  • Are these Gen 6 Legions?

    • +1

Yes, seems like they're gen 6/older processors

    • +1

Hahah lol lmao gltah dyor lmfao brb

      • bruhh wet fart reverb sounds

    • Cringe scalper

  • +5

Great price for the L5P 3070!

  • A lot better than the other lenovo deal posted today. Legion 5 pro price is actually decent given the specs and build quality. Other deal had the same specs for nearly $2,400 which is pretty terrible in comparison

  • Wow this is more like it thanks for the post ill wait till tomorrow now

  • +7

Absolute steal for a RTX 3070 Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

    • +2

      Def grabbing one.

      • Same

  • +1

I would have grabbed a 3070 L5P if I didn't get the Blade 17 with 3060 for same kind of price the other week

    • You can always sell the Razer and buy this instead.

      • I reckon Razer will have a better resale value longer term. I'll be better off to sell Razer when next gen GPU laptops start to pop up whenever that happens. I already owned a number of 3070 laptops, it's old hat for me haha

        can't fault Razer so far

        • At least this time you love your Razer so much, didn't you say before you will never buy another Razer again after your last terrible experience with it? You still want to give them a chance, aren't you?

          • @kaikor: it's like lottery, you don't win but next month you buy another ticket haha

last time around I bought from a smaller retailer, but this time I felt safer having Microsoft eBay store and PayPal in the picture just in case things go sour again

thoroughly happy this time, fingers crossed. I like Blade 17, wouldn't buy any other Blade model, which was another reason I decided to give it another go when I saw it at the right price in the right store

if that didn't happen, I would have given L5P a go, just to check it out A to Z. I like trying new hardware once in a while

          • @kaikor: spoke too soon! had some problems with Razer (minor problems, probably could have resolved by reinstalling Synapse and resetting Windows update catalogue) but used this to return Razer.

            arriving on Monday: Lenovo 5i Pro gen 7 (12700H, 3070Ti, 32GB DDR5, WQHD+ panel 165hz).

I guess I am trying Lenovo now lol

            • @shabaka: Oh no, another return Razer again from you one more time (how many you have returned?). Think its a curse on you, better stay away from Razer laptop forever haha!

              • @kaikor: yeah I returned 3 Razers now. ok, shouldn't say never again, in fact I was considering picking up 15 advanced with 3070 but ditched the idea when I learned TPG is 100w there.

Lenovo was a solid deal with 16% upsized cashback, so I am looking forward to getting my hands on one. 3070ti, ddr5, advanced Optimus, 12th gen i7, welcome to the future. well, until the next CES

              • +1

@kaikor: what can I say! L5iP is a beast. yeah build quality isn't Razer Blade (those guys are built like a tank), metal is thin, warps easily when handling the machine.

Keyboard is OK, a bit less comfy than Razer. Display is gorgeous. Overall packed power is INSANE. The only thing I'm missing here is per key RGB, but you can't have it all, right.

                • @shabaka: Great to hear, but I am sure you will go back to Razer again in the future?

                  • @kaikor: if Lenovo doesn't present me with any issues, I intend to keep it as main gaming machine for at least 2 years. 3070ti with QHD+ should be good, whatever market brings.

Then we'll see, maybe Razer will roll out some good 17 models with whatever gaming chips will be available at the time. However this form factor of L5P is growing on me, let's see how it holds up in gaming. screen seems dependable

however Lenovo certainly needs to learn a thing or two when it comes to product design. getting inside to install an extra SSD was anything but fun. also the screw for SSD is completely screwed, how could they do that. lucky I have tons of spares

  • +6

Told people in the last l5i pro deal that lenovo should have a good sale again and paying 2.9 grand for a 3070ti with negligble perf increase over 3070 is not a good deal at all. Got downvoted nontheless ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • I’m sure there will be a few waiting for the next one too - only 10 in stock 😢

      • Sure hope Lenovo bump up the stocks a little-10 is so few for such a great machine.

    • +2

People get caught up in the hype surrounding next gen products and high specs without properly evaluating the performance difference.

