  • +5

Careful, these can blow up your house, it's unlikely insce. will cover it.

    • These really aren't the type of stoves someone would use in their home.. (The gas canisters are pretty pricey unless you refill them from the cheap cans with an adapter)

      • Apparently you'd be surprised.

      Lol

I own one of these and have found it invaluable! Got us through a month of trekking in Patagonia and two weeks in Tassie. Weighs almost nothing but holds its own in wind, rain and cold. Can highly recommend!

  • I use a BRS-3000T which was $27.

    • +3

Your BRS-3000T isn't made in Japan, doesn't have a built in igniter, has a much smaller burner head, takes more than twice as long to boil a cup, and won't work in the conditions this will, or in 10 years.

  • +1

Don't give that tenant more ideas!

  • +1

ive used a $15 stove off ebay for probably close to 80 nights without an issue

  • +1

IMO it's the best camp burner/stove of this type.

PRO: Works well unless it's very windy. Great output and efficiency compared to the other ones like BRS-3000T or MSR pocket rocket.

CON: It's a bit big for what it is so it's a bit fidgety when trying to pack it into a camping cup or bowl.

    • +2

It packs perfectly into a Tokes 750ml titanium pot with room to spare for a small cloth to keep it from moving around

  • These are excellent!

  • Has anyone received this yet?

    • +1

Mine shows it would arrive on 03/10-11/10

    • +1

I have received the stove today!

      • +1

Thanks for the update, I was worried because tracking status hasn't changed but now it shows it should be delivered early next week

        • +1

Mine received today too, great little unit.
