iPhone 14 Pro Max with USB 2.0 Transfer Speed Worth It?

Is it worth buying the iphone 14 pro max with reviewers reporting usb2.0 speed on the lighting cable?

Are you going to use it as a flash drive?

  • Depends what your use case is. For most people it makes no difference.

I’ve never ever understood this argument. Most iPhone users have never even plugged their iPhone into their computer, why does it matter if the lighting port is 2.0?

I’ve used both android and Apple in the past and to me the lighting port always feels more secure and long lasting than usb c ports.

Furthermore, most iPhone users have other Apple devices and usually some tier of iCloud storage (even the base 5gb is enough for me) so that files don’t have to be transferred out.

If you do run out, there are so many other 3rd party apps/services that completely negate the need for a faster connection port.

And the argument for iPads and MacBooks having usb c ports whilst the iPhone doesn’t is stupid as they have a legitimate need. External storage, external displays etc.

Thank you for coming to my rant ✌️

Nah fair point - the last time I plugged an iPhone to a pc was iPhone 3GS and that was just to jailbreak it lol

      • Hello 000 I'd like to report an illegal

    • Problem might be the fancy pro res video quality. Files are like 6gb per minute. It could potentially take hours for some files.

Having one less cable to bring around is a legit reason.

      • Thoughts on no ports?

        • Really not a fan. My preference is charging via a cable. I've found wireless charging causes the phone to get hot and heat degrades batteries.

No ports limits the ease of moving files in my use case. I use my phone for work to take photos of sites so it is a potential pain. I used to do this wirelessly with google photos when it was unlimited.

Dunno if the magsafe charger does file transfer but it would be annoying to lug that around or maybe get a second one (which could be part of apple's plan).

Ports can be useful for diagnostics too but modern phones are reasonably stable these days.

You lost me at long lasting. I have replaced more of my wife's lighting cable than I have ever replaced my type-c cable. They are so fragile and just do not last.

  • Just wondering how long would it take if you have worth 200gb of videos and hi res 48mp photos by using the lightning cable to transfer to your computer than runs on usb2.0 speed.
Not sure why apple didnt go usb-c, probably in the next iphone 15.

    • There's rumours swirling around they want to go completely portless; probably why they've removed the SIM tray in iPhone 14 Pro I believe (may be U.S. only)

The iPhone, as with all Apple products is a piece of sub-par technology made for laymen's consumers. I personally wouldn't touch such a thing, especially considering the recent news about the MAJOR camera bug in the Pro models. At 2k a pop, it is utterly ridiculous that it could be anything less than mind blowing perfection - and it's fallen well short of that as predicted.

There is an iOS 16 update coming to address the issue.

Hell hath no fury like an Apple-hater with access to an Apple thread.

The Apple Bionic chipset is unrivaled. The M1/M2 chipset is unrivaled. Cope a lil more, mate

It's like thjat scene from mad Men with Don Draper:

      "I Feel Bad For You"
      - Android users speaking about Apple users

"I Don't Think About You At All"
      - Everyone else

        Haha! Well said. Bravo!

"ZOMG! It is a MAJOR issue!" Typical Apple-hater response.

A lot of iPhones were released in the past with some sort of hardware bug haha, these were normally referred to with the nomenclature of “(insert_issue_here)gate”.

It was always entertaining to see what the issue with a new phone would be. Some “gates” I remember are:

      • Screengate/yellowgate (iPhone 3GS - I think)
      • Antennagate (iPhone 4)
      • Scuffgate (iPhone 5)
      • Bendgate (iPhone 6)

Should we call this new issue “cameragate”?

And before anyone calls me some sort of Apple hater, I’ve only ever used iPhones, my last dumb phone was a Sony Ericsson K800i (that was an awesome phone).

  • Wait till next year and see if Apple catch up

  • absolutely.

i made the switch a few years ago and love it. i'm in the ecosystem and everything things runs smoothly through all my platforms, iPhone, iMac, MacBook, iPad, etc… so much better. i buy a new phone every year and just pass my last years phone to my kids.

  • Wifi 6 router and a network share is more convenient and faster. Use the “FE file explorer” app in the mix too.
