  • The earn rate is seems poor on this.. spend 5,000 a month on the card and you end up with only 24,000 velocity points after a year. That correct?

    • Yes that was my understanding too - it doesn't seem a great card to earn points on an ongoing basis. I'd rather get the 60k points then jettison it.

  • What to do with ANZ rewards and Suncorp rewards? I can convert to virgin points when they have the transfer bonus, but not sure what the best way to use them is. Hotels? Flights? Planning on visiting the states next year.

    • +1

Velocity partner with United Airlines so may be able to use for flights

      • Also Singapore and Etihad.

  • +1

    Brilliant deal, thanks OP.

  • What's the minimum income requirement?

    • Should be about $35 000

  • +7

Interesting that they have dropped the credit limit to $2K. Citibank Rewards was used to be with $6K min credit limit. Their Premier is now only $10K - used to be $15K.

  • qantas has more partners than velocity debating between the two

    • +5

Velocity has better reward flight availability, that's the key.

  • Can PayAll be used to rack up that $3k spend?

  • +4

Time to switch to velocity over Qantas

    • 100% agree. Intended to use Qantas points to fly business class to Europe in 2023. Couldn't get decent flights without 2 or more connections, or crazy connection times. Availability is really scarce.

Luckily I also accumulate velocity points. Easily booked Etihad business class to Europe in peak season 2023, and Singapore airlines business class to come home. Will switch focus to velocity to rebuild my balance, at least for the next year or so.

      • Out of curiosity how many VFF points does a return trip to Europe on business class cost?

        • It was 139,000 VFF points per person, each way. So for one person return it would be approx 278k points, plus taxes. Etihad has higher taxes of approx $750 each way. Singapore airlines taxes are less, around $100 each way, but will increase a little in October I believe.

  • Does anyone knows if this card

    https://www1.citibank.com.au/credit-cards/emirates_citi_worl…
    Comes with the payall ?

    • +1

Have this card and yes it does.

  • Immediate rejection, didn't even ask for income verification.

Last held a Citibank about 14 months ago. No indication why, nothing negative on my credit history (depending how you view credit enquiries from churned cards).

    • When did you last apply for a CC before Citi?

      • +1

About 3 months ago (got NAB). But considering it was in the application screen, seems it was before they even did a credit check.

Might be internal (is Citi under NAB these days?), But first rejection I've got in 3 years of churning.

        • Yep 100%. NAB acquired Citi Aus in June this year.

        • That might be why. Did you put in your driver's licence etc?

          • @starburstyellow: Yeah, they can definitely tie me as an "existing customer", will be curious to see at the next CC deal what the result is.

    • There's a suggestion in some other comments that potentially, when Citibank gets a flood of applications they start rejecting them for no reason.

    • same thing happened to me

  • +1

So what stops me from paying myself?? Their t&c? But how would they know where money is going to?

  • This deal is also available via Velocity app.

  • +1

Tried to apply online…they say they are unable to approve application….strange, I dont have any bad credit history, never did. I do have coles rewards card that I payup within a week of using it..may be they dont want to issue me with this card due to that?

    • +1

Wonder if too many applications are being made via the link in the deal which is leading to some sort of a security based rejection from the Citibank/Nab's application processing system. Someone else also said that their application was rejected even when they were completing the application.

  • Hmm strange…well my case may be different.
I tried in the past increasing my coles city rewards card limit and they rejected it…it only has 2500 in it…no good other than grocery shopping. Thinking of ditching it…so looking for bettter rewards cards.

  • +1

Getting "unexpected error" when trying to apply online.

    • Called citi and was told to send documents to their email [email protected] with application number in subject.

      • I can't even get past the initial screen after entering name, email adress and mobile number.
        Typical Citibank experience.

EDIT: just tried again and it looks like the website is working now.

  • Applied last night, approved email sent out about an hour ago.

