  • +2

Yes baby. Definitely getting one. Is the Legion 7 worth the price difference? Cause the specs look basically the same?

    • +5

This video aims to answer that exact question
      https://youtu.be/PCGsPcy0Sxk

      • +1

Thanks mate might go for the 7 :)

        • What makes you pick the 7?

Is it just the bigger screen

          • @AussieMark: Just the additional features that no one cares about lol. I like the overall gray look, the led lights, customisable rgb, screen goes up to 180 degrees, the icons on the back light up (I play in the dark a lot so this helps) and it’s a tad smaller and lighter than the 5 Pro.

          • @AussieMark: Screen size is the same. In fact they use identical panels

  • Looks like the Legion 7 is OOS already

    • +3

probably hasnt started like Dell deals

    • starts tomorrow 10am as per first line in post.

  • +5

Do they have a sale every forthright? Seems like they always have 20% off.

    • Not sure about eBay but on Lenovo’s website I’ve seen 2 consecutive months where the new gen 7 amd’s are on sale, for example right now.

  • Is this laptop good for RuneScape?

  • +5

Not as good as the last and worse than the better deal ever in March. I'll pass again.

    And no cashback…

    • +1

      Agree.

    • +1

Seconded, 2.2k is not great for a 1 year old 0.5 gen older machine.

For as much problem that goes with the new G15 5520s, for the same price you are getting an 12700H and 3070ti (new vbios seemed to have updated it to 150w).

  • +3

No to Lenovo for their $100 promo fiasco

  • +1

    Last Gen CPU. No thankyou

  • +3

I bought 3 of the latest Lenovo x1 carbon yoga gen 12

All three ran at nearly 100 degrees with no apps open
    .
Lenovo support said I'm super unlucky with the first then second and then the third .. they could send someone to open it up and check or DOA

    I went DOA x3

Going to try another x1 carbon (non yoga) and if that overheats then I give up

Anyone else had issues with the i7 and gen 12? Lenovo seems to be not willing to admit to any of the heat problems but happily did DOA

My old x1 carbon gen 5 was amazing and no heat. Regretting selling it

Debating to go to a MacBook Pro with windows if Lenovo fails again

    • -1

Just go 14in MBP if you absolutely don’t need to run a Windows app anyways.

      • Cannot I just run windows on mbp

        • You can run Win11 arm64 insiders preview. But you can only run applications that work on arm64 - which isn’t everything. Or even a lot

        • +2

Boot Camp requires a Mac with an Intel processor.
You can’t bootcamp with Apple silicon (M1, M2).
          https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201468#more

    • this doesn't sound like Lenovo support to me
Lenovo has a 30 days refund and replacement policy, you can simply ask for a refund if the system didn't meet your expectation
And Lenovo doesn't just send anyone just to " open and check " your computer

      • .. (they could send someone to open it up and check) or (DOA)
        I went DOA x3

Lenovo did offer return & refund, i.e. DOA (defective on arrival), as an alternative.

      • Yeah mate it's Lenovo premiere support

I just took the refund as don't like the idea of a brand new machine needing a technician to open it up and check the cooling fans etc

      • @himefei
Bear in mind Lenovo charges 20% restocking fee

    • Do you have the Carbon or the Yoga? Two different laptops. I assume you have the 12th Gen Intel CPUs. I have the X1 Carbon Gen 10 and yeah its an oven. Mine's not 100 degrees idle though, yesterday i was sitting around 65 degrees average with light office use. I am running the i5 though, not the i7.

      • I have the yoga but I've ordered the carbon gen 10 now

You have me worried about the heat tho

My x1 carbon gen 6 never felt hot at all.

        • Yeah the Gen 6 I had was fine until the RAM died. Figured the Gen 10 would just be better. The heat has been better after I did the last BIOS update and some other heat management updates through Vantage. Battery life is still pretty terrible though. I could get my Gen 6 for pretty much a day in the office on battery but I hit about 4-4.5hrs on battery on the Gen 10.

          • @hawkers89: Gee 4-5 hours sucks haha

I downgraded from OLED 4k because the battery was only lasting 2-3 hours even just watching movies (x1 carbon yoga latest gen). I read to decrease the resolution but didn't make much difference

    • +2

I think you need to do your research first as to how inefficient Intel 12th gen is in mobile. AMD Ryzen is significantly more power efficient. Intel is still stuck on an old manufacturing process compared to the one that TSMC use, which AMD and Apple processors are made on.Hence if you look at reviews AMD battery life is within striking distance of the M2 compared to anything Intel can currently provide. Reviews are suggesting that 12th gen need a 64w TDP to compete with AMD Ryzen at 15w TDP.

      https://www.notebookcheck.net/Core-i5-beats-Core-i7-Alder-La…

"We reviewed a few new Alder Lake-P CPUs from Intel over the last two weeks and our concerns are supported by the test results. The power consumption is very high, which is a challenge for the cooling solutions. It is also a problem for customers, because a Core i5 can be more powerful than a Core i7 and there can be massive performance differences in general."

  • Thanks for sharing!

Bit too early for a new laptop but really looking forward to see the 38' monitor deal again!

  • I have a legion 5 pro 3070 and they run hot af

    • +4

Put it on a cooling pad. Or at least just raise the back of the laptop (I originally just put lego under it haha). GPU never goes above 85c now.
Also, if you don't need CPU power then disable the 'performance boost mode' in the power plan. Mines always disabled. CPU never gets above 80c now.

      • +1

Yeah even on lowest battery saving setting my Lenovo x1 carbon yoga sitting at huge temp

Disabled performance mode or auto fans and it helped a tiny bit

  • Anything worth getting that rivals the Intel nuc m15?