That l5i pro deal had a 12700H, 32GB DDR5 ram and RTX 3070 Ti. But, when you evaluate the specs, it is hardly worth the extra grand

      • The 12700H has incredible multicore performance. But this is not very useful for gaming. Unless you’re doing video editing, I really don’t see the need for this, as the performance difference in games is negligible

      • The RTX 3070 Ti also has very little performance gain over the RTX 3070. Higher end laptop GPUs give very little performance gain compared to their desktop counterparts due to the inherent thermal limits, which means laptops can’t pump as many watts into the system. Many people don’t realise this, but the difference between a full powered RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 in laptops is only ~20% (unlike the ~40% difference in desktops). It is way smaller between RTX 3070 to RTX 3070 Ti ( which seems to be around 5% to 10%).

      • Honestly, even the 32GB of ram is pointless for gaming for both. Basically zero performance difference in games. 16GB is enough unless you’re doing video editing. I doubt many ozbargainers need it.

      • Strategy games like that extra ram I've found. Try cities skylines with all the dlc and some mods, 32gb is the minimum for that one these days.

  • How heavy is the RTX 3070 Lenovo Legion 5 Pro?

I don't think I'll game, but I'll be spending sometime in Canberra and Thailand and can't exactly bring my PS5 with me.

I mainly want a workstation, and possibly do music production so basically cpu + ram.

I spose this is overkill? Haha

    • -1
      • I think I'd want 32GB ram for music production.

That's the main issue, half these laptops you're not able to upgrade ram.

        • +1

You can definitely upgrade the Legion 5 Pro's RAM to 32GB.

        • But then he's paying almost $1k for an extra 16gb (for something that he might possibly use it for). I'd rather the legion pro if I was going to utilize it more often, though.

    • +2

If I am not mistaken, it weighs around 2.4kg and when you combine the 300W power brick, it comes up to around 3kg.

      • I spose it'd be a pain!

        • Nothing beats the portability of a thin and light but nothing beats the performance of a desktop replacement either. I think the Legion 5 (Gen 6/7) are so much better than gaming laptops from the past few years. They have come down in size (thickness wise). Also you'll want the 16" 1440p bright screen on the Legion 5 for content creation.

      • +2

The power brick is 1kg and the total weight is around 3.5kg (laptop + power brick). Still a great laptop though!

    • +1

I use to travel with the L5P for work. I got sick of lugging it around. The laptop is an OK weight but the 300W power brick is massive. I ended up switching out to a Alienware X14, which comes with a 130W USB-C charger. I end up using this charger for my work laptop, phone etc. So i get additional weight savings over and above the weight of the laptop. The performance sacrifice for portability has been well worth it.

      • My Legion 5i Gen 7 (non-pro) works with 100W no-brand USB-C charger… however, it runs only the same performance as max setting on battery (based on my Cinebench scores).

  • +1

The laptop renaissance is over. Desktops for value.

    • I don't think getting laptops was ever better value for your money, laptops are for portability

      • +6

He means due to the desktop GPU 'shortage' over the last couple of years..in some cases it was better to just buy a laptop like legion for gaming.

        • Makes sense, I had a long day at work oops

    • +2

Definitely. This would get shredded by an equivalently priced desktop now. Desktops are back to being the value king now that the chip shortage is basically over.

There are still some value pretty good value options. The Nitro 5 (11400H with RTX 3060) and Ideapad Gaming 3 (5600H with RTX 3060) we’re both around $1000. Add another stick of ram (cause they were both single channel as budget laptops) and you’ve got yourself a portable budget machine.

      • As someone who has the ideapad gaming 3 with 5800h and rtx 3060, it is a good laptop but it is power capped quite heavily on the GPU, and the cooling and build quality are better on the Legion models. I've seen mine use around 85-90w max, which would fall behind a full fledged one by a reasonable amount. Although that being said, it does only have a native 1080p screen which helps reduce the difference.

My few gripes with my ideapad gaming 3 since buying it on black friday are the plastic build quality (broke a few tabs removing the cover to upgrade the ram), the refresh rate is locked to 165hz with no 60hz option by default for battery saving, no mux switch or advanced Optimus (just regular Optimus). My biggest gripe is the build quality seems to have dropped on these models, the Bluetooth wifi antenna cables were caught in the hinge from the factory and caused clicking noises with opening the lid, the CMOS battery coming loose quite often, and the heat vents to the bottom of the screen where the wifi and Bluetooth antenna sits, and these components seem to have a thermal limit as gaming for an hour and a half caused my Bluetooth to drop out and disconnect my controller (didn't expect this to happen as the m2 wifi/Bluetooth module is far away from the antenna) despite me running a thermal take laptop cooler and disabling boost on the CPU (reduced temps by 20 degrees and holds a more stable clock speed than running boost and hitting thermal throttling). But who knows, RNGesus has been known to dislike me

