    HDMI 2.1?

Be aware this is the crappy flicker tv, the lower end 85j is flicker free go figure lol.

    • +10

Not sure what flicker is for you ; but I have the 75” of this and have no Flickering

      • Same, i have 75inch version and this TV is outstanding. Running it at 120Hz 4.4.4 as a computer monitor for HTPC and absolutely perfect. Best TV I've ever owned. Can't really see what would be an upgrade apart from oled but that would burn in.

    • +6

What are you on about……. mine hasn't once flickered……

    • +2

      stop blinking too much!

    • All 90j's flicker by design they use PWM dimming, 85j uses DC dimming much better. I guess sony get the 200Hz somewhat artificial refresh rate on 90j by taking some shortcuts and for some applications it may be better.
I actually bought a 90j and before it got delivered I changed it to the 85j for this very reason as I do get migraines and this is a known and commonly reported problem with flicker screens. That's why flicker free is a thing.

      Flicker-Free
      No
      PWM Dimming Frequency
      720 Hz
The Sony X90J uses pulse width modulation (PWM) to dim the backlight. It flickers at 720Hz in all Picture Modes and brightness levels. This flicker frequency is high enough that it shouldn't be visible to most people.

Great picture but the sound quality is awful. I will be getting a soundbar.

    • +20

So it's like any modern TV then.

I have this and a C1. The C1 sounds great but this sounds very tinny. I tried multiple settings but nothing was improving it.

        • The C1 sounds OK. It’s definitely not ‘great’ by any measure. Unless comparing it to earphones from Reject Shop…..

I have a 2019 Panasonic OLED (and a C1) and it sounds much better than C1. IMO C1 speakers are only just tolerable for use. Unlike X90J which are pure shit.

      • No, it's much much worse than say my C9

      • I hate that we're just accepting this as standard.

        • +1

I hate that you can't disable the ads on a TV that you paid for outright

    • but the sound quality is awful.

Did you mean like normal TV sound speaker?

    • +3

I barely use the soundbar with the 75” version as I find the speakers on the tv suffice

    • -2

The standard sound quality is quite good….. you may need hearing aids.

    • It's actually pretty good if you turn off all of their bad processing that makes them tinny.

Turn the calibration that they get you to do at setup off. And then crank the surround sound mix up to max to utilise the rear speakers and get the fullest sound.

I have a full Dolby Atmos home theatre but this tv alone without a soundbar is sufficient enough in the living room once the horrid processing was removed.

Rtings rating is 8.1 for this TV. I guess this is not too bad for its price range.

I've been pretty disappointed with it, I paid $1200 second hand (2 weeks old with receipt/warranty), but I've found the TV very average. I really dislike Google TV, the picture at night time for movies is much better than my older LCDs, but it's quite bad compared to my C9. During the day, the reflections are quite bad too.

Could we all please stop comparing OLED with FALD as if there is not a significant price difference between the two technologies?

        • -2

These were $2400 just a few months ago, OLED has been around $2400-2700. All the rave reviews of this TV made me think it would at least be decent.

          • +3

@onlinepred: So you are going to compare the full price of 65" X90J with the discounted price of 65" OLEDs? I'll do that to humor you.

LG A2 65" Self Lit OLED 4K Smart TV - Currently $2995 (down from $4095) (cheapest on JB/TGG)
            Sony X90J 65" Bravia XR - $2400

Still a 20% difference between the full price of the x90j and the discounted price of the A2. If doing a fair analysis and comparing the current prices of both, then 43% cheaper to get the X90J.

But go ahead, please give me more of your expert analysis ignoring that $1300 is a lot of money for a lot of people.

            • @happydude: What I'm getting at, is paying the extra to get FALD, results in very minimal gains. At this price it is a good buy, I am not disputing it at all. Previously it rarely got below $2k though, and most owners paying well over that.
Also the LG you referenced was $2698 at Good Guys just a last week.

Personally my Huwawei u8g 55" is basically the same, but handles reflections far better, and it was FAR cheaper for 65" even. Those that think $1300 is a lot of money would value saving even more money and buying a cheaper tv right?

Could we all please stop comparing OLED with FALD

          Same, couldn't understand that either.

People keep saying LED is not good for night time viewing and black not totally black like OLED, but that is OLED of course have good black level and good night viewing but how about not bright enough for bright room?

If you want OLED just buy it and forget about LED.

          • @superforever: Really I just thought that FALD would be able to do decently having black bars on movies etc, I wasn't expecting a lot. I think it's good to know as a TV buyer. Even in my bright room, the reflections are terrible, so it's less visible than an OLED too. Of course at night time you can't even compare it obviously, but I'm talking about day time and even just afternoon direct sunlight.

        • They are talking about reflections. Completely valid point for other users to use as a point of comparison.

Good price. Got this TV for just over $2k at the end of last year and have been extremely happy with it so far. Google TV is a breeze and haven't had any issues with response time.

  • I'm assuming X90K is a higher spec version of this one?

  • I've been ok with it- the Google software is odd at times….but coming from a 2012 1080P OLD LG LCD - Its a million times better.

  • The product page ‘can’t be found’ on Firefox nor Brave.

    • OOS may be.

    • Same result here, and a search for X90J only returned X90Ks

      • I saw the deal yesterday but didn't post until today.

  • Outstanding price but I could never go back to LED after owning an OLED. Regardless of how bright LED's can get, the contrast ratio is most important.