  • Does anyone know if there will be any 3060 Legions on sale? I want to spend $1800-1900 at the most. Bought a Dell G15 5520 from the Dell sale but Dell haven't even sent it yet. Might cancel that order and get a Legion if the price is right!

    • +2

Gen 7 on sale right now at Lenovo website

You can get the legion 5 6800 for 1999 or the pro for 2179, both 3060.

      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5-series/legion-5-gen-7-(15-inch-amd)/len101g0022

      • @flight88 I suppose it's better to buy from their website since it's got 2 year onsite warranty plus 10% off first purchase. Also, this laptop has got the better CPU as opposed to the eBay.

        • Can 10% off stack with cashrewwards?

          • @May23: I just found out that the 10% off is on the 2nd purchase. It's a bit misleading.

        • +2

The Gen 7 isn’t just a CPU increase. It changes to a magnesium/aluminium chassis, 15% thinner (apparently, although I can’t find dimensions), and I believe improvement to the keyboard.
Definitely an incremental improvement but I’d definitely want that premium chassis vs the eBay one.

          • +1

@ColtNoir: Yes, correct. I went ahead and bought the one you linked for. Did a pros and cons point system where I awarded 1 point for each 'pro' and the Gen 7 won by 1 point! Also 9% CR cashback!

            • @dealsforlife: Let me know what you think of it when you get it. Keen to see how it feels in hand and if you think it’s super bulky or not.

              • +1

@ColtNoir: I'll definitely comment here once I receive it. Cheers.

              • +1

@ColtNoir: Received the laptop on Wednesday. Had a good play around with it today and it's a really fast and powerful machine! Have only played the game Hard Reset on it but will try Gears 5, Forza 5 and Halo over the weekend. But overall, it's a great machine which is fast, has a great display, good cooling, premium feel and doesn't feel bulky. The speakers are very average but I use my Bluetooth headphones anyway. Can't believe that the price has gone up to $3249 now for the same machine which I got for $1819 ($1999 minus $179.91 cashback from CR). Thank you for the suggestion!!

                • +1

@dealsforlife: No probs mate, glad you’re happy with it.

I managed to see one at jbhifi and took the plunge and ordered the pro.
Very happy with it so far, just trying to tweak the battery settings to get the longest life.

  • +2

Just grabbed an L7. This will be my 1st gaming laptop ever. Been a console player since the Atari lol. Old man is very excited!

  • +1

I’ve got a legion 7i gen 6 with 11800H and 3080 for 2.7k during the march sale and it is a beast.

12k score on Timespy and the temperatures never exceed 80c even while overclocking during gaming.

  • What would be better to get between Legion 5 pro 6800H with 3060 vs 5800H with 3070 if mainly using it for productivity (on battery) but also gaming when away from home (mixed battery and plugged in)?

    • I think if you put hybrid mode on it disables the dGPU, so shouldn’t make too much of a difference. Depends on the battery size and if the 6800 is more efficient which I’m not sure.

FYI there’s also a difference in the chassis.

  • Is it another 8% off with shopback swap eBay gift cards?

  • Has anyone got any idea about when they will ship the laptop out? In matters of days? Or weeks? Thank you

    • +1

Mine is scheduled to arrive by next Thursday so I reckon they’ll ship it out today or Monday.

      • Did you get yours yet. Ordered 18th no update at all on mine

        • Yes got it last Wednesday. 3 days after shipment.

          • @thepurist: Sorry but how long was the total days since order placed??

            • @Cmaz: Just checked the order history. Ordered on the 12th, shipped on the 15th and delivered on the 17th (regional NSW)

              • +1

@thepurist: Great mate thanks a lot for your effort think i am the exceptional case with no update at all. On the bright side i am also at regional Nsw.

                • @Cmaz: Cheers. Maybe they're waiting for a new batch but I'm sure it'll get shipped soon mate

                  • @thepurist: Got shipped today DHL. Thx mate for all info

  • Seems confusing all the ryzen 6800 come with 3060

    Ryzen 5800 come with 3070

I would have thought the better graphics card would be the easy choice but what do others think?

  • +1

The Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro (14) for $1,295.20 seems like an excellent deal for anyone that doesn't need more than the integrated 680m on the system.

    • Its good and am considering it but this same listing on the lenovo site is $1489
      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-5/ideapad-5-pro-gen-7-(14-inch-amd)/82sj002sau

Still seems to be good value but not 20% discount on what you would get elsewhere.

    • What could a 680m handle?

    • Good call . My sons laptop died today so that will be good . Bit overspecced for school but with power saving it should have decent battery life .

  • Anyone know if the Legion Slim 7i listed with Intel 12th gen is the latest one for 2022? The chassis looks like the new one but the bottom panel is a little different. Also I read that the S7i has been given 130W TGP now. Does it apply here?

    • Check the product codes against Lenovo’s website.

      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-7-series/legion-slim-7i-gen-7-(16-inch-intel)/len101g0020

      • +1

Product code checks out so it is the 2022 model then.

  • Annoying that there are no laptops with 32MB listed.

    • +4

      Cause it's not the 80's?
Joke. 32GB right. There are 2 laptops listed in the OP.

      • Lol. Yes that was meant to be GB. of course there are a few… once I typed 32GB into the search box :-)

    • the 2 devices in the description example are 32gb RAM? What am I missing here?

      • [s]he is looking for a retro computer, like ThinkPad 310. 😄

  • For those in the know, your assistance please.
3050 with older CPU or 3060 with newer CPU?
Are both models/chassis without issue so just a case of picking GPU or CPU power?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/403277776149

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234624533434

    • Definitely 3060 if you play games.

  • Hey guys/girls, looking at which one to get, anyone that owns or knows about laptop, please give your input, thanks in advance .