        • Haven’t experienced most of the problems you have had on my Ideapad gaming 3 (5600H and RTX3060). Maybe I’ve got a lucky unit

          • Performance and thermals are amazing on my laptop. Have done quite a few benchmarks. Very minor thermal throttling on a 30 minute cinebench run, which could possibly just be run variance (the 30 minute run was 3% lower than the 10 minute one). GPU scored only 10% lower than the legion 5 with higher power limit in timespy (scored around 8,000 whereas legions seem to sit around 8,800). It was even matching the legion in the shadow of the tomb raider benchmark (hitting 103fps avg in highest setting 1080p).
          • No hinge issues for me. I had clicking noises when opening/closing laptop, but it was because I didn’t click in the back panel properly after the ram replacement. Otherwise no issues.
          • Bluetooth headphones work fine after like 5 hours of gaming. I use a laptop stand and play on balance mode for normal gaming (when not benchmarking) cause the fans on performance mode are too loud. This might prevent the Bluetooth issues. Haven’t tested controllers though.

Overall, extremely happy with my purchase, but likely wouldn’t have been as satisfied if I faced your issues. For less than $1,100 with the ram upgrade, it was amazing value for money for me. The legion 5 has better build quality and performance. But it’s about a 10% performance increase in games while often costing 60% to 70% more. Hard to justify such a big price difference.

          • @SleepyBargainHunter: At $1100 it looks like you got a good deal. Mine was $1700-ish before SSD and ram upgrade, I think I bought mine around crypto mining peak. In hindsight the 5600h would've been the better option as similar performance but better thermals. I changed the thermal paste on mine which knocked temps down 10 degrees.

I didn't use Bluetooth headphones for mine, I was using an Xbox wireless controller over Bluetooth. Ended up getting the wifi dongle which fixed the issue for me.

Aside from that it's been quite good. I quite like the keyboard with the full numpad, performance is quite good and consistent once I fixed everything.

  • Anyone knows how about the "5800h 3060" version? Is it good enough for UE4 development with a good price? Thanks

  • +1

I got a Legion 7 through one of the past deals maybe a month ago, and absolutely loving the machine. So so good. Definitely another great deal!

  • Thanks so much for the post @dealbot, really appreciate it.

  • +2

Jumped on at 10am and got the 5 pro 3070 says I should get it by 19th September

    Thanks again dealbot ❤️

    • +1

      But no upvote?

  • Got the 3070 moment it hit 8AM Wstd. Thanks Op!

  • Grabbed a L5P 3070, but didn't realise $1500 giftcard limit! Now have extra $500 of giftcard.. the horror..

    • +1

mate where did you buy 2k eBay giftcard?

      • +1

Shopback, for cashback… So got $60 cashback on that $2000…

        • Not if u invested additional 440$. Rip

EBay terms and conditions: No more than a total of $1,500 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per transaction, no more than a total of $2,000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per day, and no more than a total of $5,000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per calendar month.

          • @Truck-kun: Well yeah that's my stuff up.. haha.. but I also do have some other eBay stuff I need to buy.. so will wait for a (probably) 17% discount eBay Plus sale… Then spend away… But yeah, my mistake was not knowing the $1500 cap per transaction :/ Lesson learned…

  • For anyone who missed out on the Legion 5 Pro with the 3070, you can buy it from the Lenovo store for $2379. With the current Cashrewards of 14% it'll end up being $2045.94. Not as good as an instant discount, but an option.

    • +3

It's actually been restocked on eBay…

Is any of this better than 2021 mid razer blade 15.6 inch RTX 3070 360 hz model with 11th intel chip?

I bought the 2020 razer blade for $1999 - razer came back and the stock was damaged and upgraded it to above model.
And then there was delay in postage and they gave $400 refund.
So in effect i bought 2021 model for $1599.

I am thinking about upgrading my laptop.
Any input is much much appreciated!

    • your laptop is good 360hz is killer bro

  • Didn't need one but bought the 5 pro w/3070. Specs look amazing.
Question, do people re-install windows (maybe even go back to win10?) on these to get rid of bloatware or is it ok?

