    • Just in case it puts your mind at ease and makes the world look less dystopian…

I'd been watching a mobo that was considered a bargain on this site less than a year ago at around $300. A few PC shops have gone right down to $249.00 recently but this one shop on eBay had it more than $20 cheaper than those shops, plus there was an eBay voucher for another $10 discount that was tempting me further - basically a $300 mobo for close to $200 ($217.something looked very close to 200 to me at this stage).

They kept selling until there was one left in stock and now a few watchers but I was telling myself that AM5 is coming soon, along with Black Friday or whatever and that it was worth the risk to wait and see but I kept checking prices everywhere and making sure the voucher still worked anyway coz I knew I wanted this VRM set up one way or another before it sold out.

Anyway, I was just checking to make sure the $10 voucher was still around and BAM! this voucher comes from out of the blue and brings the motherboard down to like $178.00. I didn't care whether it was eventually going to get to this price anyway - it was mine and I had proof that these vouchers can be much better for me than eBay. I mean, SOMEONE's gotta be paying that extra $50+ and it wasn't me!

A few yrs back I would easily spend 3k a year on ebay, now they lucky if it's 300…

    • +2

      Is it because of inflation?

      • +4

        cos of jack

      • +8

Coz there are nowhere near as many actual deals on ebay as there used to be. I just spend that money at actual stores (online and physical) or amazon now.

        • +1

Have to agree with this. They've let a whole bunch of commercial dodgy sellers from overseas proliferate on the site selling the types of crap you'd buy in WISH. Then they jacked the fees hard on sellers. It's lost the whole "bidding" vibe and is 95% fixed price sales now.

          • @Lets Make Sandwiches: What is worse is there are so many overseas sellers that pretend to be Australian sellers with things like Australia post logos on their ads etc. But even though they claim to use Auspost for delivery they refuse to deliver to PO boxes.
Like others I am using Amazon or Aliexpress mostly these days rather than ebay

            • @Rob-4x4: Yep the dropshipping is out of control. It's not really in Oz most of the time but because the dropshipper lives here they put that as their address.

      • +3

Because ebay management was so useless and lazy they let the whole box and dice get so corrupted and gave the online store business to Amazon.

        Hard work, but they managed.

  • +4

    What are the bargains?

    • +26

Not buying anything is the real bargain.

  • I had been on the hunt for some good PC gaming headphones. Snapped up the Blackshark V2 Pro Rainbow Six edition for $124. Considering the next best deal was $139 + shipping, quite happy with this.

  • Found a couple of items that I'm after but not that impressed. Better than nothing I guess

I've got a couple of things I'm watching at Peter's of Kensington, they don't normally jack prices in their eBay store.

    • Do we need to activate this deal? Or will any purchase with the 20%/22% count?

    • The Voucher entitles you to $25 off the pre-coupon purchase price when you spend $150 or more (excluding postage costs) on Eligible Items during the Validity Period. You may purchase up to 10 items per transaction.

So it's a 16.6% (approx) off selected items voucher.

      • I have already bought $85 Glenmorangie lasanta bottle using PLSAV22 code. Can I buy another item of $80 in another transaction and still eligible for this 20/22% September Sale $25 voucher? or does it have to be a single purchase of $150? t&C says You may purchase up to 10 items per transaction but it doesnot say anything for more than 1 transaction? can anyone pls share their pov or experience on this ?

        • As long as you use the code, it counts.

The $150 is minimum spending requirement to use the $25 when you get it.

          • @CodeXD: Sorry i am confused mate. Are you saying that I will get the $25 voucher after spending $150 in multiple transacations as long as I use the PLSAV22 code? But once I get the $25 voucher, then to redeem this $25 voucher, i will have to buy $150 items again?

            • @toyapple9: My understanding of that T&C is:

              1. Make ANY order with either SVE20 or PLSAV22 code on your eBay plus account.
              2. Wait for code $25 off code on or around 7 October 2022.
              3. Add $150 of eligible items in cart, and apply code.
              • @CodeXD: Thanks mate. So for point 1 purchase you mentioned, it doesnot have to be $150. With my $85 purchase, i am eligible for the $25 voucher now? Great..thank you

                • @toyapple9: Have a read of the link.

                  • @CodeXD: Yes read it just now. I think your understanding is right for t&c. Thanks mate

Hmmm, were considering some 12V Lithium Iron batteries, but prices jacked so much that after 22% off, they are more expensive than their normal non-discount prices (looking at their sale histories):
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/124001399732 $428.22 after 22% off, previous normal sold price $309-319.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/304239006622 $421.22 after 22% off, normal sold prices without codes $399.

    • Had 48v LiFePO4 on my watch list, didn't jack and got the max discount. Unfortunately max $300, which meant only a 12-13% discount :(

  • Worked on Brewers Yeast 10 packs $85 down to $66.30 for those with a still and eBay plus .
Works out to be about $3 a litre for bourbon using recycled oak barrel sawdust .

Just add things to kart from your watch list to see if the discount is there.

    • Oof, dust is going to make for some puckeringly tannin heavy spirit
I'll stick with at least barrel staves thanks

      • +1

I've found a proper coopering business who can make new barrels out of fresh American oak for a not-eye-watering price. I'm tempted to get them to make me a couple of 20L casks to try…if I can manage to be patient enough to let 'em sit that long.

      • +1

Yes I mix with chip as well , or staves if you like.
        Just giving people some ideas.
        But thanks for your input.

Shop the 20/22% September Sale and receive a $25 voucher - this might be handy as well for someone

    • +1

Even the the $25 Voucher has a minimum spend of $150!

      • True, as I said not for everyone, but You may purchase up to 10 items per transaction.

        • Indeed, certainly worth noting….. a bit stingy of eBay.

      • +2

it even has its own "eligible items" LOL

        • +2

OMG. I missed that. Talk about smoke and mirrors . Very on-brand for eBay .

  • I wanted to buy the items (x2) which are listed under the URL in T&C below but when I applied the code, it says 'the code cannot be allied for these items;

“Eligible Items” means items listed on eBay.com.au where a link to these terms and conditions and the coupon redemption code SVE20 (for non-eBay Plus members) and PLSAV22 (for eBay Plus members) is found in the item listing, or the item appears in the following URL:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/b/Coupon-Promotions/bn_7116150158'

Another disappointment by eBay. I will buy them somewhere else.
