Works great, tells temperature when I poke my meat.
Nothing worse than poking cold meat

use an infrared one for this.

What's your opinion on quality on these infra-red thermometers
@AlienC: i havent compared it against another to give an opinion. I’ve used mine about 3 years for things like deep frying oil temp, baby formula making and oven or cast iron pan surface or pizza stone temp etc and hasnt faulted :-)
This measures surface temperature, so depending on where you measure and how even the heating source is and based on material, it can vary and its not necessarily a problem with either of the models. Good to quickly check on several spots to get an idea
@kaleidoscope: You will laugh at me but I do my deep frying in a wok.
Makes life easier and because it is so big it can actually deep fry very well.
As for heat consistency it seems to do well at least the food comes out all uniformly heated.