    • Hi mate, did your order has been shipped out?

      • +1

        Not yet.

        • damn slow, me neither.

          • @GCR: Just shipped, got an email.

            • @whorishmouth: Mine still hasnt, and I made the order a min after the deal went live.

I just made a complaint to lenovo LOL

  • Bought L5P with 3070 on a lunch break , thanks dealbot!!!

    • Has yours been shipped yet?

      • Hi cheapo123,

I got mine delivered around lunch time today, very happy with the delivery time.

  • +1

Any docking station recommendations to work with the L5P? Am looking to minimise my use of the big brick so wanting a dock that'll allow me to plug in and use a monitor, mouse & keep the thing charged while I game if possible.

also, will any USB-C 100w charger work when on the go? It's the only question i'm struggling to answer & while i've ordered this, am unsure whether i should've gone the L7 instead given i'll be travelling a fair bit with this in my backpack.

    • Keen to know the answer to this as well, have trusted the pooled wisdom here and bought the 3070!!

      • +1

So I did a lot of googling instead of working today pursuing these answers.

        Came out with the following:
        - 300w chargers are big, only smaller options are 240w ones which may tread carefully based on what you put your pc through.

        • while USB-C charging is doable it’s capped at 100w and so you’ll slowly charge your laptop but not enough to have it running beyond “battery” limitations. I bought a 120w PD usb-c GEN charger + a 5a rated USB-C cable so that’s as good as we can hope for.

Dock options are therefore limited via USB-C. It’ll work for basic office use but top tier gaming will always require a big charger plugged in. The future may change when 240w USB-C charging becomes a thing, but that could be a while away.

Means for me I’ll manage it with the brick short term, limit my gaming when using USB-C to keep it topped up & keep an eye out for SLIMQ’s new 330w charger which is due to hit the market in a few months.

Hope that helps/saves you hours of searching haha

        • Ahhhh this sounds exciting, what a monster we have purchased

Needs a special power supply it is such a beast……noice

        • +1

Slimq 330w is open for preorder on indiegogo. I’ve got some secret perk discount for $130usd and contemplating it big time

          • @WarriorZ: Saw that on Reddit. Can you pls PM me how to get a cheaper price for that? It shows $221 aud for me after early bird discount.

            • @kehuau: me too! love to grab it if i can get it a littel cheaper.

              • @Tregetour: The beast has landed and very happy with it - stuff researching purchases I'm outsourcing this to ozbargain…..

In time there will be other more practical 300W chargers, for now I have placed a kettle cord at work so I avoid carrying the heavy and bulky AC cable.

    • Posted my comment above:

My Legion 5i Gen 7 (non-pro) works with 100W no-brand (Llamatec) USB-C charger… however, it runs only the same performance as on battery (based on my Cinebench scores).

So, yes, it charges, but it will underclock itself until you plug in the original charger.

I still get Cinebench R23 scores of 7000-8000 on battery so its decent enough for everyday computing.

  • Any idea when the deal ends?

    • by the end of september, you can see the deadline on discount information on ebay.

But I doubt that the stock will be availible later

  • Thanks. Bought one 5 Pro 32gb 1tb 3070

    • Hi mate, did your order has been shipped out?

      • Not yet. Guess no shipping happens on weekend? I purchased yesterday Saturday

  • Those of you who got one of the deals when’s it saying it should come?

    Mines saying by September 19th

    • same, but it's still not shipping out yet.

  • By 15 September

  • The deal seems to go for a while as on the ebay page it says voucher expires 28/09/2022 which is still a couple of weeks.

Wonder if they will have stock still on hand until then or if any other deals sweeten up. :)

  • thank you op! i couldnt resist the 3070 version for 2k, cant wait for it to arrive

  • Over 100 sold. I think shipping will be longer then expected

    • Don't think so, ordered 11PM last night and mine has shipped already. Due 15th in ADL.

  • +1

    • Same here. Will wfh tomorrow.

  • +1

also just got my sms from DHL, expected delivery 13th (tomorrow) im so excited! ordered 1am this morning from ebay :)

  • Does L5P support 4 external monitors?

  • Ordered mine 5 mins after 10 on the day and still hasn't been shipped. Did get an email saying it will be shipped on the 14th.

Sad seeing people who bought days after us get it shipped first.