  • +1

wow approved and using in just 1 day. citibank has really improved… ANZ is still the worst of the bunch

    • Whats your timeline on applying, approved and recieved card?
I applied yesterday and haven't heard anything yet

      • applied yesterday got approved around lunchtime today

        • Applied sunday night and haven't heard back. Hopefully soon

          • @JMosk: Haven't heard anything yet either

            • +1

@blighst: Just called them up to ask about progress (as I have something I want to purchase soon) and they approved it within 10 mins

              • +1

@JMosk: Thanks for the advice to call. I applied Friday afternoon 23/09 and received the email confirming my application had been submitted with application number.

Just called them to follow up and was told I'll get a response in 24-48hrs. About 5min after ending the call I got the email and SMS confirmation of approval.

  • So what happened to me was i got through all the hoops and was at a stage of uploading payslip and employment letter where website gave me 'failed' error. I chatted with citi chat and was told to email documents to [email protected] with reference number in subject.

  • Can I get the card, spend 3K, get the velocity points, then cancel the card before the first year to make this essentially free?

    • +2

      Yes.

    • Just make sure you spend within 90 after approval date. You can cancel immediately as soon as the points landed into your account.

    • +1

according to T&Cs, Citi will ask you for your VFF number 8 weeks after so make sure you receive an email from Citi to provide your VFF number first, get the points then close it.

  • "Customers who have previously received or are entitled to receive the 60,000 Velocity Points will not be eligible to receive another 60,000 Velocity Points."

So does this mean you can only have this bonus offer once in your whole life? There is no one year waiting period?

    • citi doesn't have a strict waiting period but can reject you if you apply too frequently.

      • Wouldn't you be considered a
"Customers who have previously received or are entitled to receive the 60,000 Velocity Points"
if you applied again, even after a year?

        • i think the deals change quite frequently, so next year it might be a different amount of points etc

    • +1

Plus sounds like if you have received bonus VFF points of another amount, you should be fine!

  • got approved today but they don't do digital card via apple/google/samsung pay until your physical card arrives then you activate.

    • Google works???

      • +2

Any card that doesn't have Google pay I just use via Bundll

        • Do you get credit check when apply for Bundll?

          • +1

            @timhn: nah no credit check.
also great for delaying putting spend on credit cards into the next month etc to help with meeting monthly spend requirements.

            • @bohn: Have to wait for the card as well and have a few bills coming up. Would this offer work with Bundll? Just worried that I’m gonna spend heaps on the Bundll card and then Citi says it’s not eligible. Would I be able to pay fines using Bundll and then use the Citi card to pay it off?

              • @RayNZ: all cards work with bundll.
and yes, you can pay anything with bundll and pay it off ;)
                fines, tax, and so on.

                • @bohn: Cheers!

                • @bohn: It seems like Bundll is not offering signups. Do you know of any alternatives?

    • I was able to activate the digital card and add to Apple Pay?

‘Your digital Citi Rewards Card ending xxxx is activated. Start using your card to do online or e-wallet transactions’

Haven’t tried it for a transaction though

    • +2

think they do digital cards for those that have a citi account/login already

    • sorry i was wrong. I could add card to apple pay without receiving physical card. Also payall seemed to be working although I haven't tested.

      • +1

When I try to do a PayAll it doesn't show the card yet at the last step (so you can't schedule the transfer)… probably because it is not activated yet.

        • yea i was able to do payall once i activated the card by adding it to apple wallet.

  • How painful is their application process?

    • general census seems to be ok. I've had an issue at the last stage of application where it website would give error when i tried uploading payslip/employment letter. I submitted them through 'continue your application' channel online and took 2 working days to get approved. As per my comment, you won't be able to use your card until physical card arrives to activate it online.

      • Thanks for the info. That's fine, I'm just after the points

    • Citibank's application process is much better than some of the Big4 - ANZ comes to mind with their long list itemised expenses.

I applied last night and already got the approval message an hour ago.

      • Wow I applied over the weekend and still haven't heard anything…

        • Yes, i was surprised about how quick this time too. Previously, usually took about 2 days at least.

