    It was $109.

$97.99 if you change the seller to Galleria AMZ LLC.

When a seller only has 2 feedback and one is "I did not receive my package" it's probably better not to risk it

    • +1

      Looks suss.

    • +7

Seems like a dodgy seller, hence I did not list them.

  • +10

I'd pay the extra 50c to get it from Amazon. Amazon are brilliant for no questions asked warranty returns etc.

    • For what it's worth, that's the listing the deal is about judging by the price & seller listed in the title.

  • Great SSD crap software.
Crucial Storage Executive fails to work on many motherboards reporting "Firmware Error". Has been reported many times and Crucial refusing to address this problem (check Crucial forums). Workaround is to copy a large eg 100GB file and while copy in progress Crucial Storage Executive temporarily works.

    • +12

What do you need the software for?

      • +6

I didnt even know the software exist, I just plug and play

        • +1

Same. Never really had any issues copying massive Linux ISO from same drive to another same drive. I have 3 Crucial SSD in my computer ( 2x 2TB MX500 and a 1TB MX500). They were bought over time.

      • +1

Change SSD settings, update firmware, enable Over Provisioning, etc

    • free optional software… is anyone surprised that your reports are not at the front of the queue?

  • +3

Getting close to that $100 per terabyte price!

    • What about this? Crucial BX500 2TB 2.5" SSD, CT2000BX500SSD1 https://amzn.asia/d/brWUsWS

Or this? Silicon Power Ace A55 2TB SATA SSD, Up to 560MB/s, 3D NAND with SLC Cache, 2.5 Inch SATA III 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive for Desktop Laptop Computer https://amzn.asia/d/gcdBCzz

      • Do not even go close to the silicon power ones, i have a 1TB and its slow as shit and I tried to RMA and just gave up in the end. Terrible.

      • +6

The BX500 lacks dram cache and has a comparatively low warranty TBW and endurance compared to other drives of similar capacity.

Just get a better drive, the prices are close enough.

        • Awesome thanks!

  • Not quite the best ever but not bad

  • Thanks for this, went to buy and Amazon suggested the bx500 for $92 with another $5 off through the app. Quick google didn't show much performance difference and I'm only using on kids computer anyway so saved the money

    • People jump up and down about the BX range, but the BX 250GB I have in my HTPC has been doing the job well enough.

It'll happily record 4 channels, while also playing a movie.

Just like SMR hard drives, if you match the usage, they are fine.

    • MX is much much better. I strongly suggest cancelling and paying extra. BX are good for some thing, but only when super cheap

      • What's the next step up from the MX if you wanted a bit more performance

        • Someone else might be able to answer for SSD's (it's fast), but the next logical jump would be M.2 drives, which I think many people on here would use as their main hard drive

          • +1

@Froot Loops: So far it looks like the Western Digital WD Blue SN570 is a good next step upgrade compared to the MX500.

Then after the Sn570 the Samsung 970 EVO Plus seems to be the next best upgrade.

I am confident with Samsung SSD's especially their software for ssd management system so this might be my final choice unless I end up going nvme.

  • +1

probably one of the best SSDs in the market

    • +1

One of the best SATA SSDs. NVMEs can be 10x faster for an extra $50

      • +5

…10x faster at file copies only.

For tasks like booting your operating system, and running games, you'll find the performance difference between SATA and NVMe is almost nothing.

    • Agree when it comes to value vs performance. The MX500 is very good. Although more expensive. The Samsung 870 EVO still rates as the best Sata SSD.

      • But the 0E rate are much higher on Samsung's.

  • +1

I think the price of this SSD fluctuates around $109 to $120 nowadays. Beware that there was a guy buying from Amazon getting a BX500 and not a MX500 and it was sold and shipped by Amazon.

    • +1

The great thing about Amazon is within a few clicks, you can have a free return sorted and drop off at your local drop-off point.

Generally this takes me <10min to process and thankfully the newsagency next door to my local Woolies accepts drop-offs.

isn't this one only $90/1TB for the same item?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B078211KBB?smid=A18HMR3ZWFODYW&…

    • Not from Amazon unknown seller

      • but anything goes wrong still covered by Amazon rite?

        • Probably since it's not sold directly by Amazon, they'll put you in touch with seller and they will determine refund or replacement

        • No, because it's not sold or dispatched by Amazon.

i'd rather pay a bit more and get an nvme SSD

  • I'm getting old I need a hierarchy chart now so I know what to get for good 4k gaming and just to basically handle any game nicely.

I know this is a good ssd but wasn't this also a good ssd like 4+ years ago.. There has got to be a new best value to performance ssd now.. When I checked years ago it was the Samsung 840 EVO for the best sweet spot between price and performance now not sure there is a lot of new technologies now

Yeah is this like a 2022 MX500 or still the same one that was in the benchmark articles all over the internet circa 2018 is there no other contender at this price range or even $10-20 more

    • I'm getting old I need a hierarchy chart now so I know what to get for good 4k gaming and just to basically handle any game nicely.

This is absolutely fine for gaming use.

Even the very fastest SSD doesn't really have any effect on game load times, so there's not really any advantage to a faster drive for gaming.

      • True that I think the faster ssds are aimed at rendering and other editing softwares among other things.. That's all I can really think of atm there are probably more specific use case scenarios like running a server or database or some sort of special storage.

Me personally I just want to stream and game.

I tell myself I'll create a game one day meaning I could use it for 3d modelling and etc but that's more of a pipe dream faraway bucket list atm.

  • Saw the price at $100, brought it straight away. it was the last one. Not sure why the price changes so much.

    • +2

Did you check it wasn't sold by A third party seller. It's currently $100 from a 3rd party seller on Amazon AU and still $112 sold directly by Amazon AU.
