8 Gb Ram, 15 inch screen, yet no credible Graphics Card. What is this Laptop trying to be? :(

    • it boggles my mind when i see decently specced laptops with HD graphics

It is IvyBridge, so the video is not as bad as it used to be. That being said there are plenty of uses for high performance computers which don't require a nuclear powered video card. Probably a majority of high performance computers aren't used for games.

Agreed, you don't need to be playing games to appreciate a larger monitor and more RAM.

8 GB of ram seems a little excessive to run a couple of Powerpoint or Excel tasks.

          4 would surely, surely suffice.

        • The more ram the less your system needs to rely on hdd pagefiles

    • an ultrabook.

Its an ultraportable (not an official ultrabook). Fitting a graphics card in this would be physically impossible and insane. The whole point of this laptop is its portability and slimness, and the battery life - you wouldn't really go ruining those with a graphics card.

    • The 128GB SSD alone should have tipped you off: this is not meant to be a gaming machine.

  • yah for the 15" matte 1600x900 lcd!
ps re video card and gaming, the screen logo "perfect for work" pretty much sums it up! you're paying more for 3rd gen cpu, ssd and thin/light package

    • ssd is just a touch small.. I read somewhere there are only 57GB left from OS/Samsung ware installation. But very good price

  • I've always wanted a Samsung Ereader with a 128GB SSD and a 1600x900 screen :D

    • Ereader without e-ink? hmm.. not sure.. :-)

  • I really like the look of the new Series 9's (except for the blue tinge), definitely one of the best ultraportables out there.
    The 13-inch version: http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/samsung/13-inch-ultrabook…

    • They aren't really very blue. I had a look at them last night.

    • The new Asus ZenBook Prime UX31A's will be the best - 1920x1080 IPS screen, smaller physical dimensions, metallic exterior. But they'll cost extra.

  • This was ~$1800 on release, so great deal

  • Bought the 13" one from good guys for $1265. Used my remaining auspost giftcards :)

Seems more expensive than a Macbook Air at same size

    • The Air's come in 13" and 11" don't they, the deal the OP has posted is for the 15"

    • MBA vs NP900X4C

      screen size: 13" vs 15"
      CPU: i5 vs i7
      RAM: 4GB vs 8GB
SSD: 256GB vs 128GB (so MBA is better here)

      price: $1659 vs $1429

configuring the 256gb MBA (unable to do this for the 128GB model):
      add $125 for i7
      add $110 for 8GB RAM

brings the total to be $1,924.00

for a 13" MBA but with bigger SSD.

bought, and as tae mentioned above, SSD only has about 57GB left.

i will be doing a fresh install of win7 soon to remove the bloatware.

otherwise, build wise it is solid, better than the 13" model, lid spring is really strong and it is super quick as should be expected.

  • How does the HD4000 compare to a GT555M, i've been told the HD4000 are quite useable for graphics for medium decal etc, and no i'm not expecting it to play COD etc.. full high res ultra or something stupid.

I need light and plausable for something like d3 or counter strike.
