  • These 'Mesh' routers…it's ok to use just a single one right?

    • +2

Yep. A single mesh router is basically just a router. But a single mesh router isn't generally the best option. Mesh is good for expanding the network into an area where you're struggling to get signal. But if you're only thinking of getting one point, then a standalone router with multiple antennas is a better option.

  • Can this be used with a 5G modem?

    • +1

Yes, as long as your 5G modem has an ethernet port.

      • Thank you!

  • Wi fi 6 is good.

    Dual band only is lacking.

I prefer the tri band wifi 5 deco M9 plus with backhaul.

    • While the M9 is an excellent unit, MOST people will benefit from this unit due to the MUCH lower latency of WiFi6, almost feels like wired.
Even with say a local media server, streaming 4k the lack of a dedicated band for backhaul won't register for most people. Anyone that needs that bandwidth would use ethernet anyway. These also support wired backhaul, just not a dedicated WiFi band for backhaul.

      • Agreed, but most people don't have wifi 6 devices yet…..

        • This was the case 12months ago, but during Covid sales of electronics went through the roof.
WiFi6 was mainstream for Windows Laptops back in late 2018, so most windows laptops purchased from 2019 onwards likely support WiFi6. Lot of FUD people claiming the standard still isn't ratified or accepted.
Yes, Apple were late to the party in 2020, but they have sold a crap ton of devices since then. Almost all the wireless VR headsets are WiFi6 (eg: Oculus) and it makes a huge difference. Lots of PS5's out there, but yes still a lot of devices like Xbox that don't support WiFi6. So you would need to find a home where not a single resident has refreshed a laptop, mobile in the last 2 years, sure there are plenty but it's not most.

Don't get me wrong, most people don't require WiFi 6, but to opt for a Wi5 device (with lower speeds, less technology, immature beamforming) just for dedicated backhaul that is outmatched my WiFi6 really doesn't make any sense.

Going WiFi5 to save money, that makes sense.

  • This not a deal..infact ggc has this price for months now.

  • Is this NBN ready? Canni plug in the NBN wire directly into the base?

    • You don't plug this directly into the NBN port / box on the wall. There is usually a modem, and out of that you connect to a router (like this deal).

      • Depends on your NBN, if you have FTTP you just plug this straight into the NBN box.

    • All routers are NBN ready!
