I'd suggest pairing with the recent inkbird temperature controller deal if you want to make a large amount of sous vide for a family lunch.

    • Only if you want to slow cook your pet fish.

      • Or your housemate's pet fish 😉

    • LOL It was my immediate idea to actually use the Inkbird Sous Vide Culinary Cooker WIFI to heat the aquarium, with 4 control points via the Inkbird Bluetooth Cooking Thermometer & if you fail you can immediately seal the extra freshly cooked fish for later.
I was napping when you beat me for the idea ;)

    Love a good aquarium bargain.

  • It’s aquaholics

It's better to split heaters: ie. 2x 150 Watt
    * redundancy, in case one failed
    * the heat spread more evenly

    use fix temperature heater

      I have 2 x 300

      • Generally need 1-1.5w per Litre. If you have good water flow then you do t have to split the heat across two heaters.

  • I bought this for $22 from petbarn. Down from $70.

    • Now?

  • While we are on aquarium/fish/pond.

I’ve got a small pond I’m looking to introduce fish soon. Any solutions for water testing kits?
Or just the Pond Master test kit?

don't buy these.. go the Aquaone thermo safe everyone has upgraded to these. they're only $42 sometimes even cheaper at $39

Neither can be calibrated like an eheim though so run an Inkbird.

    • Got a link?

my local aquarium does the same price. I even run these on my brine shrimp hatchery.

I almost want to say these are equally as good as eheim as eheim is now made in china not Germany. I know people with 60+ tanks and this is all they use including myself.

I have 2 of these in my marine set up for 7 years ..higher wattage..never missed a beat ..I also have 2 x 300w that I use in my fermentation containers for distilling and making beer..the mash is generally barley or sugar and the heaters are submerged in it 24 x 7 ..good.. reliable heaters

  • Out of curiosity - how big of a tank you guys got to even use 300W? I think my tank is pretty reasonably sized at 150L (120L of water) and I'm using a couple of 100W's at the moment.

    • 550l. Its 6 feet

      • Lol. what do you keep in that?

        • +2

Not much. Some loaches, catfish and natives. Its quite under stocked. I am thinking of adding an oscar fish and just hoping for the best.

          • @rack: Nice.. I'm only on the smaller tropicals mainly. Too tight to buy anything expensive. lol

    Fish are friends not food

  • Does anyone know of any similar heaters, but ones that can go much higher temp (i.e. 60 degrees or high 50s).

Basically want to be able to keep my water hot for my tub for my feet for health reasons (don't need entire bathtub, just feet.) Continually running hot water seems a bit of a waste, but the water cools down too quickly, especially in winter. Looking for a heater to put in if possible, and yet remain safe…