May be give them a call to check what happened with your application? Last time my partner had to call them up after a week of nothing from them. They said one of the payslips was more money than normal - duh, it was overtime week. They asked for another payslip. It got approved within 1hr after sent another payslip.

    • It was probably the easiest CC application I had to deal with, submitted one recent payslip, got a phone call next day to confirm few details and not too long after that got email confirming I was approved.

  • not sure why but I put in two one off payall but found out i put in wrong info so i cancelled and when i tried to submit again with correct info, I am getting 'you've reached your limit'… So i guess i gotta try again next month. My limit is 5k and two payments added up to only 3k so it didn't meet 100% limit and definitely not the 5 transactions per month :(

    • +1

According to citi support: If you cancel payment/s, you have to wait one business day for the requests to process (including cancelled payment) then have to try again.

    • +1

It may be user error, but PayAll rejects the majority of my attempts even though the limits haven't been reached.

      • i tried changing category and bank account but still the same. im gonna wait a few days until long weekend is over then try again.

        • It's pretty annoying (especially being forced to use the app), but I consider it a free bonus anyway.

I tell myself I'm not envious of those who have harvested over a million points since the promo began 🤣

      • ok. my theory proved correct. Your 'cancelled' payment eats into your limit. My limit is $5k btw.

I had two cancelled payments adding up to $3k. I tried making another $3k payment which got declined but when I made two $1k payment, they both went through. This means I've eaten up $3k from my cancelled payments and two $1k payments which adds up to $5k which is 100% of my limit.

So now I have to wait for two cancelled payments to be processed either tomorrow or next business day which will free up $3k from my limit then try again.

  • When and where do you provide your Velocity membership number to get bonus points.

    • +1

Citi send you an email once you hit the spend target, and you provide it then

      • How quickly after meeting the spend target? Is it automatically triggered, or just random (want to know when I can stop spending on the card ;) )

        • UMMM from memory it wasn't long, maybe within a week of meeting the spend target. Once i input my velocity number, it only took about 10 days to get the points too. I think they say it can take up to 6 weeks or something.

  • *** Note ***

The aggregate sum of Citi PayAll payments within the calendar month must not exceed your credit limit or $35,000 (whichever is lesser). For example, if your credit limit is $5,000, your total Citi PayAll payments within a month must not exceed $5,000, regardless of payments made on your account.

Above includes 'cancelled payment'. If you schedule a payment of $10000 and cancel it, it will eat up $10000 from your limit.

  • i applied Tuesday and still waiting for approval..

    • Applied Monday and still waiting.. they did call on Wednesday asking for a few more details but nothing since then.

      • yes they have called me twice now confirming details on my application, still no word on approval yet though

        • Finally got approved today.

  • +1

Applied Monday, received a call Wednesday wanting to confirm that I’d have a response within 24/48 hours. Received the approval email today confirming limit of $30k (allowed them to assign limit).

Most recent app was for Amex Platinum edge 3 months ago, reduced the limit on that down to minimum ($3k) before applying for Citi card.

Wondering how much I can make of the EasyPay feature in the next 12 months or so…

    • How did you reduce the limit with Amex? Call them or there is a form to fill?

      • +1

Did it via the Amex website, option to manage credit limit in my account. Reduced limit was in effect almost immediately.

  • This card doesn’t have priority pass like the Citi Qantas one does, does it?

    • No. Only Premier and above cards.

  • Nice that Citi have the option to add digital card to Wallet - but of course only for Apple phones. By activate digital card, you can also use to pay online since you can have a temporary CVV code for 24hr.

My main phone is Android phone but have a spare old iPhone. Using that to activate the digital card and can make some payments immediately.

    • but of course only for Apple phones

Use this to pay on Google Pay/wallet

      • I know but never keep the card long enough for daily usage to bother signup with Bundll. Some dozens of big purchases & bills would meet the spending requirement.

        • I just have bundll in my google wallet, and whenever I get a card that doesn't accept gpay I just switch the payment method to bundll and pay it off with the new card. Since I am churning regularly I end up using it a bit.
